The first two acts of the play show how Abigail manipulates others and lies to prevent getting in trouble for what she did. In the first half of the play Abigail lies and threatens others to keep from getting in trouble when her uncle catches her and other girls dancing in the forest. Abigail was caught doing something strictly forbidden in her society and is scared that Betty, Abigail’s cousin, may tell on her and hit Betty. The text states, “Betty, you will never say that again! You will never-’ Smashes her across the face: ‘Shut it!
The reason the witch trials began in the first place was because of the lie she told about being in the woods. She didn’t want to tell the truth about what happened in the woods to the adults because she wanted to protect herself. She manipulated the young girls to lie and say they were only dancing, “And mark this. Let either of you breathe a word, or the edge of a word, about the other things, and I will come to you in the black of some terrible night and I will bring a pointy reckoning that will shudder you”(Miller).
(act 3) Abby is a killer. She killed a lot of people during the salem witch trials including John Procter. Finally Abby is a liar. Abby lies many times in the play. One of those times is when Abby tells her uncle, Parris, that she was just dancing when she really was practicing witchcraft.
Abigail hates John’s wife, Elizebeth Proctor. So in the woods with al the other young women in the town were joking around and messing around saying random fake chants to the sprits to kill Elizebeth Proctor, so she could be with John. Lust and jealousy is which sparked this
Out of all the characters in the book, there are many that contributed to the hysteria of the witch trials, however, of these characters Abigail Williams contributed the most. In the beginning of the play, we see Abigail and a collection of other girls dancing and making a charm in the woods. Abigail made this charm in order to kill Mr.Proctor 's wife. If Abigail wasn 't so crazy in love with John this scene in the woods probably wouldn 't have taken place. Therefor, Parris would have never caught the girls and there wouldn’t be rumours of witchcraft.
She gets accused for forbidden crime witchcraft. She about to be put in jail accused of practicing witchcraft. Abigail blamed her for stabbing a needle in her, using her witch powers. Mary Warren states that Elizabeth was accused, but she defended Elizabeth and the court dismissed the accusation. Elizabeth thinks that Abigail wants to kill her for John because Abigail wants to take her place as his wife.
Abigail Williams is a bad person who has made good decisions. Abigail lies right to her uncle at the beginning about dancing in the forest. Also she had drank blood to kill John Proctors wife, Elizabeth Proctor. Commit to adultery with John. She is a good person also but her past affected her in many ways.
When Abby had to confess due to being caught in the woods she didn't want people to know about their affair. Abby said "She is blackening my name in the village! She is telling lies about me! She is a cold, sniveling woman, and you bend to her! Let her turn you like a—" to John and the court.
Johns biggest flaw that lead to his demise was his love for Abigail Williams. His love for Abigail Williams created Abigail’s jealousy of Elizabeth, which starts off the entire witch hunt. When the play opens, the audience finds out that Abigail Williams and John Proctor had a secret affair. Abigail still loves john even though he is married to she tries to drink a spell to kill John’s wife, Elizabeth. The town finds out about the witchcraft that went on in the woods and this event starts mass hysteria.
As Abagail talks to her uncle about what happened that night in the woods she says “we did dance, Betty was frightened and fainted” (miller 10). Abagail and the rest of the girls were dancing and casting spells and she’s trying to cover it up and lie to her uncle and tell him they were only dancing because that’s the only part he seen. Towards the end of the book when the hanging and blaming starts and the town finds out that her and john proctor has had an affair before, they realize all of the non-sense is Abagail’s fault just because she wants john.as Hathorne and parris has a conversation, Hathorne says to parris “she has robbed you? Parris responds and says thirty-one pound is gone, I am penniless” (miller 132). As there talking about Abagail running away and steeling her uncles own money, it shows how mendacity she really is.
