Being responsible is being the leading cause of something and being able to be blamed or credited for it. A responsible person will have a higher chance of success because they aren’t weighed down by guilt. In William Shakespeare’s drama The Tragedy of Macbeth, three witches tell Macbeth he will be King of Scotland, which prompts him to kill King Duncan and commit other heinous crimes. Some readers believe Macbeth is at fault while others argue Macbeth completely is a victim. Macbeth is responsible because he commits the murders and pays others to do so. Macbeth is responsible for his action because Macbeth chooses to believe the witches and the prophecies. For example, Macbeth says “If chance will have me king, why chance may crown me without my stir” (1. 3. 143-144). Macbeth thinks fate wants to give him the role of king without him having to do anything. Macbeth believes the witches because fate made him a …show more content…
For example, Macbeth demands “ I conjure you by that which you profess howe’er you come to know it- answer me” (4.1. 50-51). Macbeth is commanding the witches to answer his questions with their power, no matter how they get to know the answers. Macbeth has trust in the witches and is desperate of knowing what is to come, him being desperate and having trust in the witches ruins him as king. Furthermore, Macbeth commands “I will be satisfied. Deny me this, and an eternal curse fall on you! Let me know.” (4.1. 104-105). Macbeth is demanding to be satisfied and is threatening to curse them if they deny him answers an eternal curse will be cast on them. Macbeth has been so far unaware of the witches poisoning his mind with prophecies and making him greedy. Macbeth’s ambitiousness and also recklessness with knowing his fate corrupted him as a king. Overall, Macbeth is at fault for his own actions after demanding to know more from the evil
Although he was falsely led by the witches, Macbeth was not cautious enough to protect himself. The witches made him believe that he was safe from all, which he was not. Macbeth did not recognize the ambiguity of the prophecies, which led to his demise. The dubious prophecies paired with Macbeth’s lack of caution and his false sense of security resulted in his own
At first, Macbeth settled on not doing anything about this and was going to simply let events come about on their own, but after being convinced by Lady Macbeth that they needed to do something to ensure their rise to the throne Macbeth began to spiral down a treacherous path. He is to blame for the death of King Duncan, and later the deaths of Banquo and Macduff's wife and son. All of this was due to the fact that the witches had told Macbeth and Banquo their prophecies
Who Was Responsible For Macbeth’s Downfall? In "Macbeth," there are a few characters who share responsibility for the tragedy that happens. Though, Macbeth himself takes the most responsibility for his actions, as his own actions lead to his own downfall. “I have no spur to prick the sides of my intent, but only vaulting ambition, which o'erleaps itself and falls on th' other.”
If Macbeth had never encountered the witches and be told he would become king, he would have just continued being Thane of Glamis. The witches are the one to blame, as they were the ones who told Macbeth he would become
Once he starts his reign after killing Macbeth, he becomes determined to keep that throne. The fear of anyone overtaking his power gives him the ambition to kill anyone who comes or has the potential to come into his path. For example, Banquo is Macbeth’s best friend, but he still has Banquo and attempts to have his son killed because he is so scared of losing his power. In addition, the witches are the root of the ambition. If the witches wouldn’t have told Macbeth that his fate was to be king, he most likely never would have killed so many people out of ambition for power.
So although Macbeth was killed by rebels, Lady Macbeth has ultimate responsibility for his death. Lady Macbeth is responsible for killing her husband because she pressured him into the killing of others, which ended up getting him killed. As soon as Lady Macbeth found out she was becoming wife to the Thane of Cawdor, all she wanted was more power. Lady Macbeth applied pressure on Macbeth In Act 1 Scene 7 Lines 38-41 by saying, “. .
From honored soldier to murderous tyrant, Macbeth killed his way into power. He was informed of his “destiny” and stopped at nothing to achieve it. He had multiple chances to rethink his actions. He didn 't however, he kept on his march to power leaving only himself to blame. Macbeth is the only one to blame for his actions and ultimately, his death.
