For my self-trip I went to the Abraham Clark historical house. The Clark house is located in Roselle, NJ on 9th Avenue. Who is Abraham Clark? Well I didn’t know the answer to this question until today. Abraham Clark is New Jersey’s delegate for the Continental Congress. A delegate is an appointed person given the power to represent a specific group of people. In this case Mr. Clark would represent us (New Jersey Residents). Abraham Clark was born into the life of a farmer at what is now Elizabeth, New Jersey. He served as the clerk of the High Sheriff of Essex (now divided into Essex and Union) County. Elected to the Provincial Congress in 1775, he then represented New Jersey at the Second Continental Congress in 1776, where he signed the Declaration
Byron E. King Byron E. King was born on May 4, 1910 a white male who went to the Missouri Penitentiary for killing a taxi driver who goes by the name George Speer in St. Louis his motive was to rob the 68 year old of his money which was only $3.25 on January 17th, 1936 Speer told them that it was King when he was on his deathbed. He is one out of 40 people who was killed in the gas chamber he died with Hydrocyanic acid gas poison. The night that it happen before he was executed at 1:28 a.m., King smoked cigarettes and chatted with the prison staff, He was dead seven minutes later. He was 27 years old when he died on November 4th, 1938.
Charles Young was born in 1864 to Gabriel Young and Arminta Bruen in Kentucky Charles Young attended an all-white high school in Ripley, the only one there who was Afro-American, He graduated in 1880. He then taught school for several years in the new black high school that was opened in his town. In 1903, Young served as captain of a black company.

He did not attend the august gathering in Philadelphia though because of political problems in Maryland. He worried that his absence would encourage his political opponents to create mischief. Although he did not attend he would advocate for the Constitution in Maryland. Lewis served as Jefferson’s private secretary for about a year and a half when Jefferson asked Lewis to lead the expedition through the Louisiana Territory, Lewis gladly accepted and asked William Clark to serve as co-captain whom also accepted (Harper). Together Lewis and Clark gathered over thirty men and created The Corps of Discovery (Harper). After the expedition Jefferson made Lewis the governor of the Louisiana Territory (Harper). During his time as governor Lewis did many things, he oversaw the creation of the Territory of Arkansas, and he ordered for the creation of a road connecting St. Louis and New Madrid, Missouri (Harper).
Ulysses S. Grant was born on April 27, 1822 with the name Hiram Ulysses Grant but was known as U.S. Grant when he joined the military. He wasn’t the only Union General during the time of the Civil war, it wasn’t until 1864 when he became general at the age of 42 years old. After the long devastating war ended, Grant became the President of the United States of America. He was not politically experienced and he was also the youngest president at the time. Ulysses S. Grant was born in 1822 in Point Pleasant, Ohio.
I believe John Oakhurst is an outcast. He is not like the other people in the town of Poker Flat. He’s a caring person unlike other people in the town. He’s a gentlemen to The Dutchss. Poker flat is a sinful town full of improper people, but John Oakhurst is a good man.

William Clark was a very important person in American history. He was an explorer in the late 1700s, and early 1800s. He explored past the Mississippi, and everything he explored had just been bought, in the Louisiana purchase. This was a huge deal as nobody had explored past the Mississippi, so they had no idea what was there. That meant that they would have to map out the geography, since there were no maps of where they were.

Charles Pinckney, was born in Charleston, South Carolina in 1757. Pinckney’s father, whose name also happened to be Charles Pinckney, was a lawyer and a plantation owner. He died in 1782 leaving the farm to his oldest son. Pinckney was educated in Charleston and was an attorney just like his father during the year of 1779.
