The Five Pillars of Islam are the framework of Muslim life and outline the duties required of a Muslim. The pillars include shahada (faith), salat (prayer), zakat (charity), sawm (fasting), and hajj (pilgrimage to Mecca). As Muslims carry out their duties through the Five Pillars it connects them to Allah every day and creates the foundation of Islam as the center of life. The Five Pillars are important to Islam because it builds, connects, and unifies the Islamic society by strengthening their faith to Allah.
Of the Five Pillars, the first is shahada, the profession of faith that states, “There is no god but God, and Muhammad is His messenger” (Mohammad, 278). By saying this everyday it reiterates that Muhammad was just a prophet, messenger of God, and that there is only one God, Allah. This strengthens the faith,

The next pillar is salat, daily prayer. Muslims are required to pray five times a day towards Mecca. Before the prayer they prepare themselves by washing their hands and feet through a ritual purification called wudu (Mohammad, 279). The prayers serve as a reminder of how important faith and the practice is to Muslim’s daily life. By requiring prayer every day, it reminds Muslims throughout the day to do good and thank Allah. The third pillar is zakat or charity; which states Muslims are to share their wealth with those they identify in need among their community of believers (Ibrahim). This helps close the wealth gap in the Islam community to try and get closer to everyone living equally. By giving to the needy it lessens the value of money and material items. The fourth pillar is sawn, which requires fasting on Ramadan, the ninth month in the Islamic calendar. Muslims must refrain from eating, drinking, smoking, and having sex from sunrise to dusk to learn Taqwa, God-consciousness (Macaulay-Lewis). This teaches through first-hand experience what it is like be
KAILI HONG PER.3 THE ISLAMIC EXPANSION The early Islamic empire expanded in a couple of ways. One of the ways was the war. I found this evidence in document A where it says that the Muslims to fight gathered together to fight the Greeks. The Greeks would tie each others foots to each other so none of them would escape during the war.
The Islamic Empire was huge, large, and untied. The early Islamic empire expanded by fiercely attacking and conquering other lands, as well as uniting them. To start off, In Document A (which is reliable because it happens to be written by Muslim historian Ahmad al-Biladuri in the 800s) it talks about how they killed 70,000 people. Even girls helped in creating a bloodbath which shows how fierce and strong they were on a battlefield and how they easily took more lands.
These 2 excerpts indicate that Muslims set the standard for other countries to become and helped those countries with their journey to get to that point. Another thing that Muslims excelled at was math and science. Document 4 states, “Muslim mathematicians also adopted Arabic numerals from the Indians and used them in place-value systems.” Combining Indian guidance with their own ideas of advancement, impacted the rest of the Western Civilization. Algebra stemmed from this place-value system and it is now used in everyday life.
The Islamic religion was created by the prophet Muhammad and his revelations from Allah. He gained many followers because his teachings appealed to many different people. Islam continued to grow throughout many regions, uniting people and cultures. Because their geography was set in the midst of Eurasia, it gave them the ability conquer and spread ideas quickly. Muslims had a large tolerance of other cultures and they were able to advance scholarship to the highest level of that time.
It is a monotheistic faith based on revelations received by its founder Muhammed. According to the religion, the angel Gabriel revealed many messages to Muhammed which he shared with what was a polytheistic world at the time. Muslims read from the sacred text of the Qur’an which are said to contain the literal word of God. According to Document 8, Muslims practice The Five Pillars of Faith and must carry out each of their duties. They must make a “pilgrimage to Mecca” at least one in their lifetime.
Mohammad Allah is the one and only God of the Muslims. Islam literally means “surrender” or “submission,” indicating wholehearted surrender to God, and a Muslim is one who submits to God (Allah) (Molloy p. 414). The Five Pillars of Islam—belief in one God, praying five times a day, fasting, giving to charity, and going on pilgrimage—guide all Muslims (Video). Muslims are obligated to go to the pilgrimage once in their life, because they will have it with them for the rest of their life.
During the 600’s, Islam began to spread fast throughout the region, but they’re many reasons why Islam is still around today and has been successful in gaining followers since then. But why did it spread so fast? It could be because of the followers Muhammad had, and the routes that Islam traveled on that it became the phenomenon that it is today. Why is it a well known religion today? The devoted followers are the base of the answer.
These include declarations of faith, prayers, fasting during Ramadan, charitable giving and the Hajj. The spread of Islam in the Mediterranean world had a profound impact on the cultural and religious identity of Western Europe, which was dominated by Christianity at that time. The Islamic empire brought a new culture and way of life to Western Europe, challenging the region's dominant Christian identity. Muslim scholars and intellectuals brought new ideas and knowledge that helped transform Western European culture and society. The pillars of Islam have had a profound impact on the cultural and religious identity of Western
Islam is a religion, so how do you think it came about. Well because of trade, military conquest, and political order. All of these subjects are why Islam spread so quickly. In document A, the passage was talking about trade. During 570, in the Middle East Islam spread so quickly through trade.
Every year thousands of Muslims from the Islamic religion make the journey to the city of Mecca, called a Hajj. This is the city where their founder, Muhammed, was born and a major center of commerce. Every person in the Islam religion is expected to make this travel at least once in their lifetime. The experience is one of the fiver pillars of the religion and is supposed to bring together the Muslims from across the world in unity. This year during the Hajj there was a stampede that caused a deadly killing of 717 people.
We are obliged, at least once in our lives, to visit the holy city of Mecca.’” (pg. 54). These obligations are known as the ‘Five Pillars of Islam’ and they are considered necessary by believers in the Islam
The second pillar is prayer. For this pillar, it is essential that Muslims pray at least five times a day. For each of these different prayers, they talk to their God to obtain a stronger connection. The third pillar they follow is the ‘Zakat’. Zakat means pure or growth (Sherif Abbassy, www.quora.com).
Muslims put their full faith in God and rely on him to guide them the right way. This is shown in The Alchemist by Paulo Coelho. Santiago puts his full faith in God on the way to his personal legend and has no doubt that some things are signs from God. At the place in front of the pyramids where he is crying, he looks down and sees a scarab beetle. He knows that this is a sign from God and that he must begin digging.
The five pillars of Islam stand as a significant difference from Christianity. Just as in Christianity, Jesus ' mother Mary, is looked upon as an essential figure of the religion. Islam 's five pillars consist of a
The three aspects of Islam are Tawheed Ar-Rububiyyah which means Oneness of Allah’s Lordship – Believing in Allah alone. Tawheed Al-Asmaa Wal Sifat, maintaining the attributes of Allah. Then comes the third aspect Tawheed Al-Uloohiyyah or Tawheed Al-Ibaadah meaning Oneness of worship.
