In the story “The Crucible” by Arthur Miller. In this story one of the main characters Abigail Williams is shown as an evil girl who dances for the devil and does witchcraft. This all takes place in the woods the person to witness this is Reverend Parris he then tells the judge and the girls are then put on trial and ask them to confess.they then blame a slave that goes by the name of Tituba Abigail and all of the other girls in the woods also blame her for making them go and do witchcraft. All of these girls are lying especially Abigail these girls being to blame others instead of confessing so that they will not be hung for witchcraft. They then start little by little tell the court who is working for the devil which nobody has talked or seen the devil.
At this point I say that Abigail deserves to get blamed for everything going on in salem because she is the one who agreed to do witchcraft in the woods. This also has an effect on the little girls because she is the oldest one.Abigail also makes John Proctor commit adultery by cheating on his sick at home wife with Abigail Williams. John Proctor see’s his mistakes and tells Abigail that he wants nothing to do with her and is not in love with her but Abigail fails to believe that and provokes him by following him around trying to kiss him and the only reason she went to the woods to do witchcraft was because she loves John Proctor and

Even if any of the girls wanted to confess to the court and tell the court they danced in the woods on purpose they are scared of Abigail because she threatens to hurt them. This convinces all of the girls to lie for Abigail and destroy Salem by telling the court they are spiritually being attacked by these people because they work with the
In the play The Crucible theres is witchcraft going on in salem but the people don't want other towns to know about it. Also in the play mostly everyone is a christian and attends church on sunday. Does Abigail deserve to be at fault for everything that happened. I think she does because if it wasn't for her none of this would have happened. Also Abigail and Tituba are the ones to blame because they are the ones that make the other girls go dance in the woods.
Some people think that Abigail is not guilty of witchcraft but i do think she is guilty of witchcraft because she lies alot to a bunch of people. Usually some think that you are innocent until proven guilty but you can tell that she is but all the lies she tells. There is no doubt that Abigail is guilty because she lied about seeing the witches because she did not want to get in trouble by Mr. John Proctor. She danced with the witches in the woods and she was the lier of the whole entire town
Abigail is an obsessive girl who can't get over a man that is married. I do however put blame on John proctor because he did cheat on his wife with her, but he made it completely clear that it was over and he was done with her. Abigail is to blame for all deaths because it all started with her first actions in the woods. She got caught by reverend Paris and didn't want to be in trouble so she accused others for witchcraft to save her own life.
The Crucible’s Sins Puritans were very religious during the year 1692. A small town in Massachusetts called Salem was popular for their witch trials. The only way to determine if a person was a witch is if they committed the some of the seven sins: pride, envy, gluttony, lust, anger, greed, and sloth. Envy, gluttony, and greed were desires for other people’s things. Thomas Putnam was a character that always wanted people’s land.
Parris does not actually accuse the girls of witchcraft, but he interrogates them with a strong suspicion that they might be involved in such behavior. He cares so much about finding out what they did in the woods because his reputation is on the line. If his daughter and niece were practicing witchcraft, he’ll lose his job as minister. When he questions Abigail, he demands the truth because “[his] ministry’s at stake” and she “compromises [his] very character”(11). As much as he doesn’t want the rumors to be true of his daughter, he withholds judgement and doesn’t actually accuse anyone.
This is what ultimately gets the girls to stand behind her as the trials progress, and the lies continue to pile on top of each other. Abigail is the ultimate example of chaos weighing on the people of Salem. The madness of the villagers turning on each other drives a wedge between relationships that had previously been strong. Abigail and John Proctor have committed the act of adultery, besides the fact that Proctor is married with children, and continue to lie about it.
Abigail, in my eyes, is the most upsetting character to read or watch in The Crucible. Abby is extremely jealous of Elizabeth Proctor. She is so jealous that she decided to make a potion to make Elizabeth die, so she can be with John Proctor. She also is accusing innocent women of witchcraft, just because she isn’t fond of them or wants to get revenge on them.
In a small village called Salem, witchcraft and sorcery exist, however everyone is pointing fingers but not a single soul knows who is actually to blame for this nonsense. During this time period of hysteria, there are multiple scenes that are very questionable due to one person and one person only. Abigail is the one most responsible for the hysteria and witchcraft in Salem. She threatens the group of girls that accompanied her in the woods while they all danced. She has also lied about many things on multiple occasions in which causes an extreme amount of suspicion.
In the play, The Crucible by Arthur Miller, Abigail and her friends participate in activities that, in their society, are associated with devil worship and aren’t looked upon favorably, such as singing, dancing and being naked. In an attempt to avoid punishment, the girls cruelly tell the townspeople that other residents of the town, people that the girls didn’t particularly like, were possessed and forced the girls to dance for the devil. After his wife is accused, John Proctor is faced with the decision to tell the truth in order to free his wife from persecution or keep quiet for Abigail who he had an affair with. The author of this play, Arthur Miller, displays cruelty through Abigail’s accusations of innocent people During the Salem Witch
Society as a whole seeks to satisfy themselves. This may be at the expense of their peers or individuals they are associated with. Arthur Miller brilliantly displays this dark side of humanity’s side in his play The Crucible. This play is based on the Salem witch trials in the early 1690s. During the Salem witch trials over two hundred people were accused of witchcraft and twenty were executed.
By examining the characters of the play, I believe that the three major characters who should be blamed the most for the witch trials are Abigail Williams,
(I.465-472). Seeing Abigail cry, it suggests that Abigail’s affair with John Proctor has influenced her behavior in jealousy and lust as she strives for nothing more than her love for John Proctor. By only being heartbroken, Abigail is not to be fully blamed for the hysteria within the town as her actions are only based on desperate attempts to win John Proctor over, and no intentional harm whatsoever. However, on the other hand, Abigail cannot be excused with outside forces making her the way she is due to the fact that she has clearly had a choice in most of her decisions and actions throughout the witchcraft crisis. When Mary Warren, another girl involved in the forest incident, enters the court, she explains to Danforth, the judge, that the girls are lying and are only pretending to see spirits.
She is the most to blame for the actions made and the deaths that took place in Salem. The affair John and Abigail had caused her to fall hard for him. She has it set in her mind that she will go to unbelievable measures to try and get Elizabeth Proctor out of the picture so she can be with John. Abigail is found dancing in the woods with the other girls at night.
The Salem society required its people to act accordingly to the Bible and its religious rules. Abigail couldn’t express her sexual feelings because women weren’t supposed to feel that way according to their beliefs. However, sex was supposed to only be a biblical need, so Abigail felt out of place. Abigail’s actions were an effort to express herself freely.
Salem in The Crucible from Arthur Miller is the home to chaos and murder due to witchery that is still unclear as to whether it happened or not. These events caused major changes in the characters from start to finish, at the same time a change in society. Furthermore, calling what happened in Salem a tragedy is an understatement when Salem is clearly in a state of anarchy. Similarly, authority is discontinued and Salem enters a “she said he said” state of mind which only further confuses Salem while also hiding the true slaughterer of innocent Puritan people right in front of their faces. Furthermore, this rising anarchy inhibits the people of logical thinking and hides major perpetrators right in front of them.
