What would you do if you ever got accused of killing someone ? What would you pledge , guilty or innocent ? This brings in Serial a podcast narrated by Sarah Koenig, it talks about a boy being accused of killing his girlfriend and she’s making to hear our opinion of hi being convicted is he guilty or not ? Until this day nobody knows . Adnan is an a 18 year old boy who was born in the US but his parents are from the Middle East . He used to attend Woodlawn High School where also the 17 year ex-girlfriend went to . Jay Wilds is a key witness in this case , I’ll explain his roll on this later. This story is very interesting because we really don’t know if he’s guilty or not . The first reason why i believe Adnan is innocent is because …show more content…
This part in the story is when Jay says what he knows about the murder but because of how old Hae’s body was they couldn’t test it for DNA ‘’ no physical evidence linking Adnan to the murder ‘’ . This proves he’s innocent because there’s no evidence . Plus in one of the stories he tells from that day saying Adnan called him from BestBuy he said he used the phone from there, checked by the police and they looked back at the blue prints from there , there was no phone at bestbuy and AT &T said they couldn’t use the phone calls as an example in the jury’s office because where ever they were the call was going to pin in the Leakin Park phone call pole . Where the body was buried. There Adnan is innocent because of the lack of evidence. All though i believe Adnan is innocent it is possible he’s guilty ,because he has a motive and he said he was going to kill her before and there’s people saying he asked her for a ride on January 13, the day she went missing . There’s no evidence he was at track ,where he was supposed to be . Some may say he’s guilty because of that ‘’ he doesn’t take Adnan’s words of threatening to kill Hae ‘’ Jay said he didn’t take him serious . It helps my topic sentence to be proved because it says why he may be guilty . Therefore Adnan is guilty because of the alibis of peoples and not attending
They used a kid’s testimony named Jay to put Adnan away, but his claims keep changing over time. The state should not declare Adnan guilty because Jay’s testimony is too inconsistent. Jay is very inconsistent in his testimonies. According to Serial Timeline Map, Jay’s first interview he said that he saw Hae’s body in the trunk of her own car at the Edmondson strip
Jay states he was at Cathy's house with Adnan “before they went to bury her body. It was about six o’clock at night.” This quote proves that Jay was involved in the murder. He clearly wouldnt have admitted that he murdered Hae and burried her body. By saying he only helped bury the body would relieve the possiblity of him being the murderer because he now shows evidence that he was together with Adnan.
Why would Jay need to keep changing his story if he did not commit the murder. Another coincidence was that jay knew where the car was located and he described the dead body in so much detail (“The Alibi’). There is no way if you glanced at a dead body you would remember so much detail. Also, he would not have known where the car was if he had no part in the murder. Along with the evidence I listed and other inconsistent evidence not adding up, prove Adnan is just as innocent as
One piece of evidence that proves that Adnan is innocent and that did not kill Hae Lee is Jay's inconsistencies in his stories and interviews when talking to the police. When Jay is being interviewed by the police he tells in chronological order what happened and what he remembers from that night when Hae Lee was murdered. Evertime Jay told his story a small detail or location would change and not match up with the original story. In Episode 4: Inconsistencies Jay is being interviewed by the police, they had asked “why would you lie about the location? ”. Jay responded with, “Because I’m
They never used his alibi Asia, stating that he was in the library during the time of the murder. The DNA found on Haes Lee's body was never tested, because it cost to much to do so. The lack of evidence was a big issue with the case. Looking back the only thing the state had on Adnan was Jay's stories. Jay is not a very reliable source.
No one in public saw the two together when the prosecution is trying to place them together. The claims aren 't even really contradictory. No one is saying Adnan got in Hae 's car. The only supporting piece to his possible guilt would be that he asked for a ride. That 's it.
If I was part of the jury I would’ve said that Adnan is not guilty. I say this because there’s simply not enough valid evidence that clearly points to Adnan murdering Hae. I still go with my initial instinct that something is up with Jay. My theory is that Jay was jealous of Adnan and Stephanie’s relationship. Peers described Jay as “He was ‘mean, intimidating, shady’”
This quote proves Adnan is innocent because their was an ice storm the day Hae went missing and Adnan wouldn’t been able to kill her on that day. Adnan isn’t guilty because Asia wants to prove that he is innocent. “I just wanted you to know where I stode in this entire issue (on the centerline).” This quote proves that Adnan is innocent because Asia wants to prove the court wrong. Therefore, Adnan isn’t guilty because Asia wants to prove that Adnan didn’t kill Hae and she wants to prove the court
These two reasons are all that a person should need to believe that Adnan didn't have enough motive, or time, to kill Hae. Jays testimony sets the timeline and proves there is enough evidence, which is not presented by Adnan’s lawyer, to say Adnan is innocent by a straying story. The time period where Hae could've been killed does not match Adnan’s timeline. Jay, who is a convicted felon, was the only witness and is trusted to give a good story. Cristina Gutierrez, who was Adnan’s lawyer, had medical issues that distracted her from using useful information in his case.
To illustrate, no physical evidence was used to prove Adnan’s guilt. Some may argue that the story Jay told was good evidence confirmed by Adnan’s cell phone records, but the truth is that the records barely line up at all. Furthermore, the story that Jay tells shifts each time he tells is, so it is impossible to know if he is telling the truth. Those who believe Adnan is guilty think the consistencies in his story are enough to prove he is telling the truth. At trial, though, Jay does admit to lying about his story when he tells it, and that does make him an unreliable main witness.
In the first interview, he confessed of knowing what had happened to Hae due to the fact that he was there to witness it all. In his testimony, he revealed that Adnan had strangled Hae to death at a Best Buy parking lot because Adnan was angry at the fact that Hae had besmirched his honor. Jay also gave the detectives’ concrete evidence to show that he was credible. The strongest evidence that he had provided them was the location of Hae’s missing car. When the detectives saw the Hae’s missing car at the location where Jay said it would be found,
An evidence that makes Adnan guilty is when the State “contended that Hae was killed between 2:15 and 2:36 parking lot, about a mile from Woodlawn High School” (Chen 16). Basically, Adnan and Hae were together during that time frame where Adnan strangled her at the Best Buy parking lot. Adnan told Jay to come pick him up afterwards. This aligns perfectly with Jay’s story because he told the detectives that Adnan had killed Hae at the Best Buy parking lot. Thus, making Adnan the prime suspect since he was last seen with Hae.
Kayla Payton ENG 101 Ms.Lafferty September 10, 2015 Why Can’t You Tell The Truth? Jay Wilds is a graduate student from Woodlawn Hills High School; he graduated a year before Adnan and Hae. Jay knew them from school and also because of his girlfriend Stephanie whom Jay has been dating since middle school. Adnan and Stephanie been have friends since middle school, and were close they was in the magnet together, and they was also crowned the Queen and King of junior prom in 1998. Serial has everybody questioning on who the murderer of Hae is, and is everybody telling the truth or is someone lying about everything.
She states “A year after Adnan was arrested and the case came to trial, Jay walked up to the witness stand. There’s a moment when Adnan muttered something to him” (45). By Adnan calling Jay pathetic he showed that he couldn’t believe Jay would rat him out. This incident shows that Adnan is a liar and is mad at Jay for going to the police, showing that he is guilty. Even after controlling himself through the whole case he snapped when he saw the man that betrayed him.
