In the Story “Flowers for Algernon” by Daniel Keyes A thirty year old man named Charlie Gordon is faced with a decision to get an experiment to make him three times smarter. I think that he should not have the test done on him because there could be some risks to it and have a negative impact on him. Therefore I think that Charlie should not have the test done on him. If Charlie Gordon did not have the test done on him then he would not know people were making fun of him. If he was not smart then he would not have the heartache of people hurting his feelings. All of the people he thought were his friends were just people at his job making fun of him. Charlie’s new intelligence confused the workers and made the workers feel really dumb about themselves. They were also frightened of Charlie and everyone at the factory signed a petition to have charlie be fired. Charlie was so hurt from what everyone had said and done to him. Therefore if Charlie did not have the surgery than he would not of lost his job at the factory. Another reason why it was a bad idea for Charlie to have the surgery was because if he did not have the surgery than he would not be so connected to Algernon and made him so sad about Algernon dying. Charlie would always beat Algernon and then Charlie would feel bad so he would talk to him and he became emotionally attached to Algernon. When Algernon started losing it’s smartness and stopped eating food everyone was worried about what that would mean for charlie. When Algernon died charlie was really sad. Therefore if Charlie did not have the surgery he would not be so emotionally attached to
