Planned Parenthood Federation of America is a nonprofit organization that establishes itself on health care, functioning as an outreach program as well as a provider of various medical services. The organization was developed upon the idea that women should have easy, obtainable access to information and care to ensure a healthy life. Planned Parenthood both promotes as well as establishes this motive as the program itself is “...based on respect for each individual 's right to make informed, independent decisions about health, sex, and family planning” (Charity Navigator). Planned Parenthood was founded on October 16, 1916, in Brooklyn, New York by Margaret Sanger and Ethel Bryne. Margaret Sanger was a strong advocate for women’s health rights,
Planned Parenthood is considered a public interest group, which are citizen activist groups that try to represent what they deem to be the interest of the public at large. The most recent controversy in the news today is the proposal by the Republican Party to defund Planned Parenthood for one year, which is expected to fail, which could shut down the government. President Obama and Senate Democrats are willing to shut down the federal government to ensure that tax dollars keep flowing to the Planned Parenthood organization, one of their biggest political allies and financial contributor of millions of dollars to the Democratic Presidential campaign and Party. The taking of life, the extermination of a sack of cells: abortions, no matter what you side on when you hear “Planned Parenthood,” you think abortions. There's a wide misconception that Planned Parenthood does mostly abortion services; and with the Pro choice/ Pro life people debating on defunding them or not this is why we shouldn't defund pph.
Planned Parenthood is a program that has been helping people pay for essential procedures without a large fee. It should continue to be covered by the government because of the immense help it has offered people for years. As well as the cost is being funded by Title X which is helping other healthcare organizations across the United States. Planned Parenthood, as well as a negative misconception, is that they only help with abortions. Planned Parenthood helps with anything like educating people about their health. Some of the other services Planned Parenthood offers are; Anemia Testing, Colon Cancer Screening, Diabetes Screening, Flu Vaccination, Rape Crisis Counseling Referrals, Routine Physical Exams, Smoking Cessation, Tetanus Vaccination,
Planned Parenthood is a National issue fighting for abortion access, giving women facing an unintended pregnancy must have access to safe, legal abortion services. Birth control and the fact all people deserve access to birth control and other preventive care, health care equality and the idea all people should have equal access to reproductive health care. For years politicians in Congress and statehouses across the country have attacked Planned Parenthood’s patients’ access to care. But I believe Planned Parenthood’s health centers provide high quality, affordable reproductive health care, to 2.4 million people across the country. When politicians talk about defunding Planned Parenthood, they really mean depriving patients who depend on public
This recent controversy has raised questions concerning the ethicality and legality of fetal tissue donations and research. It has also spurred debate over the government’s role in funding and authorizing clinics like Planned Parenthood, especially given the ideologically divise nature of the services it performs. As a result of this controversy, advocates and legislators are pushing for changes in federal policy, particularly changes that will defund or significantly reduce funding for Planned Parenthood. Such action could have significant effects on the conduction of scientific research, women’s rights, and women’s access to affordable and accessible health care nationwide. This paper examines the recent Planned Parenthood/fetal tissue research
“Trying to block women from getting access to contraception or defunding Planned Parenthood is completely nonsensical from a policy standpoint.” - Richard Carmona, american physician and nurse. This is exactly why Planned Parenthood should not be defunded. It offers many things from contraception, abortion, cancer screenings and preventions along with much more. Also, if they were to be defunded and abortions could no longer go on, many more unplanned pregnancies would happen and the cost of welfare would escalate a lot. Lastly, the number of abortions would go up if Planned Parenthood were to be defunded.

About 10,000 people assembled at the State House in Columbia, South Carolina, to join in "Stand with God, Pro-Family Rally," with Republican presidential candidates Ted Cruz and Rick Perry along with several US senators and pastors from across the state.
Back in December 2013, the Michigan Senate Minority Leader, Gretchen Whitmer, told her colleagues in Lansing a story that she did not want to tell. Years ago she was a victim of rape who felt enormous relief that she was not pregnant and forced to consider an unwanted pregnancy from a rapist.
Planned Parenthood v. Casey was a Supreme Court case that originated in the area of Southeastern Pennsylvania when one of these nationwide organizations, Planned Parenthood, decided to argue against the limitations put into place regarding abortion by Governor Robert P. Casey stating that they violated the laws established in Roe v. Wade (“Planned Parenthood of Southeastern Pennsylvania v. Casey”). The case began in the US District Court of Eastern Pennsylvania which declared all of the provisions to be unconstitutional; however, the State Court of Appeals reversed this decision claiming that all of the provisions except for spousal notification were constitutional. The case then arrived to the Supreme Court in 1991, and a final decision was
This topic is significant because this program provides health services to about 3 million people in the country and supports services for over one million people outside the United States. Planned Parenthood is the largest single provider of reproductive health services in the United States. It provided 3.6 million contraceptive services, 4.5 million HIV and other STD related services, about 1 million breast, cervical, and other cancer related services, over 1 million pregnancy tests and prenatal services, over 300,000abortion services, and over 100,000 other services, for a total of 10.6 million discrete services. The majority of federal funding comes from Medicaid. Abortion is what is driving the defunding discussion because recent videos
Numerous attempts have been made to define the term fetus. Scholars have attempted to use both biological and psychological aspects, some have gone further to outline characteristics and conditions that define a fetus (Garrett et al., 2011). Others have tied the developmental aspects related to viability, birth and conception. The United States Supreme Court definition provides an alternate decision. The case of Planned Parenthood vs. Casey and Roe vs. Wade best defines a fetus in terms of viability (Nocon, 2010). Another way of looking at it is by identifying legal and moral status calculated in constitutional frameworks. A baby is considered to acquire both legal and moral standings when they exist as a separate person. Numerous questions
It can be hard to find your political view. Sometimes it takes time and research on political issues in our country and around the world. There are two popular political views; conservative and liberal. The definition for a conservative; is holding to traditional attitudes and values and cautious about change or innovation, typically in relation to politics or religion. Liberal definition is; open to new behavior or opinions and willing to discard traditional values. My political view is in between conservative and liberal, moderate.
Abortion is a huge argument in the world today. “In 1973 the U.S. Supreme Court held in Roe V.Wade that the right of privacy protects women’s decisions to end unwanted pregnancy before the fetus develops.” By 2013, 70 restrictions to curb the practice of abortion from 22 states. (Funk & Wagnalls pg.1). In 2014, five health votes were examined by the House of Representatives regarding the matter of abortion. Everyone has a side to abortion from politics to democrats, people in religions to people with no religions, the people having the baby to someone who never had a baby before; everyone sees a different side to it. My believe on abortion is it should be Illegal because it kills innocent lives.
