Last weekend, I had a trip to Thomas Kinkade’s gallery at Kemah. I was not really affected by any type of artworks before. However, when I saw Thomas Kinkade’s artworks, I then became a big fan of Thomas Kinkade’s paintings. While walking around the gallery, I was attracted to the painting named Hometown Lake. This piece of art not only is impressive, but also has a significant meaning to me. It reminds me of my own hometown in Viet Nam. The painting Hometown Lake was published in August, 1997 and its material is oil on canvas. It is the fourth release in Thomas Kinkade’s Hometown Memory collection. He created this painting based on his own boyhood memory of his hometown. Thomas Kinkade, the Painter of light, was born on January 19th, 1958 …show more content…
He moved beyond memory to realm his deepest imaginings when he painting this piece of art. Kinkade hoped to capture the wonderful memories and the romantic ideal of a traditional hometown in this painting. He wanted people in every area of the nation and all parts of the culture share this vision, this longing for a peaceful lakeside of his hometown in Placerville. He also hoped that Hometown Lake would remind viewer of their own childhoods. He believed that anyone whether they grew up in a small town, city or farm, hometown is the special place for a …show more content…
The village in the painting expresses the peaceful and romantic scene. The light is shining from the viewer direction, and it make the painting look all warm as it is wrapped in a summer feel. Furthermore, the color of the trees in the back of the village, red and orange of the leaves make the Fall theme for the painting. Whereas the top of the painting described the Summer and Fall, at the bottom, the full bush of .., and a redbud tree are the symbols of Spring. The artist combined all the seasons together makes the painting looks lively and vivid. In addition, the lights inside the houses and the smoke from the chimneys make the picture seems like a warm dinner time. The little dog lying in front of the first house make it become the home sweet home. Boaters slowly paddle along the lake and while the ducks gently glide along beside. All of these details together created a peaceful hometown. It is wonderful how the worn path connecting every homes brings neighbor together to share the same lake. Hometown myths and memories live in a secret place in the heart that is beyond the reach of

In the Lake of the Woods Analysis In chapter one of the poem, Tim O’Brien begins by introducing two unnamed characters who, indeed after the aftermath of a primary election, the audience learn that they decide to rent a cottage in what the author refers to as Lake of the Woods. The area surrounding the cottage has no people or towns. However, the same cottage has a beautiful view in terms of a lake facing to the north of Canada. The two unnamed characters came to the place in sought of solitude and togetherness. From this perspective, O’Brien develops his fiction story from a point of uncertainty.
This oil on canvas art piece is a beautiful scenery of a sunset over the sea and a lighthouse on a cliff to the far left of the painting. Next
I attended the Texas Coast exhibit by Carol Plumb, which was held at the Learning Resource Center at TSTC on October 22, 2015.The piece of art that caught my eye was “Clouds over Laguna”. The category I believe this artwork falls under the environmental and cultural. “Clouds over Laguna” depicts the Texas Coast and displays culturally how important it is to the residents of South Texas and environmentally how it should be cared for. The artwork by Plumb is very realistic.
The writer depicts and describes the grim beauty in a somber scene, stating, “The smoke from the hooches smelled like straw. It moved in patches across the village square, not thick anymore, sometimes just faint ripples like fog….The girl went up on her toes and made a slow turn and danced through the smoke. Her face had a dreamy look, quiet and composed” (130). The child frolicking through the charred remains of her dwelling place and family leaves a peculiar feeling that the narrator intentionally places in order to capture the strange attraction and, moreover, the magnificence of war.
The three pieces that I choose to critique are called Keith, Betty and Loch Lomond. The first painting, “Keith” is a painting done by the man named Chuck Close. This painting captures the detail of a man with an intense look upon his face.
The portrayal of the flourishing plant life and bright sun adds charm to the village and puts the reader
In this unit, we further explored the definition of meaning. Meaning can be described as the interaction between author and reader. It is the intended message that the author is trying to communicate with his audience. However, the meaning is not set. It is specifically based on the author and the reader's perspective of the work.
“I might have been making a terrible mistake all those years. As he lay there at the tip of the wave, surely K. had not been looking at me with hatred or resentment; he had not been trying to take me away with him. The more I studied K.’s watercolor that evening, the greater the conviction with which I began to believe these new thoughts of mine. For no matter how long I continued to look at the picture, I could find nothing in it but a boy’s gentle, innocent spirit.” Page 141-142 paragraphs 53-54.
The family shows signs of being part of either a low or poor class based off the conditions of the household they are living in and the bareness of their apartment. For instance, the dining room is extremely small and the kitchen seems old and worn out. Correspondingly, the family members seem to lack personality due to to the simple clothing they are wearing. However, the bright colors found interior of the home create a contrast between the dreary environment of the household. This helps convey the message that although the family may not be as economically stable and live a dull life, they still happily interact among one another and come together every evening to have a meal together.
Alfred Hitchcock used various symbols throughout the film Psycho to allow the viewer to get an insight of what is happening in the film. Symbolism is an exceptional way to entice the viewer as it creates suspense and makes it better to understand the film. Alfred uses paintings as a symbol, which can be seen in multiple scenes, to symbolize a certain character in the film to the painting and foreshadow events in the film. This allows the viewer to get more detail on the character’s personality and what is about to happen.
The brilliant hues of greens, purples, reds, and yellows that are strategically brushstroke on the piece give of a sense of impressionism. The characteristics of this piece capture the modern them of leisure activity. Caillebotte’s young cousin Zoe and brother Martial are depicted in this piece through the two characters. Both characters are dressed relaxed and have middle to upper class attire. The painting contains element of modern style through the scenery and garden.
Magdalena Carmen Frida Kahlo y Calderon, was born in 1907 in the town of Coyoacan just outside Mexico City. She was born to her parents Guillermo and Matilde Kahlo and was the third daughter of their four children. In 1910 when Frida was three the Mexican Revolution began; she claimed this year as her birth year so she would be associated with the revolution.
This example of personification couches the concept of the town as a person in a more human context in order to make it more relatable and vivid. Furthermore, the author also employs visual imagery with hoarfrosted icehouse door in order to activate the reader's
The picture that I am going to analyze is from Linda Soderquist, let me tell you about her. She lives on a bridgeless barrier island off the southwest coast of Florida and it gives her the opportunity to observe a variety of wildlife and be inspired by beaches. Been on the beach, she photograph and collect objects from the wrack line that will be incorporated into the watercolor paintings. Sea turtles and shorebirds are frequent painting themes, while weathered structures littering the island’s coastline also provide fascinating subjects. Attuned to nature, her paintings reflect the essence of a rustic, simple life.
