In 1607 104 men arrived at a place in which they named Jamestown. This was in fact the first English settlement in the New World. After this occurred about 13 years after 102 settlers who aboard the Mayflower in Massachusetts named the place they arrived in Plymouth. When these 2 colonies were formed, the English settlement was formed. However, both of these colonies share some differences and similarities that make them both important currently in our history. The first colony that was settled was Jamestown which offered an area that was suitable for a ship to anchor in and good defense. Plymouth also offered anchorage and a harbor. However,both of their climates differed. Jamestown had warm climate and rich soil, whereas Plymouth had a cold climate and thin soil. These new Englanders turned to shipbuilding, fishing, and trade. In 1619 the first legislative assembly in the New World me at the church in Jamestown and then the American heritage of the government was created. Unlike the colonists in Jamestown The Pilgrims were very cooperative and hardworking. Since New England was out of the control of Virginia’s government, the Pilgrims created their own governing agreement which was called the “Mayflower Compact”. The colonists of Virginia settled in a territory of a strong Indian empire. The English relations with the Powhatan Indians weren't so good from the start. There were a variety of differences in their culture, religion, and philosophies. After the uprise of Indians the colonists gave up attempting to live peacefully with them. Before the Pilgrims arrived an outbreak cleared the majority of the New England Indians. Some survivors assisted the colonists, but the relations ended when the Massachusetts Bay Puritans declared war on the tribe and Plymouth was involved in the
Plymouth was located in the state of Massachusetts, founded by the passengers that were on the Mayflower ship. This land was utilized for religious reasons toward the people how had arrived there. The people who had established themselves there were encouraged to work together with their family to prosper. When working there, having a good relationship with the Indians was very helpful for them. All though they did have positive situations the first ten years were in fact not so great since a lot of their people died.
Jamestown. Jamestown was the first established colony by England, after one of there earlier colony disappeared. The voyage from England to Jamestown was very long and rough the 3 ships carried 144 men and boys who would become the first settlers. The ship crashed and luckily they swam ashore alive, but because of their unawareness Indians attacked them, although they fought them off, there was a big insecurity among them.

The people of Jamestown continue to influence our nation today. New England was a colony that was settled because the people that came from England wanted to find their freedom from their country. The people that came to the United States was to find freedom through religion, which the people from Mother England were not given the freedom to pursue their religious believes. The early Virginia and New England colonies differed politically, socially, and economically due to the situations that the settlers faced. Throughout many of the letters written about some of the experiences of the earlier settlers, one can easily see a major difference in the way of life of the two colonies. Although many of these colonies differed in the way of life, each colony faced some similar things that they each had to overcome. These challenges made a massive difference in the way that each of the colonies started out and directly influenced the future for both colonies. When these challenges are faced, many of the settlers will create the foundations of their political, social, and economic systems.
