I realized early in life that a man must work and provide for his family in ordered to be considered a real man. The three careers that I chose are a Probation Officer, Electrical Project Manager and Occupational Health and Safety Specialist. The careers that I selected will influence changes in people’s lives which is very important to me and will also help to provide a comfortable living for me and my family. I created a matrix chart to assist me in deciding which career best fits me according to multiple criteria; such as salary, benefits, location, growth and education. A mean probation officer would be recognize as one that constantly enforcing his or her authority, by implementing a lot of rules, giving multiple random checkups and drug screen. In contrast a more lenient Probation Officer would be considered more approachable, likable, minimum drug screens and house visits, great listening skills and a better communicator with the person on probation. According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics “an Occupational Health and Safety Specialist examines lighting, equipment, ventilation, and other conditions and materials in the workplace that could affect employee health, safety, comfort, and performance.” (Occupational Health and Safety Specialists Overview, 2015) Occupational Health and Safety Specialist focus on the one thing that I’m very passionate about which is saving lives and ensuring that everyone makes it back home to their families. With a median salary of $66,790 according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, an Occupational Health and Safety Specialist is a great career with many perks.
