Were the innovations and inventions like the spinning jenny, the power loom and the cotton gin important to the old world's Industrial Revolution? The industrial revolution was the movement of the change of people's way of living as well as their way of making produce during the late 1700s and the early 1800s. According to Robin L. the changes made by the Industrial Revolution had a tremendous impact on the economy and on lives of an average person in Europe (brighthubeducation.com). As of today many of those inventions have been reconstructed and had become very helpful as they would have been back then. The Industrial Revolution would not of have been developed so rapidly if the new ideas wouldn't of have flourished as quickly as they …show more content…
The Spinning Jenny was a tool used by the first factories of the cotton mills . The increase of the amount of yarn made a day was twice as much as a regular spinning wheel would have done this brought more of the factories to produce faster .Even though the power loom was very similar to the spinning jenny only that this machine was steam power machine. This was an innovation since they improved the machine by making it run by water this made more products to be easily made and faster to be produced which brought better economy and more labor for the workers. The cotton gin was an invention made by Eli Whitney in the year 1794. The cotton gin was very helpful to the people that worked in the fields. The machine helped the labor the slaves did to be easier in a way because they would not need to pick out the cotton seeds from the cotton fiber by hands. The machine also brought cotton to be a main crop for many farmers because it was a successful crop that made the south to have an increasingly amount of cotton fields. Technology enabled highly productive yet cheap labor to operate the machines (Pear therealnews.com) .Cotton fields needed a lot of labor for them to be able to bring good profit the plantations needed people to work but to work for low amount of money this is also one way the increase of African slaves resulted to happen it was called “wage
During the Industrial Revolution, many inventions were made like the mill in 1790 when Samuel Slater Brought the textile mill to the U.S. from England. He came by using a false name because England wanted to be the only one with textile mills so the tried to make sure that anyone who had knowledge of the machines could not leave. Samuel Slater found a way to using a false name got to the U.S. and found a capitalist to invest in his idea and the age of the Industrial Revolution began. Other inventors like Eli Whitney made all different types of inventions. Some of his were the Cotton Gin and interchangeable gun parts.
Invented by Eli WHitney in 1793, because of the cotton gin it reduced the amount of time and cost of separating the cotton seeds from white fiber. Due to the cotton gin, cotton farming became much more profitable in the South. Because of the cotton gin, the demand of the cotton grew and increased slavery. There was economic consequences due to the cotton gin and the increase of the cotton
The Invention of the cotton gin greatly affected the growth of the south in the 1800s. It did so in many ways including effecting the souths economy, and causing the south to have a much higher demand for slaves. Eli Whitney’s invention revolutionized the cotton industry and caused it to grow and prosper. Because of this the south became a huge producer in the cotton industry causing the economy to skyrocket. One reason why Eli Whitney’s invention of the cotton gin boosted the souths economy was the fact that it made cotton production much faster.
The cotton gin help the slaves separated the cotton from the seeds. They had factories in the North and plantations in the south. The factories allowed for trading with forgeign countries. . A telegraph is how they communicated back then..
When the Cotton Gin was invented, the South was the main area that benefited from it. The Cotton Gin increased the production of cotton which in turn meant that the South needed more slaves to manage and work the cotton production. The invention of the Cotton Gin led to a boom in the Southern economy and created a one-crop economy for the South. After the Cotton Gin, the South provided about two-thirds of the world's cotton supply. With the increasing slavery, there was a stress put on the relationship of the North and the South and their opposing views of slavery.
My cotton gin was a great invention and helped a lot because it took out the seeds much faster. My invention was successful because with more cotton with no seeds other companies would buy it to improve their
After seeing the struggle of removing the seeds, Eli decided that a machine was crucial to increase the production rate and the amount of exports. With the creation of the gin, the bar quickly rose from 1 pound of cotton to 50 pounds of cotton that could be cleaned per day. This allowed more slaves to work in the fields, rather than cleaning cotton, which resulted in the cost of cotton to decrease dramatically. Both the Northern states and Britain benefited from the growth of cotton because they could buy cotton at a cheaper price, expanding trade between them and the South. Before long, “cotton was the [official] “king” in South Carolina” and throughout the whole South (South Carolina Journey 119).
It helped the production of cotton by picking out the seeds so you didn't have to do it by hand. Doing it by hand would wore you out and hurt your fingers because the seeds almost felt like thorns. Instead of cleaning about one pound of cotton each day it made it so they could pick up to fifty pounds each day. Whitney let other people use his machines and when he did this, people would figure out how it worked and make their own version of the cotton gin and take credit for the idea, which then made Whitney lose a lot and not get credit for his
The industrial revolution completely changed America as we know it. It brought many changes to our nation- some good and some bad. The Industrial Revolution changed how we produce and consume goods. It was so groundbreaking that we still feel the effects today. Prominent inventions of the time are pictured in document 3.
With this new invention, a person could yield eight times as much cotton in one day versus the traditional method. It also made the Southern people more dependent on slavery than ever before. As more cotton could be produced in one day the need for slaves grew higher. No longer could the South due
The cotton gin was invented by Eli Whitney in 1793. Versions of a cotton gin have existed since the first century in which single rollers were used to try to separate the seed from the cotton. Over time, a double roller system was invented. Finally, in 1793, the version invented by Whitney actually used teeth-like projections to remove the seed from the cotton. A belt and pulley system then separated the lint from the seeds.
It enabled productivity to increase significantly, more specifically the cotton gin would generate up to fifty pounds of cleaned cotton daily from one pound daily. An important contribution to produce the cotton gin consisted of the closely time-related period of the removal of the native peoples of the southern lands (Georgia, Alabama, Mississippi, and Northern Louisiana.) When this act occurred, the land that was previously occupied by the Native Indians presented availability for white men with money and dreams such as developing or producing more cotton gins. Other acts and features (negatives and positives) of the cotton gin are; it revolutionized cotton production, was profitable for the non-wealthy to become wealthy, it fostered associated expansion of racial slavery throughout the region, shaped the nation’s economy, social and political development, lower status people were forced into slaving these companies or moving to cities to be employed in other, typically dangerous jobs
These expansive manors required huge quantities of specialists with a specific end goal to work. Subjection helped meet those needs. The utilization of the cotton gin permitted a right around four-overlay increment in the generation of cotton in the United States. The atmosphere of the Southern states was more helpful for developing vast yields of cotton. Numerous ranchers expanded the measure of their fields and set up vast cotton manors.
The seeds, then had to be picked out by hand as well. This process was extremely time consuming. In 1793, a man named Eli Whitney invented the cotton gin. This greatly sped up the process of harvesting the cotton.
The use of the cotton gin had a major impact on slavery by expanding the use and population of slaves. “This machine revolutionized the process of separating cotton from its seed, making it dramatically faster and less expensive to turn picked cotton into usable cotton for textiles” the author said. Harvesting the cotton fields was intense work and the more cotton that was being produced lead to more fields causing more slaves to be needed to work those fields. All the large cotton plantations that the south maintained, by 1850 the slave population increased tremendously. “Southern wealth had become reliant on this one crop and thus was completely dependent on slave-labor.”
