It is brought to the attention of people all around the world that unemployment rates of citizens in the United States as well as the percentage of those who are obese, continue to drastically increase. The CDC reported that at least seventeen percent of children in the US from the age of two to nineteen are obese. In 2010, it was also reported that the rate of obesity has remained steady for five years for men and nearly ten years for women and children. “...about 34.9 percent of US adults, or 78.6 million people, are obese and that obesity-related conditions, such as heart disease, stroke, and type 2 diabetes, are some of the leading causes of preventable death.”(Opposing Viewpoints) As for unemployment, after the financial and economic crisis …show more content…
But America is also suffering from power outages. Due to the waste of electricity and the constant need for electricity in the homes, we need to figure out a way to solve our energy addiction or however you would like to put it. Unfortunately, the rise of obesity and unemployment means that more and more people are sitting at home requiring even more energy. Simply sitting around the house all day doing nothing needs to come to a stop. So now I propose the solution. Unemployed men and women will gather to work what I like to call the handmill. As it is known, windmills provide clean energy and electricity for people all around the world. People will line up to move the “windmill” physically by hand to usefully dispense energy and electricity for the town. For each hour you work, you will receive ten dollars. Considering the wide range of people who are unemployed, you would only be needed to work 3-5 hours a day. Using this method will not only furnish effective and clean energy, but also get people out of the house giving them something else to do, besides sit around all …show more content…
“Within five days of changing to a sedentary lifestyle, your body increases plasma triglycerides, LDL cholesterol, and insulin resistance.” Meaning, you are jeopardizing your chances of weight loss (or put risking weight gain), due to the fact that your blood sugar levels have taken a tremendous leap and your muscles aren’t taking in any fat. Your oxygen consumption will eventually drop after two weeks of this routine lifestyle you have going on. This obviously turns to the point where the stairs will be even harder to climb, and who wants or needs that struggle in life. Worst case scenario, sitting is literally killing you. Good news however, there is an alternative that is not as
The students and faculty of Colorado State University’s College of Business and Engineering have developed a new product called the ‘Starlight Stove’ and are extremely excited for its launch. The Starlight Stove has been produced to make life easier for the less fortunate and also improve their standard of living. Their target market was for poor people in Nepal. Only around 11% of the population uses electricity, while the rest use wood, fire, coal as a source of energy. This leads to major air pollution which causes various diseases in women and often leading to the death of young children.
Each year, there are about 112,000 deaths from obesity that are preventable. In the past few decades, the number of cases of obesity has been on the rise in the United States. It has tripled among children and doubled among adults. In 1990, Connecticut’s obesity rate was at 10.4 percent. Then, in 2000, it was at 16.0 percent and currently it’s at 26.0 percent.
Saletan gives more than enough information on how, when, and what is happening worldwide about obesity. Although he does not give a solution, he still made an eye opening experience while reading this essay. Obesity is now happening worldwide. Yes I said it, worldwide according to Saletan. “Egyptian, Mexican, and South African women are as fat as American”, he claims in the second paragraph.
According to the most recent studies, more than thirty two percent of the adults in America are obese. This is an obscene number when you consider that this equals over eighty million Americans. Add to this, more than two thirds of the adults in the United States are overweight, and on their way to becoming obese. Researchers have recognized that this growing trend in overweight and obese citizens is not specific to any one gender, race, education level, or income level. It is an epidemic that is affecting every type of person in the
Today about one in three children in the United States are obese, and is the number one cause of death in America. Childhood obesity is now more concerning to people than drug abuse and smoking. Obesity not only has disgusting physical effects, it also will have negative changes to a person’s personality. Even though many people are aware of the problems obesity brings, there still has been at least a 50% increase in obese people since 1980. Obesity will cause extreme health problems and possibly death if people don’t change their diets, activity levels, or emotional needs towards food.
During this time, this was known as the Great Recession. The United States eventually had a rougher economy than Canada and other countries. Currently, the unemployments rates have dropped drastically due to an increase in taxpaying workers. Some companies responsible for high job losses are Chrysler, Sprint Nextel, United States postal service, Ford Motors, DuPont, AT@T, Starbucks, Verizon Wireless, Citigroup, and General Motors. Currently, most of these companies are still open and have helped reduce the unemployment rate by rehiring people who were in need of careers after the Recession.
