My father choose to be gone from December 13 until December 23 of 2014 that way he could be home for Christmas. Every night my father called and every night my mom and my three little sisters anxiously awaited by the phone in the kitchen along with my grandpa patiently waiting
It was 7:05am on a Thursday morning, when I had woken. I lied down in my bed gazing at the ceiling as my obnoxious alarmed screamed at me to get up and prepare for another day of school. I was beyond exhausted. It was November 17th. Thanksgiving break was just around the corner waiting for me to relax and get my mind off the prison we call school.

Literary Analysis of If on a Winter’s Night, a Traveler Chapter 2 of If on a Winter’s Night, a Traveler talks about the Reader’s reaction after finding out misprinted pages in the book that he is reading. In first two introductory paragraphs of chapter 2, the Reader’s lack of patience is developed by the author’s use of interplay through point of view, by hyperbole in the text, and by continuously evolving dictions and contrast of them, to show the Reader’s desire to read the complete book and bring back his pleasure of reading books. Calvino uses second person’s point of view to establish the relationship between the readers and the Reader. “You fling the book on the floor, you would hurl it out of the window, even out of the closed window, through the slats of the Venetian blinds.” Beginning from the first sentence of the chapter, the narrator uses the word “you” to convey the Reader’s actions and thoughts to the audience.
In 2008, right after Christmas my family had the special experience to go to the Cotton bowl for the Missouri Tigers football game. The Cotton Bowl is held in Dallas, Texas, back then Jerry's world (Dallas Cowboys stadium) was in the process of being built, so the big Mega scoreboard wasn’t there. My whole family came down to Columbia on Christmas Eve and we sang our Christmas songs together and celebrated Christmas together in my grandparents house. There was a bunch of us in that house, I remember walking down the stairs one morning and all my older cousins were back in the corner of the basement and they were all sleeping together in that space, I would crack up every time I saw that. This time after Christmas instead of all going back

In the short story “What happened during the Ice Storm?” showed a theme of maturation using literary elements, specifically irony, symbolism, and the application of onomatopoeias were used to support the theme of maturation. The literary element irony is mostly used in the short story “What happened during the Ice Storm?” originally the boys wanted to hurt the pheasants like the author says, “They stood over the pheasants, turning their own heads, looking at each other, each expecting the other to do something. To pounce on a pheasant, or to yell Bang!” This quote is important because it showed the boys original intent; which was to hurt or kill the pheasants.
Over the last couple of days in class we have discussed F. Scott Fitzgerald’s short story “Winter Dreams”. This short story explores several themes such as reality vs idealism and over expectations. These themes communicates through the use of various literary devices such as irony, symbolism, allegories and imagery. Through the use of these literary devices each character is brought to life and given its own type of personality. One quote that explores how the main character, Dexter, is given a unique personality states “The helpless ecstasy of losing himself in her charm was a powerful opiate rather than a tonic”.
“Winter Dreams” was published in 1926. Francis Scott Fitzgerald is most well-known for his novel “The Great Gatsby”. A common theme he is known for is the American dream and how it is corrupt. Fitzgerald enjoys writing about the poor boy chasing after the rich girl. This story is about a man named Dexter Green trying to achieve the American dream by obtaining the girl he adores.
All of us had fun, but we were exhausted. We went back to the rental and played some video games. Soon after my mom shouted, “Come eat dinner!” Then me and my sisters raced down the stairs and went right to the dining room. We ate to our fill and then we went right to
I was putting my Halloween costume on when I heard something moving in my closet. I turn to the closet door half dressed with a curious look on my face. In my mind, it being Halloween, I thought I was just hearing things or my little brother was playing a prank on me. I walk out the door to my room, down the stairs and as I was about to walk out the front door my father caught me, “Where are you going?” he asked “Out, it’s
When the wind begins to nip at your face, when the sky becomes a light grey, when all life seems to be hidden away, one knows that there is a high chance of snow. Plants seem to lose their color and become as barren as that of the sky. Animals and humans seem to burrow up from the cold weather outside. But one can only anticipate the white flurry substance coming from the sky. Snow is a magical thing.
Shortly after my sixteenth birthday, something terrible happened to me. But, first let's start at the beginning. When I was five years old my parents got me the best gift a little girl could ever ask for, a puppy. My dad came into the house with what I thought was a black jacket in his arms. I was wrong, after he came into the kitchen the “jacket” popped it’s little head up, it wasn’t a jacket, it was a puppy.
On Christmas morning, my sister always wakes me up. Her anticipation of the day keeps her from snoozing, so she is always the first to rise. We are not allowed to come downstairs until my parents give us the “ok.” They would give us permission to come downstairs as soon as they were prepared with their recording devices and a cup of coffee. After given the clear, my sister and I would run downstairs to the living room to see what gifts Santa had left us.
Summers have an air of relaxation to them for most people, but for me I can barely find a moment's rest. Because I work in the hospitality industry, summer is the busiest time of the year. My apartment is a 3 minute walk from the beach and yet I only rarely get to enjoy it. Although there are days, there are precious days, when I can just stop and smell the ocean. Where I can just sit there all day, seemingly without a care in the world.
