How did the potion affect Lysander and Titania differently?
Both Titania and Lysander were given the flower potion. The potion causes them to fall in love with whoever or whatever they see when they wake up. Despite them already holding love for somebody else, it overrides that love and makes them love someone else against their will. Titania and Lysander had different experiences with the love potion that further advances the plot.
Firstly, Lysander was the first person to receive the potion. When he awoke Helena was standing over him, causing him to fall in love with her at the sight of her. This effect of the potion complicates things, as he had run away with Hermia to live their lives together. The effect of the potion causing him to fall out of love for her is disastrous to their plan and relationship. As Lysander was sleeping. Puck used the potion on him, with Helena in tow so that the potion would “fix his sight”, as she wished to be Hermia so Demetrius would love her. The plan backfired as Puck was supposed to use the potion on Demetrius instead but mistaken him for Lysander. The effect on him was a mistake as he was never meant to receive the potion, this is different from how it is used on Titania.
Moreover, Tatiana was the second person to receive the love potion. Oberon and Titania

In Oberon’s anger he decides to get revenge on Titania, by making Puck use the potion on her, making her fall in love with the first beast she sees when she wakes up. Puck had turned Nick Bottom into a donkey, which is the first being Titania saw when she woke up. Bottom attempts to reject her and run away but Titania forces him to stay. This advances the plot as Titania is already married to Oberon, and Bottom is needed to perform the play. Unlike Lysander the potion was intended for Titania, as a revenge from Oberon from their
In the play A Midsummer’s Night Dream by William Shakespeare, many of the characters relentlessly pursue their goals in the face of illogical decisions, and, while fictional items such as the “love-in-idleness” flower are used to explain the character’s sudden love for each other, the play does illustrate how love and ambition can lead to unforeseen consequences. For example, when Puck accidently anointed Lysander’s eyes with the “love-in-idleness” juice, he started a chain of events leading to Lysander and Demetrius fighting over Helena while Hermia is treated as though she is worthless. Moreover, at one point, Lysander and Demetrius even threatened to duel each other when Lysander awoke after being anointed with the flower 's juice and said, "Where is Demetrius? O, how fit a word is that vile name to perish on my sword" (61). This shows how the character’s love for certain other characters, and their ambition to pursue said love, can lead to the destruction of previous relationships and lead them to make dangerous decisions.
This quote shows that Oberon uses the magic flower and then Titania gives Oberon the child immediately. Oberon found that trying to control someone else works, but only if you are using
She orders her fairies to do whatever he wants. Bottom is talking about how he wants honey and then he wants dried peas, but in the end he just wants to sleep. Titania sends her fairies away and sleeps with bottom. When Titania and Bottom fall asleep Oberon and Puck enter. Oberon tells Puck how he saw the
In Act 2, Oberon puts a love potion on Titania as a trick to make her fall in love with a beast. “I will place the pollen from the flowers loin Titania's eyelids so that the next thing she sees- be it lion, bear, wolf, or bull- she will fall madly in love with, and I will get that boy. ”(5) Oberon controls Titaina with a love potion to make her fall in love with a hideous beast because he is angry that she won't give him the little boy. In anger he is controlling his wife to get what he wants.
In William Shakespeare’s play A Midsummer Night’s Dream the circumstances surrounding love have been put into question, this occurs when a magical nectar is put in the eyes of three major characters, and changes their feelings towards the people in their lives. Titania, Lysander and Demetrius all have had the nectar put into their eyes, though Demetrius avoids having this done to him in act 2 scene 2 which is the scene that the focus of this paper will be looking at. Throughout the play, we focus largely on the love life of Helena, which unfortunately does not seem to exist. She is in love with Demetrius, whom does not care for her in the same way, he does not cherish her at all before he is under the influence of magic. Once Lysander declares
He gets control over Titania by putting a love potion on her eyes whilst she is sleeping. The first thing she sees she falls in love with. She falls in love with a donkey and realizes her mistakes and gives the boy to Oberon. Likewise, the play states: ¨I´ll watch Titania when she is asleep and drop liquor of
Hermia, much to her father 's dismay, is deeply in a mutual love with a different nobleman, Lysander. In addition, Hermia 's childhood best friend and Demetrius were in love prior to his sights turning towards Hermia. This crushed Helena, causing her to lose self-confidence, but still: she yearns for Demetrius 's love. Hermia and Lysander 's love, Egeus 's harsh rule, and Helena 's unrequited love for Demetrius causes the lovers to leave Athens.
In addition, Hermia 's childhood best friend and Demetrius were in love prior to his sights turning towards Hermia. This crushed Helena, causing her to lose self-confidence, but still: she yearns for Demetrius 's reciprocated love. Lysander and Hermia are in love with each other. Egeus does not approve of his daughter 's chosen love.
Titania is the queen of the fairies and one person who gets tricked by Oberon's love potion. Titania shows how love is determined by people in different situations including how Titania falls in love with bottom (by a love potion) or the situation of Titania and Oberon.
With many of the different scenes throughout the play, the theme of “A Midsummer Night’s Dream” is that love is difficult. In the play when Hermia 's father tries to tear Hermia and Lysander
Gentle lover, remedy. (squeezes flower juice into LYSANDER ’s eyes)” (Shakespeare 3.2.463-466). This idea that true love is good can only be seen, without any fairy help, with Lysander and Hermia, and the fairies keeping Demetrius under the effects of the flower shows that love and free will are not always compatible. They took Demetrius’s free will in order to make his love true, and this is supposed to be a good thing while Demetrius is left without any agency in his own love life.
Lysander’s spell makes him fall in love with Helena. Demetrius never loved Helena until he gets put under a spell which makes him love Helena. That causes the two best friends, Hermia, and Helena to fight over lovers. Hermia is annoyed because both Lysander and Demetrius love Helena, even though before they both loved her. Shakespeare uses different characters, settings, and conflicts throughout A Midsummer Night’s Dream to
Intro Hook If love is magical, can love be created be magic? Is love created through a magical love potion as strong as genuine affection? How powerful is this illusion of magic, and will it withstand the reality of day? In A Midsummer’s Night’s Dream, by William Shakespeare, the lovers of Hermia, Helena, Demetrius and Lysander experience both real love and dream-like infatuation.
/ O, then, what graces in my love do dwell / That he hath turn'd a heaven unto a hell!'” which is a quote stated by Hermia; I think this quote is discussing what she think may happen to her if she follows her heart to marry Lysander she is unsure whether she will go to heaven or hell for the disobedient actions she has taken. So as you can see the love/hate triangle going on is very somewhat “Out of whack” There’s not much good coming out of how they feel about each other, definitely not a kind of relationship that I would enjoy getting deep into reading about, but I have to be honest this is a story filled with very eager and brave women who will go after what they want with no problem or scarce in their hearts(Sounds exactly like me)!
The readers knew a love potion was put into both Lysander and
