(Specific Evidence that Supports your Point) One day, about four months back, Ponyboy, Sodapop and Steve are walking home from the gas station. They see Johnny’s jacket on the ground by an open field. There are blood stains on the jacket. A few feet away, they see Johnny on the ground not moving. Johnny explained to them that when the socs beat him they were wearing rings on their fingers, explaining why his face was cut up so badly. (Elaboration of your point and evidence) This happened to Johnny just because he was a part of a different group than the socs. Maybe none of this would have happened if society didn’t divide greasers and socs. The socs had no reason to beat Johnny so horribly. He was not harmful to them physically or emotionally. (Explain how main point and evidence support thesis statement) This shows that society raised socs thinking greasers are bad and socs are good and raised greasers thinking socs are bad and greasers are good, but were never given a valid reason to think in this
Synapsis: The Outsiders is about two gangs who never get along, the greasers and the socs. In the book The Outsiders, written by S. E. Hinton, the theme is that people, though they may be very different, they still live in the same world and they are really the same. This can be proven with Ponyboy’s quote within the first half of the book, “We aren’t in the same class. Just don’t forget that some of us watch the sunset too” (page 46). The first half of the quote tells that the two people are in very different social classes, in this case, the Socs and the greasers. The two gangs are always in conflict, however, the second half of the quote emphasized that the two groups of people indeed living under the same sun, watch the same sunset, and practically do the same thing.

In S.E. Hinton’s story, The Outsiders, group identity is so important that sometimes people overshadow their own identity. However, Cherry shares with Pony that Socs are rich people, who almost have no emotion. Also, the Socs are demonstrated as people who suffer because they have too much. Overall, I think that throughout the Outsiders, our view of the Socs changes a lot.
They think the Greasers are poor and trashy, because they are middle class kids that live on the East-side of town. They wear jeans and t-shirts and have long greasy hair. The Socs are the rich kids from the West-side of town. They are seen as the good kids who do not get into trouble because they are well-dressed, drive nice cars, and come from more affluent backgrounds.

Like Cherry said “It’s not just the money. Part of it is, but not all. You greasers have a different set of values..(38)” meaning that Socs and greasers were different because of how they were raised. There have been many examples of the importance of good parents, this is
In the novel “The Outsiders” the characters are divided into two separate groups, the socs and the greasers. The socs are rich, always getting drunk, and constantly picking fights with greasers.
