Mother Teresa once said “If a mother can kill her own child - what is left for me to kill you and you to kill me - there is nothing between.” Abortion is the termination of a pregnancy by the removal or expulsion of an embryo or fetus from the uterus, resulting in or caused by its death. Abortion has become a common practice among women nowadays. Since a sexual relation has lost its meaning, unmarried couples are practicing it as well causing unwanted pregnancies. Other causes, such as rape, have led to surprising pregnancies that would lead to abortions. Abortion is considered as a sinful thing in different point of views, including religion. Still, abortion should be considered sometimes since there are downsides to wanted or unwanted pregnancies.…show more content…
To begin with, it affects the mother psychologically. To elaborate, a study by Freeman shows that thirty seven percent of women never considered abortion before they got pregnant. The studies also show that the women considering abortion go through stress while taking the decision. After the women abort, most of them show depression or a certain period of anxiety and guilt. Among these are long-term grief reactions, anger, sexual dysfunction, flashbacks, memory repression, suicidal ideas, and difficulty keeping close relationships. Studies also show that the women that are most likely to have the negative psychological side effects after abortion are young at age, single, or had medical issues. Another thing that occurs when a woman aborts are physical affects. During abortion, the carrier losing a great amount of blood. In addition, the instruments that are used for the process might damage the uterus or cause internal bleeding in the organs. Studies show that if a woman aborts her first pregnancy, it might cause an interruption in the growth of her breast and might as well put growing cells at high risk. It is shown that forty five percent of future pregnancies fail after one abortion. Unfortunately, abortion increases the risk of having breast cancer by fifty percent. On one hand, it should be banned because it is considered as a sin by almost every religion there is. Another reason for it to be prohibited is because it can affect the carrier psychologically from depression to feeling guilty and it would affect her physically since she might lose a lot of blood. On the other hand, abortion might save the carrier’s life since she might be in danger during pregnancy or maybe since she didn’t plan to get pregnant at all because she might have been raped. The law in all countries should have a place for prohibiting abortion still accept it depending on the conditions. Mahatma Gandhi said “[I]t seems to me as clear as daylight that abortion would be a crime.” Never consider that it is okay for you to kill someone living inside of you. It is as if this person trusted you since day one. The baby trusted you to help him grow, to feed him, to protect him. It’s been attached to you since the first day of your pregnancy. Why would you break that attachment and kill that person who completes you for nine whole months and for the rest of your life as
