Lord Krishna the great Avatar- the Self Realized being who has attained the status of Brahman- the most important character in Bhagavad Geetha Lord Krishna was born in a prison as the son of Devaki, the cousin of King Kamsa and Vasudeva who belonged to the Vrishsni clan of Yadu dynasty. Kamsa imprisoned Devaki and her husband Vasudeva as soon as they got married, as a voice from the Space told him that the eighth child of Devaki would kill him. Fearing this prophecy Kamsa the evil minded one who became the King of Mathura after imprisoning his own father Ugrasena took out his sword to kill Devaki then and there. So he invited Lord Krishna to Mathura for participating in a Yaga (Vedic Sacrifice) that he had arranged. Lord Krishna went there along with his brother Balarama. There Kamsa arranged for a great wrestling and there Lord Krishna killed the elephant by name Kuvalayapeda that was brought to trample upon Him. He performed many divine miracles even while going around the city of Mathura along with His brother. After this incident Kamsa became quite nervous and panicky and he began to utter improper and sinful words against all Yadavas particularly, Nandagopa, Vasudeva, Balarama and also against Lord Krishna. At this Lord Krishna pounced upon Kamsa and killed him in front of all the onlookers. After killing him He released his parents and his grandfather Ugrasena from the prisons. He requested Ugrasena to rule over the kingdom of Mathura as before. Then Lord Krishna and Balarama went to the hermitage of sage Santhipini. There they were taught Vedas, Upanishads, the art of fighting, the rules of governing and so on. After He and Balarama completed their learning there, he again performed a miracle as a Guru Dakshina (Making some gift by the disciple to the teacher at the end of the period of his learning to show his gratitude for the knowledge that the teacher imparted to the disciple) to his teacher by bringing back his Teacher’s son who was supposed to have been kidnapped by a demon and whose whereabouts was not known. Then Lord Krishna went to Mathura. It was there that he came to know through His parents, all about his cousins the Pandavas who were the sons of Kunthi who was the sister of Vasudeva, Lord Krishna’s father. From then onwards the Pandavas were always well protected by Lord Krishna and He and Arjuna the third among the Pandavas who was of the same age as Lord Krishna became great friends.
