What Freedom Means to Me

On November 19, 1863, Abraham Lincoln said, “Four score and seven years ago our fathers brought forth on this continent, a new nation, conceived in Liberty, and dedicated to the proposition that all men are created equal.” This quote was the beginning of the freedom that this nation wanted and now has because of veterans who risk their lives for us everyday. To me, the two most important freedoms are Freedom of Speech and Freedom of Education. These don’t need to be capitalized.

According to the Bill of Rights, Freedom of Speech means the right to communicate one's opinions and ideas without fear of government punishment or restriction. Americans use this freedom for everything we do. Americans can protest their disapprovals of government to make the nation better. Voting also helps Americans show Freedom of Speech, by voting who would be a good president, governor, senator, mayor, and many more people that want to help the United States be a better nation. Freedom of speech also comes in everyday lives with conversations. Saying your own opinion to others might give them ideas for new things. Freedom of Speech is very important because it gives us the chance to state our own opinions. …show more content…

Freedom of Education is the right for parents to have their child, girl or boy, to be educated without being restrained by the Nation state. In some countries, females are not allowed to be educated. In Pakistan, Malala Yousafzai was shot in the head by a Taliban man because she was fighting for the right to be educated. She survived this incident and has won the Nobel Peace Prize because of her story. This story reminds me not to take education for granted, but to be grateful for our nation for giving us females this
