In 1846, slavery was a very big thing in America. But if a colored man asked if he could be free, would you say no? Well in Dred Scott’s case, that became a reality. That’s why The Dred Scott Decision was significant to American History and it led to the Civil War. The Dred Scott Decision was significant to America because it showed that Colored people were just things you own and it led to the Civil War because it caused many disagreements between the country and laws that angered people. The Dred Scott was important to American history. Dred Scott was a slave originally taken from Alabama and was moved to Missouri where he was bought by slave owner, John Emerson. The Dred Scott decision showed Americans that colored people are just things you own and not people at all. This helps slavery, which at the time was a very big thing in the south. Slave owners now can own and keep their slaves because now they can’t run away no matter what. Even if people are “free” and go to a “slave free” state, they can still be arrested and sent back to their slave owners. This was a huge win for slave owners and a loss for the north as they wanted more people for jobs. It also was significant to American History because it shows that some of the biggest people in a America at the time wanted people of color to be enslaved.
