Working in different settings and meeting new people that need to be taken care of has always interested me. The job I want to have while I go to college is the very challenging role of a Medical Assistant. Due to the experiences that have happened in my life, I believe that becoming a medical assistant is the best career choice for me. There are many duties and responsibilities I will have as a medical assistant. One of the responsibilities I would have as an medical assistant is answering telephones and dealing with patients. Other responsibilities I would have is greeting patients and updating/filing medical records. There is lots of education and training needed to become a medical assistant. One of the education and training needed to becoming a medical assistant is a high school diploma or GED. Another training that would be needed is some basic office schools and postsecondary nondegree award. There are many places in the United States to become a medical assistant. The top one of the training places I would like to go for training is Pasadena City College (PCC). Two other places I would like to go to for training is Orange Coast College (OCC), and Anthem College (AC). The job location I want to work in is California because California provides such a great medical assisting employment environment that three of the Bureau of Labor Statistics top ten medical assisting metropolitan areas are located in the state. An emergency room physician assistant practice and perform medicine on a team with other physician assistants under the surveillance of an emergency room physician in the emergency department. They are dependent to examine patients, analyze injuries and diseases, and provide treatment to patients in the emergency department. In the emergency department, physician assistants would face and treat life-threatening injuries or non-threatening situations. Even though they work under the supervision of an emergency room physician, they perform the same tasks as the emergency room physician. They also work full time in the emergency room.

But going into the medical field you need to know that it is very competitive you have to know what you 're doing (Healthcare Career. (2009) para. 6). Schooling for a physical therapist assistant is 2 years which is an associate’s degree (Find Your Physical Therapy Degree Program (n.d.) para 2).
The profession I have chosen to pursue is that of a Physician Assistant. My reason for this selection is because it gives you the independency of a Physician while having somewhat less responsibilities. A Physician Assistant provides healthcare services typically performed by a physician, under the supervision of a physician. Some of these services include but are not limited to examining and treating patients, diagnosing illnesses and counseling patients. In some case physician assistants are also tasked to prescribe medicine to patients.
A Medical Administrative assistant is basically the heart of the medical profession. An Administrative MA performs general tasks needed to operate a DR. office such as handling appointments, recording patient’s information, answering the phone, and sometimes billing and accounting. Three specialties a medical assistant may choose to advance their career in are: Medical Assistant Instructor, Medical office manager, Lead medical assistant.
CMA’s start with a higher pay rate and more likely to receive better positions, shifts and stability in their jobs over a non-certified medical assistant or MA. The requirements for becoming a certified medical assistant are completing and graduating from a school. Pharmacology, medical terminology, patient relations, pathology, anatomy and physiology of the human body and coding are a few classes required to take a certification test. Every student must complete on the job training for a certain number of hours.
In my career path I chose three jobs an American Sign Language Interpreter, a Medical Assistant, and a Dialysis technician. I chose American Sign Language because as a healthcare worker I might need to talk to someone who can`t hear and needs to communicate to me. I chose a Medical Assistant because I figure that I needed to work somewhere after high school and my high school offer this as a certification so I decided I should do it to be able to work after high school. I also chose to be a Dialysis Technician because the summer of my sophomore year my dad wanted to try dialysis at home to see if that would help him any, so I went to the dialysis center in Westover Morgantown and got the training I needed.
A Medical Assistant is an allied health professional that supports the work of physicians and other health professionals, usually in a clinic setting. They are four easy steps to do to become a Medical Assistant. The very first step is to go to school. Most Medical Assistants go to school for two years, usually at a community college or vocational school. What I really like about this career is that Medical Assistants programs are both abundant and flexible, no matter what your situation is you can always find a school to suit your schedule.
Why you want to be a Medical Assistant? The three main reasons why I want to be a Medical Assistant, is to help my community, help my family in a financial way, and to learn something I’ve never learned it before. Throughout my journey, I had a goal to become an MA in the future. I didn’t even know that being an MA was an easy thing to do.
Many of the administrative assistant positions require a simple high school diploma or associate degree, which can be offered to him/her at a community college or a technical school. They also need knowledge with computer software such as microsoft office, reading and writing and the basics of accounting (“Administrative assistant courses”). Since most of their time they are reading emails, taking notes, or drafting messages that are sent out to many other professionals. For these types of certificates and degrees he/she can go to a community college that offers any type of business administration. To get a more secure eligibility, Assistants can try taking a extra computer software courses, or a grammar course since these are highly required.
The anesthesiologist assistant has a very large responsibility in caring for surgical patients. They see patients starting in pre-op and follow the patients course all the way through the Post Anesthesia Care Unit
Dental assistants support dental specialists or dentists in carrying out dental routine. A dental assistant is not the real dental operator that performs on patients but only an assistant to the licensed dentist. Aspirants of dental assisting career need to attend a dental assisting program at either college or tech school so as to acquire a diploma, certificate or degree. The duration of the program depends on the type of certification targeted. The program comprises both theory and practical.
After researching and thoroughly exploring the profession of physician assistant, I would still seriously consider becoming one. Even though there is little room for advancement beyond straying onto another career path, it seems like a very secure, appropriately salaried, interesting, and rewarding position in the medical field.
