I really liked Abraham Lincoln’s quote. He says in his quote, “Nearly all men can stand adversity, but if you want to test a man’s character, give him power.” This really stood out to me because I do agree with it a lot. If you give a man or any person power it shows how they really are. Some people might use it to their advantage and some people might use it to help other people who need it. It shows how humble someone can be or how selfish they are. This has happened to me before. I tend to try and motivate my team to do better and to play with all we have. Sometimes I take it too far and what I think is motivating them is actually just making them mad. Since I am the varsity goalkeeper I think that I have the power to do this,
Martin Luther King Jr’s “Letter from a Birmingham Jail." He uses logos to prove his point and add logic and reason to his point. We see this especially when he says “We know through painful experience that freedom is never voluntarily given by the oppressor; it must be demanded by the oppressed. ”(King, 1963, Letter from Birmingham Jail) This quote in particular really gives reason for people to fight for the injustices in America.

I agree with this quote because all mankind go through at least one form of adversity and misfortune. But judging by the attitude, personality, and character of the man after or during his adversity… how would the man change in his behavior if he got hold of power?. That is how you test a man's character. I personally dont recall of having any situation in my life like this
When power is given to a person, it can change them negatively by creating an selfish and ungrateful ego. Many people who obtain authority and dominance become pompous and their superiority begins to feed their self-esteem. The lesson of power changing people is proven throughout history and is displayed in many novels and movies where the majority of citizens see power as money, and money as success. Having the mindset that being powerful leads to success causes them to under appreciate their lives and not see the goals they’ve accomplished as successes.
Everyone, at one point in their lives has wanted power more than anything. Those who do get it have to make the decision whether they want to use it for good or evil. Power can turn a person into something they never dreamed they would become because it starts to take over their lives and people do not know what to do with so much power. There are many examples of power in the play Macbeth and every person that got it used it in very different ways. This caused many changes in people from turning from good to evil or evil to good.
In my opinion, the “Commencement Address” by John F. Kennedy is the most powerful message about war (or peace). This selection is the most powerful message because he is expressing how peace is possible, but it’s mankind that is keeping us from truly having it. What is causing war is what man created. He is also expressing how genuine peace must be the result of many nations, through many actions. And how peace should be a process meeting the challenge of each new generation.
I think this was a great inspirational speech and I think of it when I am facing difficult odds. I think of the two options of my situation, I can fight for the inches I need to survive and thrive, or I can crumble. There were many individual thoughts that can be taken from this speech and applied to everyday living and striving. When faced with difficult situations, when experiencing having things taken from you and losing other things, remembering this speech inspires to fight to make it inch by inch, putting all the inches together and winning and making
