During the discussion with France to acquire the Louisiana Territory the United States knew very little about the territory. They barely knew the boundary and it eventually took the Adams-Onis Treaty and the Convention of 1818, to really now the actually boundary of the Louisiana Purchase. First, Spain and the United States argued over if Florida was actually part of the Louisiana Purchase and as it was said before it took the Adams-Onis Treaty a few years later to establish the southernmost point of the Louisiana Purchase and another problem with Great Britain arose and it was about if the Oregon County was considered part of the Louisiana Purchase as it was also said before it took the Convention of 1818, to solve the issue and finally both parties agreed upon the 49th parallel to be the northern most boundary. Even before all the problems with Great Britain and Spain arose about where the boundary should be set, Thomas Jefferson sent Lewis and Clark to explore and claim their newly acquired land. They obviously had some help along the way with their travel guide Sacagawea. Without her the expedition probably would’ve have failed. General Ulysses S. Grant had a great impact on the United States both in his time as a war general and in his time as president. His role in the Civil War was instrumental to the Union victory and the strategies he employed saved many union troops and ended the war quickly. He had many wins, but also many losses and setbacks that were devastating. He learned and adapted through those setbacks and won the war and the American public. The United States would have had a much harder time winning the war and with recovery efforts afterward were it not for General Grant.

Thomas Jefferson during his time in office faced many challenges with the new country. One major challenge and one of the biggest accomplishments during his presidency was the Louisiana Purchase. This turned out to be a huge issue for Jefferson because of the ordeals and the way he wanted to run the government. This was a major conflict in interest for Jefferson because he was a strict constitutionalist and followed it word for word. In the end what he did was completely overstep his powers as president doing what he feared would happen by purchasing the Louisiana territory without any approval from congress for 15 million dollars.