Obesity remains a growing epidemic that affects people who continually overindulge, causing weight gain which affects many countries and communities around the world especially the United States. During the last couple decade obesity has doubled and threatened people 's health because of adverse habits of overeating. Due to the advancement of mobile technology, fewer individuals perform physical labor. Instead, many people work from a computer where they spend long hours sitting at a desk consuming junk food non-physicality activity that leads to obesity. Consequently, some of the expense to the community regarding how obesity occurs causing medical complications of diabetes, heart attacks, and high blood pressure which produce expense on the economy.
Obesity in the United States Obesity has lately been quoted as a major health issue in recent decades. Industrialized countries like America, New Zealand, Australia, Canada and the UK have increased obesity-rates, but the United States are among the highest in the world. Even though health issues in these countries – and especially America – have been a major issue, the rates are still continuing to grow. Statistics shows that one third of the American population is overweight and has led to 120.000 preventable deaths each year. Not only is this issue costing the American society an estimated 117 billion dollars, it is also slowly killing the poor civilized.
A plague is devastating America and has run rampant for several years. Modern health care has been struggling against this plague that strikes across all social, racial, political and geographic boundaries. A plague that the American public is well aware of and one that is still pervasive and life threatening. A plague that strikes everyone, but that starts with our children. This is the plague of obesity and its effect on the American people and the health-care community is frightening.
The issue is childhood obesity, and it is only accelerating as a percentage of children in both America and all western nations of the world. Childhood Obesity is an issue relevant to all who consider themselves part of American society and it has profound adverse effects economically, physically for those afflicted with the issue, and mentally for those who live an obese childhood or within the family unit of a household with at least one obese child. The scope of the issue is massive and the impact of the consequences dire in many accounts. There is hope to reverse course and change the way of American-western living, and it starts with understanding the size and
Obesity has gained a lot of attention in the recent years especially in the 21st century. Right now in America, there is an ongoing epidemic. The cause is not by viruses or bacteria, but by human nature. There is no one way to solve this serious problem. With growing body sizes and serious medical problems associated with obesity, it is a problem that needs to be addressed and changed.
Obesity is a major problem in the United States, and with all the special privileges given to its people, America has become very lazy. With portion sizes rising and physical activity decreasing, it is easy to see how the rates on obesity has risen over the years in America. Obesity is a major problem that needs to be resolved because it affects all people of every gender, age, and race are at risk of being obese. Obesity rates in America have nearly doubled rather tripled within the last twenty years due to the many privileges that the American people have before us. Something must be done to overcome decrease the
Australia’s eastern states possess one of the largest energy systems in the world, with 51,000 kilometres of transmission lines and cables working to meet Australia’s electricity needs (Figure 1) (AEMO 2017). Australians consume over 1 619.75 terawatt hours (tWh) annually with Australian homes accounting for 19.1 tWh and 18.81 megatons of carbon dioxide emissions (Table 1) (Department of Environment and Energy 2014; Department of Industry and Science 2015). Alarmingly, 85.4% of the Australia’s energy production results from processing polluting fossil fuels rather than renewable energy sources (Department of Environment and Energy 2014). Analysing the energy consumption of a Brisbane family of four in a four-bedroom home reveals excessive consumption compared with analogous homes on Australia’s east coast. Changing occupant behaviour and introducing energy saving mechanisms would eliminate the
Workers who lost or about to lose their jobs shouldn 't be left forgotten to avoid the social and psychological adverse effects of unemployment. Structural unemployment cannot be solved by a fiscal or monetary policy. Alternatively, here are some general solutions suggested to recover from it; First with governments investing in education and increasing its level to match with the actual technological progress and adapt to the rapidly changing economic conditions, like it has been done in South Korea and south-east Asia. Furthermore, governments ' involvement is also needed by providing training programs for unskilled unemployed workers, and subsidies to companies that supply training to their employees affected. Housing subsidies could also be beneficial to workers in need to relocate to expensive areas due to structural unemployment.
Such people are usually not considered unemployed since it’s voluntary. Involuntary unemployment refers to people that are capable and willing to do job but are unable to find work. Employment plays a very important role in ensuring economic security. Employment is necessary for poverty reduction and economic growth.
