A bachelor’s degree in nursing takes longer than an Associates Degree, it is a 4 year program that not only implements clinical skills, but also emphasizes critical thinking skills and leadership skills. Nurses in a baccalaureate program are more highly trained in nursing theory and history, nursing research, and leadership/management roles. A Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing gives more options to nurses that are seeking to move up the career ladder and away from bedside nursing such as becoming a nurse educator, public health nurse, or obtaining a management positions. Holding a BSN also gets a person closer to pursing a higher degree in nursing such as Masters degree.
