When authors write stories, they put a lot of thought into their story. They used different techniques to make the story more interesting. The techniques are what build the story. In the short stories “The Boar Hunt,” by José Vasconcelos and “A Sound of Thunder,” by Ray Bradbury, the authors uses characterization, imagery, and suspense to build their story.
The authors uses characterization to build information about the characters. In “The Boar Hunt,” Vasconcelos started the men out as antagonists. He wrote “Not being Englishmen, we did not play cards” (Vasconcelos 157). This puts an impression out that they are rude people. In “A Sound of Thunder,” Bradbury build Eckels character when the time machine took off. “Eckels swayed on the padded seat, his face pale, and his jaw stiff,” (Bradbury 318). This tells you that Eckels was nervous but at the same time he was being smart about going on the hunt in the first place. These two authors uses characterization in different ways. They are alike in many ways as well; one way they are similar is the fact that

In “The Boar Hunt,” Vasconcelos uses imagery at the point where the boars started digging at the ground under them. Vasconcelos mentioned, “The boars were painstakingly continuing the work which they had engaged in throughout the entire night” (Vasconcelos 161). In “A Sound of Thunder” Bradbury used imagery in describing the Tyrannosaurus rex. He used a lot of detail to describe the T-rex. “It towered thirty feet above half of the trees, a great evil god, folding its delicate watchmaker’s claws close to its oily reptilian chest,” (Bradbury 321). Just by this one sentence, you already have a visual of what the T-rex looks like. The authors obviously have different ways to create an image in your head. They both put effort in describing the animals in detail, they put the picture of the animal and the animal actions in your

Fahrenheit 451 written by Ray Bradbury has a very deep and dark theme and feel to it. Bradbury excellently uses multiple stylistic devices to manipulate the reader into feeling and thinking various things. To begin with, due to the descriptive nature of the words Bradbury uses to make the story come to life, there are a plethora of mental images that develop throughout the novel. From the very first page all the way to the very last, the numerous stylistic devices and descriptive words work hand in hand to create very detailed mental images in the reader’s mind.
Did you know that Ernest Gaines comes from a plantation in southern Louisiana? “He was part of a rural, black bilingual oral culture” (Laney 1974:3). People would tell stories in the camp fire at night and that is how he became a storyteller. A good book entertains the reader. An excellent book enlightens and entertains the reader.
“The Veldt” by Ray Bradbury, “Good Country People” by Flannery O'Connor, and “The Lottery” by Shirley Jackson all have very strong themes that depict a darker side of human nature. All are very different in plot, but are connected through their endings. They all start with seemingly normal characters who end up doing things that would not have been predicted. In “The Veldt” it shows children revolting against their parents. “The Lottery” shows a whole community turning against one person.
Truman Capote's "A Christmas Memory," an autobiographical account of an experience from the past, focuses on his fond memories of Christmases. With "his friend," an elderly cousin named Sook Faulk, Truman made fruitcakes for people who had been charitable to them throughout the year. Imagery is writing where the five senses are evoked, but not all at once. The five senses are sight, smell, hearing, taste, and touch. Imagery was used throughout the whole story, for example there is sensory image when Buddy and his cousin return they hear, “Craarackle!
Imagery allows a reader to imagine the events of a story within their mind through mental images. Imagery can describe how something looks, a sound, a feeling, a taste, or a smell. Imagery is especially important when the author is describing a character or a setting. The short story The Man In The Black Suit by Stephen King has several excellent examples of imagery.
There are many ways an author can convey the message of any story. Elements such as the Plot, Conflict, Character/Characterization, Setting, Symbolism, Narration, and Imagery are used in these ways. For example, in the In the story "Harrison Bergeron", the author Kurt Vonnegut uses the characterization, and the conflict to communicate the message to the reader that Uniformity and strict laws lead to a loss of personal freedom and individuality. Vonnegut uses the element of characterization.
In the story “The Lightning Thief”, Rick Riordan uses imagery to paint clear pictures of the characters and places. He describes his characters to the point where you can picture what they look like, sound like, and even act like. Riordan uses dialogue to show the interaction in between the characters. His exemplary usage of dialogue puts a fun new perspective on the characters communication. Lastly but most importantly he uses an exciting tone to keep the reader interested.
“A green lovely forest, a lovely river, a purple mountain, high voices singing, and Rima” (Bradbury 5). This quote shows the extreme change between the hot African veldt, and the mysterious imaginary forest of love and paradise. Imagery is used many times in the story for the same purpose. “The lions on three sides of them, in the yellow veldt grass, padding through the dry straw, rumbling and roaring in their throats” (Bradbury 10) captures the suspense the characters feel and giving it to the reader to make the story more exciting. Imagery is used repetitively to keep giving the senses and suspense to make the story feel real.
The Tragedy of a Lesson Thesis Statement: In “A Sound of Thunder,” by Ray Bradbury, the setting, situational irony and internal conflict depict that little things in your present life can make a very big difference in the future. I. Introduction: The main character Eckels goes on a hunting trip to shoot a Tyrannosaurus Rex with Time Safari Inc. The trip takes them back in time where the dinosaurs once ruled the world.
Introduction Authors use characterization to give the reader better understanding of what the character is like. In "Lamb to the Slaughter" a series of Literary Devices are used to develop main characters and their feelings about each other. Roald Dahl in "Lamb to the Slaughter" uses conflict, imagery, and direct characterization to develop the love Mary has for her husband so that the reader understands how one thing can change a person but deep down they're still the same person. Paragraph 1 Dahl uses conflict to develop Mary's feelings for her husband.
The theme of Ray Bradbury's "A Sound of Thunder" is enhanced by his use of foreshadowing throughout the story. The story follows a man named Eckles on his journey to the past on a hunt for a real dinosaur. As the events in the past unfold, Eckles ultimately alters the future forever by taking a small step off the Path. The path is there to make sure the time travelers do not affect the future. Unfortunately, Eckles learns the true consequences of his actions when he returns to a changed future.
The Foundation of a Story In “A Sound of Thunder” by Ray Bradbury, the setting is slightly peculiar. The story takes place in the future and the past. It begins and ends in the year 2055 at a time travel hunting business, however, the majority of the story takes place millions of years before, during the time of the dinosaurs. Throughout the story, the setting sets the tone, motivates the characters actions, and leads to the theme.
In “The Destructors” by Graham Greene, characterization is used to make the story more believable and help the reader relate with the characters. Greene did a good job giving the characters specific traits to help the reader understand their actions throughout the story. In this essay I will talk about his use of characterization. In the beginning of the story Blackie is the leader of the gang and but only because no one has really challenged his position.
The descriptive personification really uses imagery to get our minds thinking. As well as that, it really demonstrates imagery of the elephant’s trunks raising
