7. An external locus of control is when a person blames things that are out of there control. An internal locus of control is when a person believes that they can control the events that go on in their life it makes the outcome come out to what they want it. This information is found on page 421. I believe that it is better to have an internal locus of control. By having an internal locus of control, you can make goals for yourself and actually do something with your life instead of blaming things on your failures. I was disappointed by this and I admit I was jealous of some of the people that were accepted. So, when senior year came around I made sure to be a part of groups or events that helped me build up my leadership. From this I managed to be accepted into the National Honor Society. I was in shocked when I got the letter and I thought that it was a dream. The Fundamental Attribution Error is basically when you see how someone acts without looking at the whole situation. If a classmate acts shy in class, you might think that they are just overall shy. If you don’t see the classmate outside of class you might not see how they act around their friends. An example of this that is used in the book is they talk about Jack and Juliette. Juliette is shy in class and Jack talks over coffee. From this you think that Jack is outgoing and that Juliette is shy. You don’t see how Jack could be shy in class or how Juliette acts at a party. Over the years there have been ethnic prejudiced between white and blacks, gender, and sexual orientation. An example of prejudice that is used many of times over again is when someone sees a Muslim person on an airplane. Some people automatically go straight into thinking that the Muslim person on the plane is a terrorist and are afraid of them. They do this without getting to know the person and you never know that the Muslim could be the nicest person. It is overcome by getting to know someone better, looking at what is in the inside, and doing what is right even if society is against it.
Prejudice is the bias you were born with based on no personal experiences or reason. In life you will encounter many instances where prejudice and injustice exist. The Secret Life of Bees by Sue Monk Kidd had approached many themes throughout the novel, a large one being prejudice. Lily was raised in an area where racial prejudice was commonly practiced however, she tended to be very naive and not see it. It carries on throughout the novel eventually exposing her to her world, along with being a teaching point for her and the reader.
