Dave Thomas Dave Thomas is the founder of Wendy’s fast food chain. The most popular Hamburger restaurant in the entire world. He was born Rex David Thomas on July 2, 1932, in Atlantic City, New Jersey. Dave moved quite a lot as a child and when he was 15, he dropped out of high school to work full-time in the restaurant. Thomas, who considered ending his schooling the greatest mistake of his life, did not graduate from high school until 1993, when he obtained a GED. Additionally, he became an education advocate and founded the Dave Thomas Education Center in Florida which offers GED classes to young adults. Dave Thomas often said, “Take care of your business, and your business will take care of you.” In addition, he was awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom in 2003. He held many, many, jobs in the food industry, starting out as a busboy and working his way up to the top of the chain. When Thomas was still a preteen he and his family moved down to Fort Maine, Indiana. Bush invited him to speak about adoption at a conference. Two years later, he started it because he wanted to help every child in foster care find a permanent and loving home.
