When I was growing up, multiple people questioned me about my future career, and others even pressured me into certain careers. All the influences I have had over time have formed my idea of the perfect occupation, that fits my personality and interests. The careers I have based my future life plans are a pharmacist or a certified registered nurse anesthetist. Both of these careers require a great deal of school and hard work. My decision of these careers was influenced by both of them being within the medical field, and also both focus on helping people.
The top physician assistant specialties that currently spark my interest are the pediatric practice, the surgical practice and the emergency department. I have previously shadowed all three fields in my pervious journey to obtaining my Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) licenses. The fields interested me because of the work required and the environments they worked in. However, any field would be fine with me as long as their primary mission is focused on the bettering of patient’s health. Once receiving my certification, I then plan to switch from United States Air Force Reserves (USAF-R) and reenlist back into active duty as an officer.
Calvin Neal Exploring a Health Career: Physician Assistant Ever since my cousin Paul, whom I’ve always looked up to, went to college and became a PA, I’ve wanted to follow in his footsteps. The definition of a physician assistant is “someone qualified to assist a physician and carry out routine clinical procedures under the supervision of a physician.” However, physician assistants can be so much more than that. They work in numerous fields such as pediatrics, obstetrics, orthopaedics, and with several health care providers such as nurses, surgeons, and physicians. I want to be a physician assistant because I want to be the face that people see throughout the healing process. Physician assistants, or PAs, perform small tasks such as taking information about a patient’s medical

Taking my career choice into consideration was key in my decision which for most people is a long, difficult, and tedious process. The university I will be attending next fall is Washington University in St. Louis. I immediately fell in love with the school as a result of the academic programs, its community, and the classic Midwestern hospitality that I have gotten used to after having lived most of my life in Nebraska. I believe that this university specifically will help me achieve my goal of eventually becoming a neurosurgeon and making a difference in medicine and the world. My talents will be best served and exemplified at a university of this nature and will push me to go for the stars and accomplish my
Ultrasound technicians may work and consult with everyone from janitors and other medical staff to medical assistants, nurses, physicians and radiologists. A medical assistant, or the ultrasound tech them self will call the patient back, escort them to a changing room and instruct them on how to be ready, or how to wear a gown for the procedure. The medical assistant will guarantee all pre-exam procedures have been followed correctly. After ensuring the patient is ready for the exam, the medical assistant would then report to the sonographer that patient is ready. Nurses also work closely with ultrasound technicians and patients.

Although I was focused on pursuing a career in the law I was also intrigued by the medical field. I was exposed to the world of medicine from a very young age. My mother, sister, and grandmother all had careers in the field. I was always the selected person to help them study for a quiz, practice a procedure on, and to hear about their stories from work. Their careers seemed fascinating.

The PA program is schooled under the medical model while nurse practitioners are schooled under the nursing model. The prerequisites for applying to a master’s program depend on what school individuals chose to apply to.
