After the War ended the Union and the Confederate joined together and made one government that would have power over all of the United States of America. This government was different to any previous government. In 1869, John Ellis wrote in his book, The Sights and Sounds of the National Capital, “Poets, preachers, lawyers, doctors, artists, authors, merchants, mechanics and loafers are represented in the various departments. You may know them as […] the first men in the Government.”. Ellis noted how when the new government was being formed, they needed people to work for them, and it was these people who helped to form and shape the new government. It was a new government as it was made up by men who were previously from the Union and from the Confederate. Both sides joined together to form one government that would have power over all the country, instead of two split governments, each with different states. The War was able to accomplish combining, new government, as the Union (who won) wanted the Confederate government to be dismantled and for there to be only one government in the nation. As there was only one government, the Union allowed the Confederate to join them as to have people on both sides making decisions so that all people can be happy about them. The new and different government, formed by different backgrounded-men from the Union and the Confederate, was achieved by the American Civil War, specifically then end of the War and the Union who
The Constitution of the United States, a document setting up America’s government system. When we broke away from the big, bad king of England after the revolutionary war, we strived to create a government unlike the tyranny we had before, a democracy. The Articles of Confederation were created, giving the states more power then the central government. It got the US nowhere, many problems arised, each state which different money systems, different tax laws, and a central government that had no power over the states. Many people knew this government was not working, and most likely would not last long, so a group of individuals (rich white males) came together to discuss a new form of government, around the idea of federalism.
The Civil War revoked the states’ ability to secede from the union, making it harder for the states to become independent. This made the states have to work with the union and make peace. One person who tried to keep everything peaceful was Abraham Lincoln. When Lincoln became president he was against slavery but he did not want to make enemies in the south, so he only abolished slavery in the states that it was not completely established. Because
Two opposing groups formed. The first group was the Federalists. The Federalists favored a strong federal government. The second group was the Antifederalists who were led by Thomas Jefferson.
At the end of the Revolutionary war, the former colonies were united under Articles of Confederation that loosely bound the new states into a nation. Because of disputes between the states, a constitutional convention was called to improve the Articles of Confederation. Instead of amending the Articles of Confederation, the representatives at the convention decided to create an entirely new document, the Constitution of the United States. The Constitution established a form of government that balanced power between three branches of government and provided for self-governing states. The Federalists were a political group who supported the Constitution.
After the Union won the Civil War, the United States went into seven year period, known as Reconstruction. The goal of Reconstruction was to rejoin all the states into the Union and to help rebuild the South. While the goal of Reconstruction was rightful, the final result of the period didn’t do much to put America into a better place than where it was before the Civil War. During Reconstruction, the radical northern abolitionists was pushing to make America a country where everyone was equal, and granting every citizen, regardless of their ancestry. The Northerns tried to make everyone equal members of society and give each and every one of them a voice in their own government.
The Civil War was a war between the divided United States. Although it may have been to “preserve the Union”, the underlying problem of the war - a problem that had been simmering for years - was slavery. Lincoln had been cautious at the beginning of the war to not upset the border states, but near the end he added the emancipation of slaves to the Union’s war goals. Part of the reason that the North won the Civil War was due to the number of resources that they produced, the release of the Emancipation Proclamation, and military leadership.
The Civil War, shows that although the south lost, they were able to surviving without slaves and the economy could still function as a whole. After the civil war major reconstruction was needed. Southern states could not survive with the same social standards, but for now, blacks were free in the south. This also meant that the south would have to rely on other things besides slavery to boosts their economy. “For Blacks, it proved a hollow triumph.

During the Reconstruction Era in 1865, many U.S Americans died during the Civil War fighting against the Confederate States of America. The number of deaths is estimated about 600,000, which left a legacy ruin for the South (Lecture notes). The Civil War might have killed over 600,000 Americans, but it also helped build many new things. The War fused the nation into a more economic and social nation by building more systems such as banks, railroads and most importantly a new society committed to industrialization (Lecture notes). It also changed slaves lives because the war destroyed slavery!
The term denoted as the establishment of this centralized form of federal government is known (in current day) as the “confederacy.” Lastly, the articles would represent the states method of acting together instead of a total form of government acting directly responsible for the people. In time, the Republican and Federalist parties were both able to create a form of government, in which did not rely on the dependability or virtue of the public. Throughout this new federal system, both the states and the national government were left absent from total sovereignty. The visons of American culture and politics were indeed changed
The American Civil War changed Americans and their ideals about freedom in many ways. Northern and Southern United states began to have simmering tensions for the states’ rights versus federal authority, plus westward expansion, and slavery had huge effects on the states. An election which made anti-slavery Republican Abraham Lincoln the president of the United States of America in 1860, caused seven of the southern states to concede from the Union to make The Confederate States Of America soon after four more joined afterwards. It changed Americans in many ways as neighbors fought each other through the 4 gruesome years of the war. Conflict between the sides were like fights between brother and brother instead with many deaths.
The civil war had a very profound effect on America and what it has become today. With the civil war many changes took place such as 13th, 14th, and 15th amendment. Women’s rights were put forth into motion. Along with Reconstruction laws being passes and the push back that these laws caused. During this time the south became even more divided and started to take things into account and create their own laws in regards to racism.
Following the Revolutionary War, America had just gained independance from Great Britain and needed to form a new government. The Articles of Confederation were established as an attempt to create a government that was unlike Britain’s. Unfortunately, the Articles of Confederation had several weaknesses. When in the process of repairing those weaknesses, the Federalists and the Anti-federalists formed. The Articles of Confederation were very weak as well as useless to America and because of this, the Federalists and the Anti-Federalists could not agree on a new type of government.
Edith Wharton’s Pulitzer Price-winning novel The Age of Innocence, published in 1920, is set in 1870s New York. The era, also known as the Gilded Age, was a time of great economic growth, especially in the North and West, while the South still faced repercussions of the Civil War. In this essay, I will mainly focus on the position of women in the society and how the society established its control over them. (Whitin this broad context)??
