Between 1820 and 1840, a Revolution occurred in American life. In what ways was the "Market Revolution" more or less important than the American Revolution?
The Market Revolution was a huge factor to what our world is like today. The way in which we work, how much money we get paid, and how long we work for all stem from the Market Revolution. We also can look at how the American Revolution affected our world today. How our entire system of government would be different, the simple ways we live our lives and the rules we are expected to uphold as American citizens. When asked the question of whether or not I believe the Market Revolution was more or less important than the American

When we got free labor we also got slavery, with wealth came inequality, and with endless promise came untold perils. Slavery was probably the biggest problem that came with the increase of production, because with the ability to process stuff like cotton very fast, we had more time that could be spent in the fields collecting the cotton to be processed and sold. So every man that owned a plot of land wanted to take part in the gold mine of cotton, thus making a need for more manual labor so slaves who you only had to put down an initial payment for were the prime candidates to perform this exhausting task. With the wealth that was made by these land owners came great wealth, but it always has a chain reaction of there being a minority people who are suffering in poverty creating an inequality among men, those who owned land and slaves, and those who did not. As with every action we perform there are the untold ripple effects that no one can predict and this was no different for the Market …show more content…
The market Revolution enabled men to be able to become part of a higher class, they had more opportunities to make more money, but it also brought the aspect that there would be people who would end up at the bottom of the class system. The market Revolution also brought about the middle class in which men and women who worked day to day jobs could earn a wage that would help them support their families. Instead of growing and making everything for themselves, families began spending their earnings on products produced by other working men and women. Work moved from quality of products to quantity produced. There were no longer people who would spend hours upon hours making a quilt or sewing clothes but the fast production of far less quality. In this way the Market Revolution had a major effect on what small businesses are fighting against to remain afloat. They must constantly change and adjust what they are selling and for how much because the big corporate companies can make what they are making in a matter of minutes in most cases. The Market Revolution took away the aspect of having a family heirloom by the decrease of specialized high quality products that lasted for eternity. Though it was now cheaper to buy clothes and other various needs around the house, it was less likely to last long enough to make it worth the
The same American System that promoted high tariffs on foreign goods, oversaw internal improvements, and created a national bank, also birthed the Market Revolution. The Market Revolution revolutionized how farmers produced goods in America and the redirection of their purchasing habits which transformed the mindset of how farmers viewed their role in the American economy; thus, making them more compliant to commercial and capitalist ideals. Overall, the Market Revolution in America provoked significant changes in America socially, economically, and politically. There were many social changes associated with the Market Revolution.
1. I believe that the Market Revolution in Northeast improved the lives of Americans. Americans could now get more products by going to the market. People had gotten more for clothes for a cheaper price. Not only that
The market revolution sparked explosive economic growth and new personal wealth. It affected the lives of workers by giving them jobs. It did bring them from skilled labor to cheap labor though. There were far more immigrants in the North than in the South because there were more job opportunities due to there being decreased numbers of enslaved persons. The market revolution sparked social change in many ways.
The pre-Market Revolution was a time of labor-intensive work and strong-knit American culture. While many were fighting for individual rights from Britain, and splitting up due to the Great Awakening, others were working in a professional capacity. Jobs such as fishing, farming, building ships, and other manual occupations were performed by locals while small business owners, skilled workers, and craftsmen thrived in the colonial American economy. However, the nineteenth century was a different story. Known as the “Age of Progress,” improved technology was one of the major hallmarks of the century.
The Market Revolution affected the society of the United States by giving much wealth to the few rich, creating a sizeable middle class, and making the large lower class suffer even
The Market Revolution brought numerous changes in the United States. The creation of factories meant that employees needed less expertise in order to get a job and there were more employment prospects for people. However, because of this new method of working, people's lifestyles are also altered. Many Americans were no longer attending church on a regular basis, and the new developments in technology and economy also caused cultural disruption. As a result, there was a decline in religion.