Often times, people go through rises and downfalls in their lives that they themselves are responsible for. In Shakespeare’s play Macbeth, both main characters, Lady Macbeth and Macbeth, himself, are responsible for the downfall of Macbeth. Lady Macbeth is responsible for the tragedy because she convinces and manipulates Macbeth into doing the deed. However, Shakespeare accomplishes in showing that Macbeth is more responsible for his own downfall than Lady Macbeth because he listens to the witches and follows his ambition rather than his conscience. To begin, Lady Macbeth is responsible for the tragedy because she convinces and manipulates Macbeth into doing the deed by insulting him when he changes his mind.
(4.1.48-49) Which is disrespectful, and the witches are doing Macbeth a favor by telling him what he should look out for to stay alive, and keep his rule. Macbeth demands the witches to tell him anything he wants to know and when they do not respond he screams, “Howe'er you come to know it—answer me” (4.1.51) Macbeth’s communication is ill-mannered, he calls the witches crude names, and demands them to tell him his predictions. He is very overconfident and blind to the way he acts.
Macbeth is More Responsible In Shakespeare’s play “Macbeth” Macbeth is seen to be as the one responsible for King Duncan’s murder, as Macbeth’s hands were the ones that actually killed King Duncan. However, while Macbeth may be thought of as ultimately responsible for his actions, but there are other influences that actually show on a closer inspection of the text, the three main influences to his decision are Lady Macbeth, himself, and the witches. This is (in my opinion) convincing evidence that Macbeth is completely responsible for the murder of King Duncan.
Macbeth is firstly at fault due to his own hubris. From the start of the play we hear praise for Macbeth from the captain when he addresses Duncan, “For brave Macbeth—well he deserves that name—Disdaining fortune, with his brandished steel,Which smoked with bloody execution,Like valor’s minion carved out his passage” (1.2.16-19), this sort of praise was likely commonplace after the battle, and likely was heard by macbeth himself, and being the proud man he was may have led him to feel deserving of greater power and authority. Another way his hubris is to blame is for being convinced by his wife's scorning oh his manhood should he not kill duncan “When you durst do it, then you were a man; And to be more than what
Macbeth is responsible for his destruction because in life we make our own decisions however he was heavily influenced by the three witches and Lady Macbeth. The witches foretell Macbeth becoming king and Lady Macbeth persuades him to kill the king, which backfires on her. Macbeth and Lady Macbeth can be compared to Ahab and Jezebel in the Bible in that they both got selfish and went after things that would catch up with them and cost them their lives. Macbeth is ultimately responsible for the decisions he made but he was first influenced by the three witches visiting him telling him he would be king.
The witches did give his apparition but they didn 't tell him to kill the King and while murder passed Macbeth’s mind he never truly had the guts to go kill the King. On the other hand, Lady Macbeth had this whole plan and the confidence to execute it, she was the only one from everybody else that was actually willing to commit a crime for the throne. Her confidence and her ambitious personality convinces Macbeth and made him kill the King but even after he killed the kill he never really sure if he wanted to go this way and receive the power with doing a dastardly deed. Later the continuous support leads him to become heartless and made him oblivious to his downfall. Lady Macbeth’s techniques to convincing Macbeth and her greed and her ambitious personality lead Macbeth 's undoing and caused him to suffer through agony.
Some might say that it was caused by Lady Macbeth, fate, or Macbeth’s tragic flaws. They might say its Lady Macbeth’s fault because she pushed him to kill Duncan which caused him to become a tyrant. However, they are wrong Macbeth had his own choice to kill Duncan. Macbeth isn’t controlled by Lady Macbeth, he has his own thoughts and actions. If anything, he killed Duncan because he thought of what the prophecy where he would be king that the witches told him.
Macbeth is responsible for the bloodshed in the play because he murders Duncan from craving power. Similarly, he kills his friend Banquo’s because being king was his highest priory. He also has no self control to say no when Lady Macbeth asks him to do things. These three reasons show Macbeth is responsible for the bloodshed. Being king was his highest priory and he has no self control.
