Soto is referring to her wanting to feel all mature and grow up sooner than she wants to. People with permits include the workers that leave the community in order to gain materials, communicate with the leaders of other communities, and do many other tasks. In the mornings, both men and women go to work and children go to school. All Children attend school for 8 hours a day where they take classes on the history of the community, the faith of the community, and at a certain age, a class that caters to a specific field of work that they are interested in. Growing up in Capital Heights, Maryland was never easy. At the time the crime in that City was to me, at its peak, there were shootings, robbing’s, and bad influences around every corner. Every day I got up early and walked out my little house sitting firmly on the hill, down the street to John Edgar Howard Elementary, the school I attended at the time. Yes, the neighborhood was rough, but I was fortunate enough to have a strong support system. My Grandmother made sure to wake me up every morning to haul me of to school where I would meet my loving, devoted teachers and coaches.

I remember hearing the news that Saturday morning at my high school. I was attending a mandatory rehearsal that day and was unable to watch the first session of conference. When word got out at rehearsal I remember many of my female classmates jumping up and down and bursting into tears. I will be completely honest...though I was absolutely thrilled for everyone around me, no part of me wanted to jump up and down or cry. These girls dreamed of serving a mission and that opportunity was now within reach.

Mark always was the one to figure out all the supplies we needed to buy. Adhesive, black hair spray, the clippers,brushes, halters, and all different show supplies.
