A Good Man is Hard to Find was written by Flannery O’Connor in 1955. The short story was extremely well written. The grandmother in the story wanted the family to travel to Tennessee for vacation but her son wanted to travel to Florida. She explains to her son that a criminal is on the loose and is headed towards Florida. She insisted that the family goes nowhere near Florida. However, her son doesn’t listen and decides to still take the trip to Florida with the family and things got crazy for them. A Good Man is Hard to find shows O’Connor’s impressive skills as a writer because of the characterization he used, the structure of the story and the overall plot of the story.

The structure of the story was well organized. The plot keeps developing throughout the whole story. Every little detail was important to what was going on. The story just flowed. The sequence wasn’t confusing or all over the place. While reading about the flashback it didn’t confuse me, it was told at the right time. It was important to bring up the flashback because that caused the story to take its turn. Reading the story wasn’t overwhelming and it was a good length. O’Connor’s timing was feasible.
A Good Man is Hard to Find had an original plot. I never read about anything like this short story. It wasn’t easy to just guess what would happen next. The problem wasn’t solved how I thought it would be and the ending didn’t go how I pictured. I never got confused with the plot. In the ending, I wanted to understand why The Misfit did what he did. The scenes of the story followed the plot. O’Connor didn’t mention any irrelevant information pertaining to the plot.
I enjoyed reading this story. The author did a great job with the characterization, structure and the plot of the story. O’Connor showed readers how the world is changing and how it’s changing. The descriptions were clear and I didn’t have to think too much. I would recommend this story to fellow peers and I wouldn’t hesitate to read it
