Within the context of the story readers are able to witness Maggie Carlton and West Ashby’s characters develop as they meet in times of trouble. Maggie had decided to go mute when she witnessed her father murder her mother. West, who had always been the popular, cocky, jock, was facing the near death of his father at home. Neither of them had any idea that their first encounter would change both of their lives forever. “She’d entered my life when I needed her most. I’d never expected this. Or her. But now that I had her, I wasn’t sure how I’d made it this long without her” (243). The first time they crossed paths Maggie saw something deep within West that no one had ever noticed before. When she reached out to him she was able to help him cope with his problems. At the same time West was able to help her start speaking again while pulling her out of the dark. Maggie had never been close to anyone …show more content…
The one theme readers would find most important is that a relationship is not just about the fun, but it is about how that other person makes you better. “Until I found somebody who needed me. And I realized the only person I wanted to be great for was her” (328). West had always wanted to pursue a career in football because that was what he and his father had enjoyed together. However, after he met Maggie he realized that his motives had changed. He wanted to be the best he could possibly be to make her proud. Whenever West was around Maggie, she would always make sure he was at his best and he never got emotionally lost. Even though Maggie would help keep West in check, he still tried his hardest to help her as well. West helped Maggie confront the demons she had held captive for years. He helped her open up again. The most important thing readers will take away from this book is how a real relationship makes both people better, and how it is truly
The theme in this novel is to be honest and be kind to others. Don't let things that people say hurt you and don't let people bring you down. Turner and Lizzie are good examples of being kind and nice. This novel is a great example of how people can be treated and how people shouldn’t be treated.
The main plot archetype in A Little Romance is “The Quest”. One reason why the plot archetype is “The Quest” is because the plot of Lauren and Daniel fulfilling their goal directly imitates the archetype. Sparked by the incident of Julius telling Lauren and Daniel about the legend of kissing under the Bridge of Sighs, Lauren and Daniel’s quest is to kiss follow the legend in order to seal their love forever. Two lessons were taught in A Little Romance: the importance of keeping love alive and determination in spite of all odds.
The two of them travel everywhere in a glossy, red convertible they bought together during the summer. The red convertible shows the unique connection they have together. As time passes, their relationship quality becomes damaged because of a series of factors, including a war Henry was sent off to. In a person’s life, certain aspects can be a trigger for life altering changes. Henry and Lyman’s relationship experiences dramatic changes from buying a convertible and taking it on road trips, to Henry becoming a unfamiliar face to his family.
That is the way my Maggie walks." From the beginning we see Maggie as this dimwit child sheltered off from the world, hidden away under her mother 's arm. Despite her weakness, Maggie does have some strengths. She has never been to school to have a formal education, but she is a caring young girl and she has also learned how to quilt which is a strong traditional factor that connects her with

To me the best theme in the story is friendship. I believe that every person needs to show friendship to
This chapter takes place at Sam W. Westing 's will. We had found out that he was murdered by one of the characters... The Mistake. We found out that Grace Wexler is Sam Westng 's niece. She was shocked in amazement.
In general I think people could take a lot of things out of this book. I think that because people could learn how to support and persevere other people. Trust would be the next thing that people should take out of this book because the characters in this book show how to trust another person without even seeing the person before. Overall the book has taught me alot of things also eg; to trust my surroundings and to take risks more.
On page 16, the reader begins to see the act of compromise between the two characters. Each character was willing to give up or change something in their life in order to please their significant other. For example, one of the characters was willing to give up a deodorant brand because their significant other described them as smelling like whole foods. In return, their significant other was willing to cover their toes whenever around the other character simply because they hated their toe hair. Neither character was selfish in the idea of making a simple change to satisfy each other.
Characters Help Establish a Theme Characters are used to help develop a theme and create a more relatable story. In the book, “Out of the Dust” by Karen Hesse, Billie Jo and her father stay strong through the dust bowl and the death of their family members. Billie Jo and daddy, from “Out of the Dust”, helped to develop the theme that when you’re at the end of the rope, tie a knot and hold on because of how they persevere through their hardships. Daddy shows persistence in how he never lets his sadness overcome him. First, even though his wife was gone, he never stopped digging the pond.
In conclusion,Alice Walker used two characters to carry out a deeper meaning of a short story. It showed similarities and differences to my family, and the family in “Everyday use”. Also it show how maggie and Dee are two very different characters. Maggie and Dee didn 't share a bond with each other throughout their, but I am glad my brothers and I
Walker introduces Maggie as a character who feels ashamed of her body because of the scars she has on both her legs and arms. The low self-esteem causes Maggie to show this concept through her actions, like the way she walks or stands. According to Walker’s story, the narrator describes Maggie’s actions as the following, “[…] perhaps a dog run over by some careless person rich enough to own a car, sidle up to someone who is
At the point in the novella when Maggie is kicked out by her mother and brother, she “began to tremble” at the fact that her mother said to her, “Go t’ hell an’ good riddance” (Crane 726). When Maggie was kicked out of her house, she had nothing. She was scared, poor, and alone. The only thing she had to go to was prostitution. Maggie began to notice that she was following the footsteps of her mother and she knew that if she continued on with her life, it may not get any better.
All the themes of the novel link together, as family and friends resolve Taylors story arc by giving her a place to belong. Ultimately, the themes of the novel are used in such a way that allows readers to gain a better understanding of the characters.
