Manuscript Title: Accidental Poet Written By: Patrick Lin Feng Accidental Poet The story of us, It depicts not the present, Nor the future, But simply the past. We were never meant to be, That I was too blinded to see. Because I see you as perfection, And one day the subject of my affections. Ignored are all the warnings about you, In misadventure, you I 've decided to pursue, The one I 'm most willing to give my heart to, A mistake I wished I knew. You, yes you. You live in fear of the words of others, But never once have you considered, The repercussions of your own. You, yes you. Thank you for this hurt, For the mindless comparisons, For the thoughtless words, And for telling me what I should be. Because when you let me go, My …show more content…
How many more two years am I left ahead, Before the right one 's path and mine can finally embed? I 'm losing faith, In 'good-things-come-to-those-who-wait '. For if such saying is true, In this journey of sorrow I need not partake. I 'm done with good. I 'm done with pleasantries. For a genuine heart like mine, It doesn 't belong in 21st Century. Dead End You 're the reason I took steps backwards, Indulging in moments that have passed, Reliving fond memories of us, The ones I 'm incapable to classify as the past. You 're the reason I took a right turn, Even when I could do otherwise, A choice to have a chance at happiness, That only led to our tragic demise. You 're the reason I took a left turn, In the verge of losing the fight, The one where I could win and stay in your heart, Or at risk of having to part. You 're the reason I 'm moving forward, Leaving the past behind, Only to have you back again, Allowing the vicious cycle to begin. In all the paths I 've taken, They led me to you. Maybe you 're my dead end, For I loved you then, And I still do. Healing Recipe This is but a remedy, To be taken seriously, For the heart to heal properly, And sorrows to go
In any given speech, or piece of literature for that matter, there is a certain amount of pathos, logos, and ethos used by the author, a technique that people like to call the “Rhetorical Triangle”. In the thought provoking speech: “Tide of Voices: Why Poetry Matters Now”, the speaker spectacularly uses these tactics to prove the validity, importance, and beauty of poetry. Mark Doty, the author, is a recognized American poet, who was the winner of the National Book Award for Poetry in 2008. This accomplishment on its own establishes ethos, a form of trust and credibility. Obviously, a poet defending poetry is as expected as a mathematician defending mathematics, but still, the reliability and status is there.
1.) I would argue that the speakers of the “The Chimney Sweeper” poems are fairly ambiguous, but their levels of experience and innocence are quite apparent. Also, I think think that the age of the narrators (generally) are clear. For example, I think the poem’s narrator in “Songs of Innocence” is a child.
The 1970s were a rough year for African-Americans, still fighting for social and political rights in the United States. Consequently, women still did not receive equal rights. However, in 1972, “Congress approved the Equal Rights Amendment (ERA) to the Constitution, which reads: ‘Equality of rights under the law shall not be denied or abridged by the United States or by any state on account of sex’ (History.com Staff).” Out of the thirty-eight necessary states only twenty-two ratified it right away, it was relieving for the moment because the feminist advocates had been trying to be ratified since 1923. The First African-American woman elected into Congress was Shirley Chisholm.
Reflection: These poems belongs to a topic which is quite devastating in most ways. This thing causes lots of people to die,to end their pain called life. This traumizing event is called sucicide. Suciside is a very hard thing for an adult to go through but imagine a child because one in every one hundred thousand kids think of sucicide or actually does it but when you are a teenager the risk goes up by quite a bit.
Julia Alvarez, in her poem “’Poetry Makes Nothing Happen’?”, writes that poems do play a role in people’s lives. She supports her idea by using relateable examples of how poems might change someone’s life. Her first example is simple, poetry can entertain someone on long drives. This does not only aply to long dirves however, Alvarez uses this to show that poetry does not have to have a big influence on someone’s life, instead it can affect a person in the smallest of ways, such as entertainment. The second example describes poetry comforting someone after the loss of a loved one.
In “The Trouble with Poetry” the speaker touches on the same idea of how poetry is so forced, and how it has lost its meaning as an expression and has become more of an addiction among
Except, to my surprise, that competitor, that challenger has never been myself. ”I need someone to come up and read their poem,” Mrs. Dalton, the English teacher, said over the 20- something students in the 1A class at Lone Star High School. We were working on our final project in class. Up to this point, I had managed to make good grades and only participate in small group activities. The students fell silent.
A journey, at times, can seem endless. Throughout, a person can face an immense amount of hardships. This is the sole embodiment of both, “A Worn Path” and “Because I Could not Stop for Death.” The characters in both writings are going on a journey, a journey in which neither asked for. As both writings progress it begins to seem that this will be both their final journeys.
The poem that everyone can relate to in some way is “The Road Not Taken” by Robert Frost. This poem has many hidden meanings to it and make it easily relateable for others. The song that related best to the poem is the song “My Way” by Frank Sinatra. Everyone can relate to both “My Way” and “The Road Not Taken” there are a lot of lines and lyrics that make others wonder what would of happened in their lives if they had traveled down a different road. Many times there are different roads that have the opportunity to be traveled down but never do but what would happen if they did get traveled down.
I didn’t think she would leave us so soon, but you know what they say life doesn’t always go as planned. I never got the chance to say goodbye, or tell her I loved her very much and that I was grateful for all that she had done for me, I never got to tell her what a inspiration she was to me, and I never got to hug one last time. It wasn’t far, I hated that I wasn’t there for her and I couldn’t do anything about it. I guess when people say that life isn’t far, they really mean
And that’s why I chose to unlove someone whom I used to love so much for myself to be free of the toxicity of what myself have gotten to. And of thinking that letting go is the hardest decision that I will make. I came to a realization that letting him go is not the end, letting him go is the beginning of the new chapter of my life,
