In order to contribute a positive relationship it is essential to demonstrate and model an effective communication skill when dealing with children which means that considering both how the practitioner approach other people and responding the children. It is effectively more likely to communicate information to one another if having a positive relationship. Effective communication plays an important role in developing positive relation with children, young people and adults. It is also essential that the practitioner is interested in development of the children by using effective communication skills, building a positive relationship, approaching and responding in appositive manner, making feel comfortable or supporting which it’s required.

The Raising of children has been a topic that has changed quite a lot because things change due to the surroundings of the child and who they are bore from. Children from the 16th - 17th century were treated well based on their social status on birth, if you were born into wealth you would likely survive and if you were born a bastard or into poverty then you would be more likely to die of disease or infanticide. Although infanticide was rampant in Europe during these times it had been going for ages, like in Sparta when children were born female or weak they would kill them because they weren’t good enough to be born into their society.The adults opinion on children over time changed from loving their children to killing them changed a lot

When a child is going through a difficult time such as a family break up it is important to put the child’s needs first because if you don’t the child may not be able to achieve their full potential. A way to do this is by having a child centred practice and planning around a child, so that the routine fits around the child and their individual needs are planned for. In my placement the practitioners would plan out what they are going to do, while making sure individual needs are taken into consideration. It is important to work closely with other professionals when planning for transitions because they would be able to help provide the appropriate support the child will need, this can be done by working in partnership with professionals that can help with that transition and coming up with a plan or routine to follow to support the child.

During the beginning of modern Europe, there were conflicting views on the proper way to view children. Previously in history, the infant mortality rate was very high, so kids were treated more like adults and were often neglected because odds were they would die. There was a resounding view that kids should be treated harshly in order to become strong. Then in the seventeenth century, the idea of being tender and gentle to your kids was introduced. The way in children were brought up was influenced by assumptions made on both old and new schools of thought. One such assumption was that kids needed punishment to be decent and this resulted in a harsh upbringing. However, there was a newer, opposing assumption in which using reason was believed

Spaces must tolerate movement and noise generated by the child. Children, like adults, are influenced in how they feel and behave by the total environment and the physical setting in particular. Adults notice order and cleanliness; children notice small spaces to crawl into or materials to make something out of. A large open area may be an invitation to run if it is of the right scale and proportion; but it also can create sense of fear and loneliness if the proportions are beyond in relation to children.

It is very important to establish a routine as an early year practitioner. Routines will support the physical care needs of children. It should provide a predictable and well-ordered environment, children know what to expect. They are comforting and provide regularity, especially for babies as they enable them to adjust to their own body rhythms. For toddlers, routines provide security and they are a way of teaching children about how to look after themselves. The predictability of routines helps to reduce anxiety and the child can develop self-control.

Homework policy outlines the roles in which a parent involved with their children’s learning and supporting the child by providing appropriate resources, in which the child will need to complete their homework and making sure it is handed in on time.

Development is a gradual and continuous process. The development of children is greatly influenced through interactions with the family, friends and culture. Children learn from seeing how they are treated, overhearing the interactions of the people around them and observing the things we do all throughout the day. Fully understanding how children grown and change over the course of childhood requires us to look into various child development theories such as psychosocial, cognitive, behaviourist and ecological theories, to name a few. The various development theories could greatly help us in guiding and caring for children. As every child is unique and does have different experiences, there is no single theory that can effectively explain

It is important that children are able to receive holistic care while in a play environment, both inside and outside. Some of the principles which would apply to both indoor and outdoor play include a child centred practice, ensuring the child 's welfare and safety, promoting a child 's rights, and enabling a child to reach their full potential.

Many theorists discuss ways in which children are developing. Physically, emotionally, socially and language progressions. Within the early childhood sector, the study of children's development is vividly important as teachers learn to observe the children's individual learning patterns and habits. The practical knowledge of how to develop a child further will assist in utilising the children's skills and holistic development to their fullest potential, however, knowing how to practically aid children in the separate developmental domains is also key as individual kids need more help in some areas than others.

Throughout this course of four weeks, my perspective of child development has changed drastically in this short amount of time. This was my first class that was related to child development and there was a lot of material that was important to learn and understand. I came to this class with not much knowledge, but I am definitely leaving this class with an abundance of information that I will be able to use in my career or just in general.

Referrals are made to different agencies who specialise in different aspects for children or young people. Referrals are made to ensure the welfare and protection of children and young people are at paramount.
