The approach that I am most comfortable with using and what I have used is the referral method. When I was younger I wanted to be a dentist, so my aunt talked to her dentist and asked if I could job shadow him and some of the dental hygienist. I got to job shadow for four days and because the referral I was able to get to know the dentist as well as other employees. Over the four days I was able to gain a personal connection with the dentist and one employee in particular. I asked them many questions and I could tell that they did not have a problem answering my questions or that they didn’t feel “annoyed” or “bothered” by me asking them questions.

College Options for Dental Hygienists Education Dental Hygienist can obtain their training from academic programs such as community colleges, technical colleges, and dental schools or universities. A community college program commonly takes about two years to complete, which is an associate degree. Dental hygienist candidates are required to at least have an associate’s degree. With an associate’s degree make licensure examination can be made, or become licensed to work at a dental office.
The first career I researched was dental hygienist. A dental hygienist is someone who cleans patient’s mouth, checks for and educates patients about mouth diseases, and take x-rays of the mouth. I chose to research this career because over the past year or so I became curious about this career. In my research I found many dental hygienist work at least two jobs because dentists hire them to work part time.
The career that fascinates me and what I plan to be when Im older, is a Dental Hygienist. A dental hygienist is a stressful job, but it helps a lot of people. You are helping people get better teeth and even look better, because when people have straight pretty teeth, they seem to have an upgrade in their looks. I haven’t always wanted to be a dental hygienist, I had many other career choices. But, something about making people smile when I’m the reason they look good doing it makes me happy.
Becoming a dental assistant is something that I have had a desire to do for three years. I had braces for three years, and throughout that time I was in and out of the dental office. Seeing the way these assistants helped my teeth and confidence was amazing. I realize I need to help people. Being a Dental Assistant Dental Assistants can help change a person’s life in many ways. Dental assistants provide their patients a way to stay healthy within oral activities while also providing general happiness to a patient. Assistants work hand in hand with a dental hygienist observing, supporting, and caring for the patients need, whenever they need them. They work with tools, sit and stand long periods per day, and work in one of the dirtiest places on the human body, the mouth (Summary). Dental Assistants practice safety measures, just like any other doctor would, to assure the safety of themselves, along with the safety of their patients and organs that are being worked on from infectious diseases.
My ambition to study Dental Hygiene and Therapy at University commenced in my teenage years, when I first came to London and visited the dentist. The professional approach coupled with a kind and compassionate nature and all of the different instruments and scientific technology the Dental Hygienist and Therapist used fascinated me. I am currently studying Dental Nursing at Teesside University. This course involves providing correct support to the dentist at the chair side, reassuring and supporting patients, maintaining a gold standard clinical environment, charting, dental anatomy and physiology. This profession fits best with my lifestyle because I plan on having new friends, living around the Joplin area and I love helping people feel their best and boosting their confidence.
