Participation Trophies Should be Prohibited
There are many kids that are playing sports , but winning or losing, should they get trophies all the time just for participating? A debate has been raging between whether kids should get participation trophies or not. I think that kids shouldn't get participation trophies just for participating in a sport they may or may not like.
Kids shouldn’t get participation trophies of a number of reasons. If kids aren’t getting trophies then not getting one could encourage those kids to work harder. The kids need to understand trying their best doesn’t always mean that you need a trophy. If you lose and get a trophy you’re not going to get any better because then you will think that losing is okay. Another reason why they shouldn’t get participation trophies is because it could give younger children the wrong impression. It could cause the kids to think that they don’t have to work any harder and that they will just get a trophy fot every good or bad thing they do. The last reason why kids shouldn’t get participartion trophies is becuause all you athletes need to know how the real world

According to () “they all showed up, they all played hard. Besides learning soccer, it was a great socializing experience for them.” I do not agree with this statement because I think kids should have to earn a trophy. Another reason why the opposing side thinks younger kids should get participation trophies is because it could give the kids more encouragement. I agree but the kids need to learn from every good or bad thing they do to earn a real trophy. Regardless of that, I don’t think kids should get trophies just for participating. A sport should be fun but kids don’t need a trophy for everything you do in a game. If the kids don’t get trophies, it could encourage them to work even harder to get more than just a participation
In paragraph 4 Mr. Abate prompted, “Watching a peer receive a trophy and not receiving one yourself can be degrading”, no kid wants to see somebody be awarded a trophy but not get rewarded themselves. If a child loses interest because they never receive a trophy they might stop playing the game or stop participating in the team building activities. Parker Abate also suggested that the trophies should be given because of the time, dedication, and effort they put in to being on the team and playing on the team, “These kids dedicate time, effort and enthusiasm, and they deserve to have something tangible to make them feel that their participation was worthwhile”, it would seem unfair to have the kids give so much for
A better way to acknowledge participation other than a trophy is a certificate or a ribbon .I think when a child gains a trophy they have a better sense of accomplishment and appreciation for their hard and dedication.
There are many reasons for why kids receiving a participation trophy is a bad thing. If you try hard in math, but you fail a test would your teacher just give you an A because you tried your best? The answer to that is no, you will then have to work to improve your grade. So why give them a trophy for trying when it’s not going to do anything for them.
Many people believe they should get participation trophies, but many people believe they should not. I think kids should get participation trophies at young ages only. Participation Trophies should be given out to younger kids for many reasons. Little kids should get participation trophies because it helps boost their self-esteem. It would help kids be kind and caring to other people and kids.
If some kids receive a trophy for winning and the others don't, then that makes kids try even harder to win the trophy next time. Knowing that someone is better than you makes you want to work harder and achieve a higher level, and if it does not make you work harder, then maybe you are playing the wrong sport. When your child wins a trophy, they will find it as a reason to not practice because they believe they are at a high enough level. If your child did not receive a trophy, they would most likely get sad, but if they truly want to win, then they will want to continue practicing and get better so that they receive a trophy. Parents that disagree with participation trophies want their children to play because they want to, not because they will get a trophy.
There are many reasons why we should not give out participation trophies. Trophies are not just a thing you get for doing nothing, they should have some sort of meaning. If we give trophies to everyone this is not letting the kid lose. The kids will not know how it feels to lose when they get older and the real world will be harder for them. According to men's journal participation trophies have negative impact on kids and can cause the kids to think they can get a trophy for anything.
Coaches believe that giving out trophies to youth athletes will not cause long term damage to them, although extrinsic motivation on its own can be harmful to youth athletes and won't help them at all. Youth athletes shouldn’t be getting awarded for just showing up and participating in activities. Participation trophies are becoming more commonplace today, particularly throughout youth athletes. According to "The Great Trophy Debate" by John O'Sullivan, If kids get participation trophies every time they just show up they are going to lose all meaning. Trophies are supposed to have meanings to them like, they are the most improved in class or they have ran a mile in a short amount of time.
Participation trophies aren’t a good idea for many reasons. I don’t agree with handing out participation trophies for the following reasons… There are many reasons why participation trophies are good or bad. As kids get older, they would need to know that they need to earn their rewards. Kids need to learn that hey don’t get a reward for everything they do for just doing it. Getting a
There is a variety of reasons why participation trophies are a bad idea to kids sports. My first reason to not give them out is because the pride of winning and getting a trophy should be earned. No matter what sport or how old you are, you should be taught hard work. To get a trophy, you should work hard all season to win the
You want to raise your kids right, right? Like letting them win something for what so claim that they don’t deserve. Like giving them a participation trophy for not working as hard as they could or just sitting on the field watching the others players play the actual game. The two sides to this debate are for participation trophies because they give them positive influence and against participation trophies because it lowers the child's self-esteem. I am against participation trophies here are my reasons.
There is a lot of controversy on whether or not participation trophies send a powerful or dangerous message. The truth is they send a dangerous message. In the article “Participation Trophies Send a Dangerous Message” by Betty Berden, the argument highlights how participation trophies can send the wrong message to young athletes. Young athletes should not get a reward for doing the bare minimum.
They also promote lazy behavior and thinking simply showing up you deserve something. From about age five and on people generally start to get more competitive, giving out prizes for nothing can dull this and slow them down in life. Stated directly from the text above trophies that are given out for participation are meaningless. a prize is ment to be
While it is true that becoming a champion could be pressurizing to a younger child, wanting to be the best around at something is something that carries on even outside of sports, into life. We should be expecting kids to want to compete to win, not just to be participating. To be the winner of a sport will give you the mental mindset to be the best at other things later in life, such as being the best at their job, or being the best in school. One way that participation trophies could actually work is if each award was given to the child player with a purpose. The coach stating each players strength on the team as they hand them the award could give a powerful message to the children, showing them that they have control over their success.
However, coaches believe participation trophies could be worth a few bucks to bring a smile to kids' faces. No, I do not think all athletes should get a trophy just for showing up. Participation trophies give kids the wrong idea that everything in life is just given to you. If kids want a trophy they should have to work hard and earn one. While I know some kids aren't as skilled as others, it does not mean they are unable to put in an effort to earn an award.
Participation Trophies: The Damage That Is Nearly Impossible to Cure Among Today’s Youth The common ending to a game or event for children, sometimes even adults, is the distribution of a trophy or ribbon to all those who participated. Participation trophies affect an adolescent’s motivation. If a trophy is awarded to those that win and those that lose, then there is no real difference between the winners and losers.
