In English 112 I wrote a variety of pieces, including a multigenre paper on handedness, a literary analysis on conflict in Hamlet, and an argumentative paper as well as a summary and response paper on higher education. I learned numerous different things from each of these papers. This letter will discuss each paper specifically, among other pieces I included in my portfolio. One of these additional works is my IB Biology Internal Assessment. I also put multiple "Helpful Handouts" in my portfolio and I am going to discuss a few of them and how I incorporated them into my writing. In my opinion, my literary analysis paper is the best paper I have written. I think this because my thesis statement is so solid and just about everything I discussed in my paper related back to my thesis. It is organized well and I set this up by explaining what I was going to talk about in the rest of my paper in my introduction paragraph. I planned this paper more than I have previous paper so I made sure I discussed everything I wanted to and I was able to structure it how I wanted to. However, to improve my essay I could include more analysis. A weakness of my essay is in a few of my paragraphs I did not explicitly detail some of the conflicts occurring, so it might have been hard for readers to make the connections I want them to. I can improve this in future papers by being more detailed so readers do not get confused. Furthermore, I could use more evidence and quotes from the play specifically to support my claims about the plot. The papers I wrote about higher education discussed how students can get the most out of their pricey college education and how it is on the students, the professors, and the institutions to ensure that graduates are well-prepared for their futures. I argued in my argumentative paper and my summary and response paper that students must truly use their minds and take initiative. Also, one of my points was that professors should engage all students and go the extra mile when necessary and colleges should concentrate most on undergraduate training. Overall, I believe that the discussion of higher education is actually addressing the greater matter of universities needing to focus most on doing one thing best: challenging the minds of young adults so students can get the most out of their college education. The authors do a fantastic job of presenting these opinions fairly. The authors always present data or figures supporting college degree benefits. They also never undermine the quality or credibility of the data. However, the authors do a poor job of reacting to the opposing evidence. The authors usually react by stating that “for a given individual, the benefits [of going to college] may not outweigh the costs” (212).
Your essay is very clear for main idea. I cannot any points that you rambled off. I could not find what you likes and does not like…. I think you need to think about this when you revise!
Everyone needs to struggle in order to preform better. Writing has always been a strength of mine, but I found it a challenge to move from the high school, six-paragraph essay format that I had grown accustomed to. Throught the course of this semester, I was able to acquire many different skills in ENG 1101 that have helped me transition into more complex writing. These include various writing techniques, MLA formatting, writing for purpose, convincing my arguments and finding and properly using sources. The portfolio I have submitted is comprised of three works of writing that I completed for ENG 1101 over the last three months.
The Main argument the author makes is that both teachers and parents are not taking action. The teachers seem to feel sorry for their students and end up passing them, instead of using tools of negative reinforcement such as failure to determine whether the student should graduate. The parents are not supporting the teachers and may end up doing the work for their kids. The one contradiction I see is on the tenth paragraph where she talks about the students she sees at night living a hard life of unemployment, chemical dependencies, abusive relationships
Additionally, I now see where I can make improvements in my writing to become a more refined college level writer and use what I learn here to help me with various degrees of my life outside of the classroom. For this portfolio, I revised the first essay we did in the class, the "Summary and Response" essay. Furthermore, this essay a mere five pages seems like it should have been so easy, but then it was most challenging.
I took the time to write out an outline for this essay to help manage the chaos that is my writing, unlike my other essays for the course. As I said before, I have learned to question the structure of my paragraphs. For example: when I was revising the Composing Process essay, I noticed that a set of paragraphs could be rearranged and partially rewritten to improve the structure and make the essay flow better. However, I would argue that my Justification video assignment demonstrates my assertion better than my revised essays. From the beginning, I laid out a clear path that my Justification video needed to follow.
Shakespeare’s play, Hamlet, Prince of Denmark, centers around Hamlet’s contemplation of killing his uncle in order to avenge his father’s death. His decisions and values determine his fate. However, Hamlet’s intended action to avenge his father’s death is continuously postponed due to his moral dilemma. However, this moral dilemma causes him to make the decisions he does, and therefore, demonstrates the theme of his uncertainty versus his faith. Not only does faith stop him from taking alternative routes to achieve his goal, but his uncertainty causes him to either delay his revenge or make the wrong decisions.

This time I have connected the paragraphs together. I had a better thesis statement. I had good topic sentences in each paragraph. The topic sentences were connected to the thesis. I had also used quotes better after using quotes I have cited them properly and explained the quote better.

ENG-122 Reflective Essay My writing process has changed tremendously over the course of this class. I feel more accomplished, confident and I feel sometimes that my ideas and thoughts just come in to my mind out of nowhere and I start writing about anything now. I pay attention to my punctuation and grammar more as I have polished them more now, not only when I write but then others write as well. I am constantly looking for errors and I highly think this is helping me a lot in my career.
