Furtively a hand slips out of the mosquito net, fumbles at the cane side table by the bed and swiping its index finger across the glowing mobile screen silences the humming guitar ring.
Retracing the arm back in, he turns side, switches off the AC and taking his younger daughter’s palm in his fist glances at her face wondering places she would be wandering in the world of sleep. “I will catch you.” Was all that she could manage. In between her coughs and her face red.
Picking up speed, he wondered whether he would be able to survive the distance as his chest heaved.
Every next step he thought would be his last. Every next 100 metre he promised he would stop. His feet laggard, his breath heavy, he kept moving measuring the steps of the runners ahead of him.
Often his mind would go back to his elder daughter, diagnosed with allergic bronchitis, someone who loves to run—she had only recently won two silver medals at school in sprinting events—walking in the company of her friends and their teachers perhaps at the farthest end .
Body lugging the legs and the legs lugging the body, he went on grabbing a water bottle from a helping hand while forcing smile on the cheer ‘kids’ as they jived to a well-rehearsed motion picked up from TV and practiced at school in shimmering liveries fluttering pompoms in their gripped hands.

Some minutes later, marked by time he felt had stopped, they reached the vicinity of Swarna Jayanti Park in Indirapuram (Ghaziabad District in Uttar Pradesh, part of Delhi NCR), a heaven, he thought, where his agony would end. A sprawling complex, that it was, his mind juggled how near or far the organizers had planned the finishing spot.
The lungs heaved, the heart panted, the body beseeched and the mind helplessly implored them to last a while more as they together trundled on. So it went on until they turned left, and lo behold, they sighted the finishing line. 100-150 metres was all he had to go. The torture would seem like a distant memory. The joy would be once more by his side.
So he made a dash. And his companion followed. Though he was heavy, but he went past him. As he crossed the finishing line he found himself lost in the melee of runners, and a few of those making it on two-wheelers, it brought a pang in his heart.
Glancing at his phone, tapping the App off, he made a mental note of the details.

He thought about how correct the man had been. They again started their way toward the city. Because of the time that they walked, they became weary. The journey back had to
He’d spent the last hour of the drive trying to ignore the fear and the worry that had grown intertwining roots in his heart. Fear that no matter what he did, he might not
He was able to get away from her, but he didn 't get far.
He was now in the most remote area and deepest part of the Amazon rainforest, uncharted, and completely isolated from any human soul. A perfect place for Hell, he thought. Who else would come to such a Godforsaken place except himself and his intended query? Even the trees above him were incredibly tall and foreboding, blocking out the harsh sunlight from time to time, a natural blanket that gave no relief from the constant humidity and biting insects. An unseen bird cried out suddenly and that startled him for a moment.
I did not run fast, but just fast enough when all I can focus on was the sound of my breath and the rhythm of my feet. It felt soothing, as if I was the only one in the world and as if everything that had caused me problems faded away. Though I could not actually run away from the difficult situations I was facing, by running alone, I could have a break from the exhausting life and have some time to regather myself. By connecting to my own personal experiences, I had a better understanding of how Cheryl had felt on her hike and the reason people wanted and enjoyed being
Yet, there is still one issue that I’ve always wondered about. One could say that my experience in cross country has been far from normal. One year, I was running a thirty-minute 5k, and ranked eighty-sixth on the team. The
His story might have finished tragically, however it was the story he was composing. He arranged for a long time to "stroll into nature." He brought with him an aide of the neighborhood widely varied vegetation, to support himself when amusement wasn't copious. Above all, he wanted to exit. He attempted to take off.

On a good day you 're mediocre, on a day like today, you 're horrific. That race, and the world-shattering heartbreak that followed, forever changed the way I saw running. I discovered that even hard work is not always invincible at the hands of fate.

Escaping gravity allowed me to escape my thoughts that overwhelmed and plagued me with pain and struggles. As I descended, I prepared for another jump. I hoped to find that boy back at his house, spending hours on the trampoline, freeing himself from his thoughts and enjoying his
“The girl was running. Running for her life, in the hope of finding a safe haven for her and her family. She never looks back, the only indication her father was still behind her was his ragged breathing above her head, forming puffs of air in this cold morning. She suddenly stumbles on a root, but her mother secures her fall with a small wisp of air. They lock hands, all three of them, and continue pushing themselves, desperately trying to find the others they lost on the way.
