Age 7 In America Film Age 7 in America is a film narrated by Meryl Steep about detailed lives of 7-year olds from diverse social classes and ethnic backgrounds in the United States. They are fifteen kids in total. Each place of stay for the kid is mentioned and other details to do with the family status, family structure, and their different thoughts on issues such as drugs and crime, education, the opposite gender, on the future, on the world, and so on. Integrated into the film explanation is Bronfenbrenner’s theory as regards child development. This theory will expound how each thing in child and his or her environment influences his or her growth and development. While discussing later on, four classifications of microsystem, mesosystem, exosystem and macrosystem, is to be considered. Julio, on the other hand, lives in highly ethnically diverse Los Angeles as one of the immigrant children devoid of family ties. This immediate environment of family is what Bronfenbrenner calls the microsystem. Luis enjoyed a physical presence and handling of the eleven family members in their home. But for Julio, it was a negative experience when aspect of physical development as she just a mere immigrant without parents around to give her moral support. The family of Luis Rodriguez, like many Mexican Americans in the border regions from the 1950’s to the 1960’s, faced much disparity in the social and economic realm of their new homes and communities. Living in the United States, they believed, would allow for growth and opportunities not possible in Mexico. In their quests to lead a better life, the heads of many households had to work hard and long hours in order for the sustainment of their livelihood and in Luis Rodriguez’s case, both of his parents worked long and hard hours. Rodriguez’s parents wanted better for their family, but their journey to Los Angeles would forever change the trajectory of the life they envisioned for their family and, namely, for Luis Rodriguez. Born in El Paso, Texas, the Rodriguez family moved back and forth between the border and the region of Chihuahua, Mexico.
While reading Enrique’s Journey, written by Sonia Nazario, a lot of themes were brought out throughout the book that served different meaning in Enrique’s story. The theme that stood out to me, was his journey because Enrique traveled all the way from Honduras to find his mom, who stayed in the United States. There are times in the book when he falls victim to his own shortcomings: doing drugs, tantalizing his mother, mismanaging his finances. He is ready to take yet another journey, this time marked by responsibility instead of adolescent rebellion and resentment. However, Enrique's journey is not only physical, but also mental as he grows from a boy to a man.
His quest to reunite with his mom is filled with a multitude of obstacles ; nevertheless through the kindness of strangers and smugglers, Enrique’s dream becomes a reality. Everyone needs someone to help them pick up their broken pieces at least one point in their life.
Isabel, together with her daughter, decided to live with her mother again to avoid the growing conflict between her and Enrique’s family. 3. When Enrique’s mother decided to move to Florida, Enrique started missing his mother again and began to understand her decision of leaving them for the US in search of a better future. 4. Enrique’s Journey is a real life story based on a son and his mother having to be seperated from one another due to the migration of the mother to the United State. Enrique’s mother Lourdes left Enrique in their hometown of Honduras at the age of 5, Enrique was devastated he could not handle the pain of being without his mother. After being separated from each other for 11 years Enrique was confident and gained all the strength inorder for him to reunite with his mother whether he has to make the dangerous odyssey of crossing through the border. Family abandonment leads to unimaginable repercussions. Lourdes reason behind leaving her family was to provide a better future for her children.
Albeit, it is important for people to have first-hand experience witnessing and learning from events, people should be verbally taught and lectured. Esperanza’s dismissed race leaves her in a heavily disconnected neighborhood. Such circumstances result in a lack of interest in education and work. Without much else of anything to do, families are left primarily to themselves. These social boundaries create a sort of isolation limiting interaction between the classes.
Many people are undermined by the drawbacks of belonging to a low socioeconomic status. In The House on Mango Street, Esperanza is raised in a poor, Latino community, causing her to be introduced to poverty at an early age. This introduction of poverty affects Esperanza in many ways, one including that she is unable to find success. Esperanza struggles to achieve success in life because the cycle of poverty restricts her in a position in which she cannot break free from her socioeconomic status.