The American Revolution had many contributions that allowed it to greatly evolve and make such an important part of history. Culturally The Salem witch trials allowed women to be aware of the injustice they were facing which led them to demand equality. Along with the Great Awakening, that introduced many new religions that lead to conflict within the people. Politically the French and Indian war helped George Washington prepare for leading the continental army. In addition the Declaration of Independence created the separation between the loyalist and the patriots.
The Industrial Revolution, lasting from the late 1700s until the early 1900s, was possibly one of the greatest time periods in this world’s history. This time period caused people to think more and dream bigger. From these big dreams rose up inventors, entrepreneurs, and business owners. The Industrial Revolution brought many new inventions and production processes, but along with great new things come great terrible horrors. While some might argue that Industrialization had primarily positive consequences for society because of the new production methods and what they produced, it was actually a negative thing for society.
In that case, the American Revolution was very revolutionary because there were political, social, and economic changes. Wealthy people lost their money, there was a new government, it made citizens question slavery, and certainly more freedom for the Americans. The American Revolution resulted in the establishment of an independent nation; British colonists became American citizens. That was a vast change in U.S history.
The market revolution had a tremendous impact on many regions in the U.S., most notably the South and Northeast. The market revolution is a term used by historians to describe the expansion of the marketplace that occurred between 1815 and 1830, prompted mainly by major transportation improvements and various unique inventions to connect distant communities together for the first time. The South developed and thrived mainly from the cotton gin and the expansion of slavery. The Northeast flourished and bloomed from the factory system, interchangeable parts, transportation improvements, and women in the work force. The market revolution impact on the South and Northeast brought about widespread economic growth yet affected the regions differently, the South shifted from subsistence farming to commercial farming and the Northeast grew in mechanization and industrialization.
John Lauritz Larson the professor of history at Purdue University explores the captivating consequences that result from the market revolution in early America. With a passion for the matter and creative thinking, his research leads him to unanticipated consequences that plunge Americans with the transition to capitalism that relates economic change to the liberty and self-determination of individuals. According to Larson, there are remnants that are still relevant in history today. The mass industrial democracy that is placed in the modern United States bears very little resemblance to the past which was a simple agrarian republic. All because of the market revolution, the transformation resulting in the tangled foundation we know today
Americans took advantage of the new changes in communication, transportation, manufacturing, and technology. They used the advances to produce profitable manufacture goods that could be sold which boosted the economy. The new development of the Market Revolution changed the lives of Americans. Watson states that the Market Revolution “intensify the impact of capitalism on the lives n ordinary Americans” (28). The effects of the Market Revolution led to economic inequalities and a threat to America liberty.
The market revolution, which started in 1815, transformed worker lives, and improved the nation vastly; although it also dropped the economy as well. The traditional market, which was based upon power generated by animals and water, was slow in activities such as transportation. The growing nation underwent peace, which then catalyzed the reform of the organization of the economy. As such, transportation was heavily improved upon, along with manufacturing, banking, and commercial law. However, there were also two panics during the time that occurred that led to many Americans who were anxious and uncertain about working in the country.
The Market Revolution generated a drastic change in the United States economy and altered gender barriers while at the same time accomplishing this in a provocative manner. This economic boom occurred around the first half of the 19th Century. The economic boom was achieved by inventions such as a transcontinental railroad system which resulted in a better transportation system which improved trade and the cotton gin which sped up the rate of removing seeds from cotton fiber. However like what the great Hugo said, “The brutalities of progress are called revolutions. When they are over we realize this: that the human race has been roughly handled, but that it has advanced”.
The American Revolution affected the entire world in a very fundamental way not just in its own time but continues to affect the present time as well. Some of the major fundamental values that have emerged in the modern times as a consequence of the American Revolution were the rule of law and liberty. Apart from these two philosophical ideas, another major idea that emerged was that even colonialism by Britain, the most powerful nation at the time, could be defeated as longs the oppressed people stand together for their rights and resist
