One of the biggest struggles that women has to go through is not getting paid as equally as men. An Equal Pay Act in 1963 had to be made in order to forbid sex based wage discrimination, even though women are still getting 91 cents of every dollar earned by men (10 Challenges That American Women Still Face Today, paragraph. 2). In Russia, many women are paid less than men and their wage and salaries were 70% of men (Snezhkova, (2005), Page 3). In many Third World countries, a woman doing the same work will earn $3.00 to $5.00 a day.” In Third World countries they are not paid enough because they’re looked upon as cheap labor. Also, because one may be foreign they are taken advantage of because they’re not American and doesn’t know any better. Author Emma Lord, writes a problem about this called “Women Who Wear Makeup Are Paid More, According To Bummer Study”, published in May 2016 in the Bustle, and argues that a person’s attractiveness is a factor that affects how much money someone earns, specially on women who wear makeup compared those who don’t. Population Fund, referring to females under the age of 18” (Doki). Many young women are abused and murdered because of the lack of protection (McDonald). How can such an appalling problem take place in our world today, and how can we stop it? Thanks to authors such as Hurston, problems like these can be brought to light, but is it enough?
Women work just as hard as men, if not harder, however they are valued as much less. The women’s pay gap has effected much more then just wages but has impact on employer-sponsored health and retirement benefits, training opportunities, flexible work arrangements, and paid family and sick leave. Pay gaps aren’t just an issue to the average American woman, but to some of the most well-known, respected athletes of this era. Women’s athletics, specifically women’s soccer, do not get paid as much as men for doing the same thing, however they should be paid equally. Every woman should be paid equal wages.

(The Telescope) found that the WNBA loses 10 million dollars a year and the NBA makes 8 billion dollars a year. One major issue to this problem is the inequity of how female athletes are treated.
As the years go on women’s sport continues to grow larger and are growing in popularity and generating more revenue than ever before, despite these female athletes continue to earn significantly less than men. The gender pay gap perpetrates gender inequality, females work just as hard as male athletes and deserve to be compensated fairly for the talent and dedication put in. It may be 2018, but the gender pay gap is still here, why is that? Women have been and still are getting a lower pay than men to do the same job. Gender inequality is a deeply rooted issue that has been prevalent in all corners of the world since the beginning. It is in no way bound to a single country or area, as gender discrimination is everywhere, but in middle eastern countries it is so connected to the culture that this discrimination is seen as normal and even supported. People are being treated as second-class citizens based on nothing but the sex they were born with, and no one is even batting an eye. This is part of why the Middle East houses some of the lowest ranking countries on the Global Gender Gap Index. While some people continue to hold onto discriminatory values and remain uneducated in important topics, it is necessary for governments to make ending gender inequality a priority, especially in these middle eastern countries where radical religious groups like the Taliban force their restricting values on others and male guardianship strips women of the freedom of being in charge of their own lives.
