Nature is known to be the phenomena of the physical world collectively, including plants animals, landscape and other features and products of the earth. This essay shows how the two poems, “A Different History” and “Horses” allow the reader to view nature in a new light. Edwin Muir (1887-1859) born in the Orkney Islands was a Scottish poet, novelist and a critic of the mid twentieth century; he wrote the poem called Horses. At the age of 14 Edwin Muir moved to Glasgow when his father lost his farm in his home town called Deerness. The family moved to Glasgow and Edwin Munir did not like the place. Less than a year later he lost his whole family and then he lived a depressing childhood by working in factories and offices. A Different History has been written by Sujata Bhatt. She is an Indian poet; her family moved to the USA as she studied at the University of Lowa. She has won many poetry and other recognition awards worldwide. A Different History by Sujata Bhatt is an autobiographical poem and is an expression of the Indian heritage compared to the English speaking world that she lived in. A Different History makes the reader view nature in a new light by relating language and literature to the Greek and Hindu gods. Stanza one begins by transplanting the Greek god of nature called Pan into India. She links the Greek god of nature and fauna to the animal related gods in Hinduism and how the gods were free to move in disguise as various animals. The first stanza is an appreciation of the language and literature which indicates how important it is to venerate the books and the trees which they came from.
