This play covers the second half of Henry IV of England’s reign. Continuing the story from Henry IV, Part 1, Scottish rebels (under the leadership of the earl of Northumberland) war with the English crown. Henry IV’s younger son John of Lancaster offers amnesty to the rebels if they will surrender; but he kills them when they comply. Henry IV also dies, leaving Prince Hal to become King Henry V; Hal must (again) give up his riotous life with Falstaff to assume his regal duties.
