It's hard to transition to ninth grade because students have to try even harder to pass. Korbey (2015) stated, the transition from middle school to high school is a big one, perhaps bigger than appeared at first blush. Ninth grade is difficult because it tells whether students graduate or not. When students move into high school it's so different. Willens,( 2013 ) When students start over they start to forget things.
There’s no doubt that being an eighth grader has many challenges. In the passage ‘The Challenges of Being an Eighth grader’ states that, “Because of the boatloads of homework we seem to get, and after-school activities galore, if one of your friends has different classes than you then you may rarely get to see them” (Jenkins 14). That means that we get a lot of work as eighth graders and not as much free time to see our friends from the year before. Another statement said, “Many [students] are afraid that their family will embarrass them at a school function” (Jenkins 14). Family members that could be attending the same school could be embarrassing, which adds pressure to them. There are also problems with parent-to-friend connections. In
As a child, high school seemed like a place that was miles away. Everything about it- with the exception of the graffitied bathroom stalls-lit up my eyes with the dream that I would one day be walking down its halls as a student. Although high school felt so far away, Montville High School itself was no stranger to me. When I was younger, my mom tortured me by sending me to the Chinese program held there every Sunday. I also used the school’s athletic facilities from joining the recreation track program, which I stopped going to after two weeks from discovering my antipathy for physical activity. From all of this, I quickly became familiar with what others would think as the overwhelming layout of the school. For some reason, I had always felt
High School. The epitome of how poorly someone can be treated based on what they like, or what they wear, or say and do. The doors you walk through each day are the entrance to the jungle; it seems harmless at first, but as soon as you enter you are stalked and watched by the predators. Any high school looks great to an outsider, but deep down they all consist of a ludicrous social hierarchy. In The Body of Christopher Creed by Carol Plum-Ucci, Victor “Torey” Adams experiences these things first hand after he pulls away from the scum he once knew and loved, those who contributed to Christopher Creed’s disappearance. He sees how they beat people down and how ruthless they can be with him and his newfound friends. In her writing, Carol Plum-Ucci poses the question, “How does judgement of others affect how a person
The debate of gun control dates back 100s of years, and many people want to ban guns so that no one can have them. That statement is complete ignorance to what really goes on. The debate has many different viewpoints with some being as radical as banning guns to create a false sense of Utopia. The recent rise of school shootings has set off a spark of gun control debates that make little sense. What if the school shooter was met by a principal at the door who happened to be carrying a 9mm handgun under his suit where 99.9% of students did not even know it was there? Guns are a very prominent tool that when in the right hands can lead to the saving of people and hunting animals without any harm
Within juvenile detention facilities, staff place children in isolation for varying periods of time, ranging from hours to months. The reasons staff place children in solitary confinement cells vary widely from one facility to the next, and even from one staff to another at the same facility. Employees often place a youth in isolation because it is the easiest and fastest way to ensure facility security. Some rationales for the practice are: safety, security, disciplinary, administrative, protective and medical. Using this method to control a youth’s behavior or for a disciplinary reason is very common. Experts conclude this practice is both widespread and underreported. Staff use solitary confinement as a security management tool; until more effective solutions are available and implemented, youth will continue to experience substantial negative repercussions of being confined in a solitary cell.
Social isolation is a chronic psychological disorder affecting an individual’s relationship with the society. It refers to the complete or limited lack of contact between an individual and the members of the society. Both the Enock Emery and Johnny Bear’s narratives illustrate social isolation as a dominant theme.
Who is Angel Perez II? I am Angel Perez and this is my first year at California State University San Bernardino. But how did I get here? It has been a long journey throughout the years. I am a very unique one of a kind person you will never find someone else like me.
The documentary, “Kids Locked in Solitary Confinement” depicts the toll that solitary confinement can have on the juvenile population. Approximately, 27% of adolescents in Riskers Island are in solitary confinement. The majority of which have not yet been convicted of a crime. However, these juveniles are in jail because they cannot afford to post bail. Supporters of solitary confinement believe that the segregation juveniles experience is not equivalent to the segregation in the federal system. Essentially, they believe that juveniles experience a lesser form of true segregation. Nevertheless, Psychiatrists expressed that juveniles should not be in solitary confinement. Teens are forced to live in an 8ft.by 6ft. cell, those cells are even
“Darn, surrounded by all of these nice homes and communities, this High School should be really nice,” is what I thought once I got to the North Druid Hills Rd and North Cliff Valley Way intersection. In front of me all that I could see was vibrant communities that displayed their affiliation with the Lenox area, which is a very rich area. Making a left onto North Druid Hills Road, I continued to see beautiful homes on my right and my left I began to see the campus of Cross Keys High School. Due to the tons of leaves that had fallen, the bare trees that occupied the front of the campus, and the splotchy patches of grass, viewing the Cross Keys campus was not as striking to the eye as was the view of the surrounding homes. Having such a bare
Born to a loving young couple, looking up at the doctor not knowing how the world works. Just coming out of the womb and being laid onto her mother 's arms, so harmless, so unknowing, so curious. That is Bailey Marie Storey. Many others have been in the exact same position but, there 's a 99.99 percent chance you will never walk the same footsteps as her. The life that each and every person lives is different. Some can end quickly, whiles others can change in an instant. Moments that are spontaneous, not planned, and never taken for granted are the life changing memories that you can never get back. Those moments are called life.
The best part of eighth grade is the fun experiences you get to have with your fellow classmates and the excitement of a new chapter in your life approaching. People might think of school as abate, but really it is more work your eighth grade year then the previous middle school years because of pressure of high school approaching. Although some people may want to stymie you from having a great year emotionally and educationally, it makes you work that much harder. At the end of the school year, you garner your achievements wether it be an award or you reach your goal from the beginning of the year.

Do you know any bullies? There are bullies everywhere around the world. Everywhere you go. Like at the store, neighborhood, schools, everywhere around you. But the most common bullies are at schools. Do you know anyone that is singled out of the crowd? I know quite few people that are singled out. Three types of students that get singled out at my school are the weird person, the class clown, and the brains. People are bullied all the time, no matter how big you are, no matter how small you are, no matter who you are.
Over the years the issue of suicide has been slowly increasing. It is now the third leading cause of death among young people. The effects of suicide are tragic and felt long after the individual has taken their own life. Some people who consider suicide, however, never make a “serious” attempt at it. For every attempted suicide, there is said to be more than one person whose thought of suicide has never translated into an actual attempt. Suicide prevention largely targets teenagers in hope to lower the numbers of suicides a year. Depression, anxiety and, stress are the leading causes of adolescent suicide.
