I could see the country hills go by out the window as the car bounced across the uneven road. My family and I were heading towards the Virginia border to finally meet our new family member. Next to me was a crate and a bright pink collar ready for when we were finally able to take her home with us. This was last summer when we finally made the hard decision to get a Corgi puppy, who we named Roxy, and is one of the biggest and best changes to my life.
When we finally got to the farm called “Farm Pups” we met with the owner and saw Roxy’s parents who were, like her, Pembroke Welsh Corgis. The mother had the common coloring while the dad was Merle (gray and white with black spots and blue eyes.)
When we went inside my mom immediately exclaimed

For a long time we did not have the responsibility of supervising a pet and could be out of the house for as long as we wanted without worrying about a pet at home. I love the excitement and playfulness in her when playing fetch and tug-of-war, but had difficult training somewhat at first because of the stubbornness and the herding aspect bred into Corgis. Going on walks at first were difficult since through her stubbornness she lay on the sidewalk often not wanting to move (probably because of the summer heat) and tried to chew many things in the house she wasn’t supposed to. Because of this we thought that we would hear howling the whole night while she was in her crate, but to our surprise she didn’t make a sound once. What we also found unexpected was the amount of shedding that she does on a daily basis which, although is part of the routine now, creates quite a big clump in the end! A few weeks later after she had all of her shots taken we took her to puppy school across from my neighborhood. The four weekly trips were a big help with training her to behave, and was a great experience for her as she got to meet many other dogs, including another Roxy. My family and I could begin to see her adjusting and fitting in with us as she knew the routine of each day including when we go on walks, when we eat, and when she …show more content…
She was able to meet lots of people who wanted to say hello to her and other dogs of many breeds. One would think that she still had tons of energy left after our walks there, but when we get back into the car she falls asleep right away in her crate. Going on these trips is one of the several reasons why we got a dog since not only is it a motivation to get exercise it is also creates great family experiences.
This January along with blueberries, cheese, stuffed toys and daily walks we found a new favorite thing of hers: snow. Because of her short legs she gleefully hopped through the snow and even ate some of it out of curiosity. What was once a perfectly flat and undisturbed yard of snow became a playground for one very excited puppy! It is amazing how she has grown so much after the seven months we’ve had her so
Most of dog owners from the Oakland community come to the Alameda Dog Park to relax and have a good time after a long stressful week of work. “Sometimes I come from school all tired and stressed out. When that happens I like to spend time with my dog named
We indirectly taught her to defend herself from us. This is why it seems she has such a ‘bad attitude. I was teaching my little sister that she wasn’t ‘right’ just because she was a different color than
For the fact that I did not have to worry about my dog being bound up with energy. We would get home and my dog would be worn out and content and not cause any disfunction in the house. Bringing me to my next point, in the second article the person says that they would have to worry about "loud barking dogs and yelling owners disturbing the nearby residents. ", if you have a good dog, which most people who take their dogs out to a park or public area do... there wouldn't be much of a problem. Because the more you take them out the more obedient they seem to get.
With leash in hand, my dog Bandit and I bolted to the front of the stage, dumbfounded by the immense honor. After nine years of attending the Colorado State Fair Dog Trials as a dynamic duo, ending our showing days together as a State Fair obedience champion resembled the bittersweet Bandit deserved as he entered retirement. His loyalty, determination, and enthusiasm allowed him to overcome every obstacle in his way, and on this day, he overcame the toughest obstacles of all: the high jump and the broad jump. My family adopted Bandit, an Australian Shepherd/Sheltie mix, when he turned nine weeks old.
Life in our house can be compared to a demolition derby with no brakes on or the energizer bunny when the fun keeps going on and on and on. What you see is what you get, a cuddly smooth coat or a wiry and furry ruff coat little terrier who will be devoted to his master until the end of his days. They are people loving dogs who are not content to live solely with another dog as a companion. They adore feeling the warmth of a hand gently stroking their coast and they will gladly sit still for a prolonged and heavenly massage every day. The only thing better than one Jack Russell is two, three, or four which more than doubles the entertainment full of nonstop action of innumerable proportion.
Corgis, Pomeranians, Saint Bernards, and Labrador Retrievers. What do all of these furry friends have in common? They can all be a part of a group known as therapy dogs. Therapy dogs are specially trained dogs who can help a variety of people in different settings. Imagine one day you are in a crowded area and all of a sudden you can't breath and are panicking because there are so many people around you.
When I woke up one warm morning, I got up and let my hazel colored dog, Bodee outside as I usually do. When I let him inside I always give him a treat. I walked to the treat jar with Bodee following me, drooling for his treat. When I grabbed a treat, he instantly sat down anticipating the moment I throw the treat.
She was very active in active in her activities. She loved running around when we were playing tag. During tag, she tried running away from me in adventurous methods such as climbing or jumping over the
Beary White was given to Brayden before she was even born. My in-laws got beary for her and she has loved that thing since day one. Beary and Purpa are her two loveys of choice and will probably always be. Beary is the only lovey allowed to go to school. She gets to sleep with him at nap time and he has always calmed her down.
expected. The noticeable improvements Evan made after visiting with the dogs, backed up by the facts I found, made it very clear that the therapy dogs could be attributed to both the mental and physical changes in Evan’s health. While at first I wanted to learn whether or not different breeds of dogs or the age of the therapy dog made a difference in the effects it had on a patient’s health, I found that those factors were largely inconsequential in the bigger picture. I didn’t observe that either factors made an impact and Evan didn’t report that he preferred any one breed or age of dog over the other.
Praise good behavior, but don’t penalize bad behavior and accidents. While you 're training, don’t worry if there are setbacks. As long as you continue a management program that includes taking puppy out at the first sign he needs to go and offering him rewards,
She is confident with her sits and downs, goes to the bathroom much less frequently in the house, and chews on her toys more than carpets. She is able to hold her pee in overnight now. We haven 't had an accident in the crate in days. Her walks have also improved; she stops much less than she used to. We still haven 't started the official classes, but she is still learning and improving a lot.
Golden Retrievers are very intelligent dogs. Retrievers need toys that involve problem solving. They need something to keep them active while you are not there. If you are gone for too long during the day, then it is best for you to find a sitter for your dog. It is essential as I said earlier to show a golden retriever love.
My experience as a reader isn 't as extraordinary as many, but I love to read. I had some great teachers throughout my education that taught me to enjoy reading challenge oneself and not be intimidated by it. Through college and today I do not have much time to read, other than school books speech, education ,and reading. Those are the sweet books I know read.
“We’re always looking for ways for our inmates to give back to society, and thousands of greyhounds are put down every year.” So Booher contacted Deborah Sanford of TLC Greyhound Adoption, and soon greyhounds were frolicking with inmates in the recreation yard and sleeping in cells. Each hound has a primary and a secondary handler, who teach the dog house manners and basic obedience. Most hounds leave the program after six to eight weeks knowing how to walk nicely on a lead and respond to commands such as sit, stay, down and come. Recently the Hutchinson facility expanded its animal welfare programs to include gentling and socializing wild horses in conjunction with the Bureau of Land Management’s (BLM) National Wild Horse and Burro Program.
