When I was young, my grandfather shared with me the story of his challenging childhood and the estranged relationship he had with his family. An internal feud had cut him loose from his loved ones, leaving him to fend for himself very early in life. However, despite the tough hand life dealt him, he went on to become a successful businessman. Today, even after his passing, his life and experiences reinstate in me the belief that all dreams can come true when pursued with courage and determination. As he is my beacon of inspiration, I have made it my life’s objective to take his dreams and his business to newer heights.
My first step in this direction was to opt for a Bachelor of Business Administration in Entrepreneurship from NMIMS University, Mumbai. Subjects such as financial accounting, strategic management, and digital marketing have laid the foundation for me to build on my entrepreneurship knowledge base. Keen to delve deeper into the subject of business, I enrolled in a summer program in leadership at the University of California, Berkeley.

In fact, the experience of captaining my college basketball team has taught me the importance of team collaboration and I realize how crucial each player is to the ultimate success of the team. I have even had the honor of being part of the National basketball team representing my state, Uttarakhand. On the creative front, the pursuit of Indian classical dance involves grit and discipline. The last twelve years spent in mastering ‘Bharatnatyam’ has taught me to persevere even through physically challenging situations. Actively engaging in this cultural activity, currently, I am preparing for my Aaragetram, which is the final dance recital. My passions rejuvenate my mind and soul, and I’m certain that even at the university, I will find ample opportunity to continue my training in dance and
The past indicates to people what processes and pathways are successful, and it highlights what needs to be changed in the future to make society better. The Wesley’s showed to individuals that perseverance and determination along with a tight-knit family can make a business successful. In addition to this, the Point Washington Lumber Company has also proven that lumber is not the steadiest field of business to go into as the demands of the product fluctuate. In retrospect, individuals can take this example of the past as trying a field of business and watch its growth to see if the outcome is greater than the initial
Through hours of rehearsals and performances, I repeatedly noticed the similarities between dance styles. As a result, when I dance, I am able to merge my two cultures. I no longer feel torn. Today, I am confident in my identity as a Sri Lankan-American dancer, who is often mistaken for an
In many instances, the accomplishments of our business pioneers required the same dedication and determination that was required to march or boycott unfair treatment. What fueled these business titans? They all had one thing in common. They had big dreams.

Former U.S. National Security Advisor, Colin Powell, once said, “A dream doesn’t become reality through magic; it takes sweat, determination, and hard work”. Michael Jordan put in a great amount of effort and practice every day to become a famous basketball player. Tim Cook always worked harder than everyone else to become Apple’s CEO. Howard Schultz put in extra time and work to become the Starbucks CEO. Hard work and determination always lead to success.
Some dreams were not accomplished due to many reasons. “All dreams can come true, if we have the courage to pursue them.” This book is all about one’s personal determination and perseverance to create new and
People will never find their own triumphs without this key ingredient. John D. Rockefeller serves as the epitome of the American Dream. He lived an impoverished childhood, and by the age of sixteen he had began working as a bookkeeper. He worked doggedly to reach the point where he and his brother could open Standard Oil, a company that would hold a monopoly on the oil business for many years. Through the work put into starting and running the company, Rockefeller shaped the world to his wishes, and died with a personal net worth that accounted for “10% of the nation’s GDP”, which amounted to around 1.4 billion dollars (Mont).
“Power is at the center of dance's position in culture.” (14). Often times, dance is overlooked as a powerful form of expression. Choreographer, Alvin Ailey, has been greatly influential in both the dance world and society. He surpassed what he had hoped to accomplish by creating a unique style of movement, having a resounding impact on the world of modern dance, founding his dance company and accomplishing praiseworthy works that has inspired many to carry on his legacy.
Throughout my life, I strived to produce my greatest work possible and continue to do so today. I am in National Honor Society, I take Advanced placement, Honors, Advanced, and dual-enrollment courses at Penn State DuBois. I spent two summers volunteering at the local community theater kid’s summer workshop, and during the year I volunteer to usher, stage manage, and run lights at the theater. I began selling clothes on eBay at thirteen and by fifteen I created an online store through Etsy. I began working at the age of sixteen, and I currently work at T.J. Maxx.
In the summer of 2012, my sister and I joined the Saltillo High dance team. For Elizabeth and I, our first pair of shoes were ballet slippers, but our fellow team members had little to no knowledge of dance. Elizabeth and I felt a strong responsibility to use our talents to transform fourteen softball players into dancers. We learned very quickly the cost of being a leader- sacrifice. Elizabeth and I found ourselves searching for ways to improve the team, choreographing routines, and privately instructing stragglers.
My grandpa is a hard working guy and never gives up on anything he sets his mind to do. Moving to autonomy v. shame and doubt, I asked him what his greatest achievements were and he told me, “Being the director of Watkins Health Center I guess. I didn’t know where I was going to work so I went to business school to get a good job like that. Finishing my masters degree and that let me be qualified candidate for the job.”.
A young, 27-year-old, co-founder of the frozen smoothie kit company PACK’D, Luke Johnstone, was named young entrepreneur of the year in 2016 (“From Freezing Shed to Frozen Drinks Rise of the Smoothie Operator” par. 1). Like the Woodstock entrepreneurs, Johnstone quit his job to start his business, but he was not lucky enough for his dream to happen in just a short nine months like the other four men, his took two years of living in a shed in the back of his parents garden (“From Freezing Shed to Frozen Drinks Rise of the Smoothie Operator” par. 4). Another young entrepreneur, like the Woodstock entrepreneurs, is high school sophomore, Natalie Abbott. Abbott turned her 4-H project into her business, The West Hill Honey Company, where she sells honey and lip balm(“Chi-Hi Student Wins State Business Award” par. 1). Although Abbott is younger than the Woodstock entrepreneurs, they are alike because she did not work alone, she had help of her mother and father, just as the four men had the help of each other (“Chi-Hi Student Wins State Business Award” par. 1).
What does success mean to me? It means accomplishing things in life and reaching your goals. Everyone has a different view of what success actually is. Success also means setting a goal and reaching it in a time frame you set for yourself. For example I believe finishing college and gaining a career in a field you love is being successful because it is a goal that can be achieved.
