The abandonment of infants is worldwide. In 2000, Dailard explained how the department of Health and Human Services conducted an informal research based off articles in 1991 and 1998 on abandoned infants. Evidence suggested that the number of abandoned infants and death rate had increased between 1991 and 1998. In 1991, sixty-five infants were abandoned, and eight were found dead. Comparatively, in 1998, one hundred and five infants were abandoned, and thirty-three were found dead (p.1). In addition, Dailard (2000) stated that in 1998, there were 31,000 abandoned infants left in a hospital after delivery (p.1).
