Acesulfame-potassium
Chemistry of Acesulfame-potassium
Acesulfame-potassium also known as acesulfame K or Ace K. The molecular mass of it is 202.245 g/mol. Its chemical name is Potassium 6-methyl-4-oxo-4H-1,2,3-oxathiazin-3-ide 2,2-dioxide. [1] It also have a pH value of 6.5-7.5, having a melting point of 229-232 °C and it is soluble in water. Ace K is a white odorless, free flowing crystalline powder. The process of making acesulfame-potassium involves transformation of acetoacetic acid, an organic intermediate. [1] Then, it is combine with others natural occurring mineral such as potassium. The Acesulfame-potassium has a similar chemical structure to saccharin. Acesulfame- potassium is 200times sweeter than sugar, it has been use in countless

The general population exposed to the acesulfame potassium through ingestion of contaminated drinking water as well as ingestion of consumer product which contain this material. [3] The U.S. Food and Drug Administration has estimated the cumulative estimated daily intake of acesulfame potassium is 313mg per day. [4]
Health Effects of Acute / Single Exposure
Swallowed
Even swallowed acesulfame potassium does not have thought to produce harmful effects to the individual, but it might damage the pre-existing organ which included kidney and liver. It is also be considered an unlikely route of entry in commercial or industrial environments. The chances after swallowing acute potassium is significantly low, as vomiting will usually occurs and the renal excretion will increase in speed. Besides, the acute potassium in acesulfame potassium will decrease the blood pressure, cause the pulse which is slow and weak, heart rhythm irregularities and heart block as well.
The wat to reduce the discomfort is drink plenty of water after misconsumption of ace K.

The methylene chloride is used widely in industries, but is not permitted in food industry. As the long association of methylene chloride can causes headache, liver complication and even renal disease.
Those who suffering diabetes will tend to consume the artificial sweeteners such as Ace K but they refrain to consume sugar. [6] However, the acesulfame potassium can stimulate the secretion of insulin and even can cause hypoglycemia (low blood sugar) happen. The body will secrete more insulin than required amount, the intense desire of having sweet food will increases. [7] This will causes the individual lose their appetite.
Besides, consuming acesulfame potassium in long term will apparently produces tumors in breast, lung and even thymus gland. There are also some forms of leukemia and chronic respiratory disease in rodent
Alka-Seltzer is a medical drug that works as a pain reliever and an antacid. The pain reliever used is aspirin and the antacid used is baking soda. When sodium bicarbonate dissolves in water it splits apart into sodium and bicarbonate ions. The bicarbonates reacts with hydrogen ions from citric acid to form carbon dioxide gas and water. This is how the bubbles are made.
In our project we mixed different sizes of tablets and water and see if there is a reaction. The tablets are solids and the water is a liquid we are trying to see what happens when they collide. When Alka-Seltzer have many compounds in them. Alka-Seltzer is a medicine that is used to treat heartburn. It is made by many ingredients, which are bicarbonate, aspirin and citric acid.
Structural Features Acetaminophen is a molecule that is made of twenty atoms; its bonds consist of fourteen single bonds and four double bonds. Acetaminophen is also composed of clusters atoms with groups with names. First of all, part of an acetaminophen atom is a benzene ring. A benzene ring is a ring of six carbon atoms that are connected to each other by three double bonds and three single bonds and unusually all the bond are the same size. In addition, to make sure all the electrons in the outer valence are used the there are hydrogen atoms bonded to stabilize the carbon atoms.
Citric acid, aspirin and sodium hydrogen carbonate are the main constituents of alka seltzer. Its main role is to reduce headaches, period pains, migraines, muscular pains and symptoms of colds and flues, as well has curing problems related with an upset stomach. Aspirin works to reduce pain and swellings; it is an anti- inflammatory drug and belongs to a group of drugs called NSAIDs as it does not contain steroids. The enzyme cyclo-oxygenase which speeds up the production of prostaglandins is blocked by aspirin.
From the safety data sheet, the main health hazard of potassium carbonate is to cause serious eye and skin irritation (Armand 2015). To control the hazard of the potassium carbonate, protective gloves and eye glasses are required, also dust masks should be worn to prevent breathing or swallowing dusts when handling the powder form. 6.2.2 Electrical hazard Electrical equipment such as generator and turbines pose the risk of electrical fire, the most common cause of this being leakage of lubricant oil. (F.E. global) The leaking lube oil is ignited by the hot surface of the steam or gas turbine and causes fire.
The short-term effects of this drug include dizziness, weakness, headache, breathlessness, chest constriction, nausea, and vomiting. Diesel fuel, also listed as hazardous, may cause redness, itching, burning, severe skin damage and cancer if within contact of skin. Lead, which is harmful to children and Hydrogen fluoride, whose fumes are highly poisonous, pose problems as well. Sulfuric acid, which is corrosive to all body tissues, may cause lung damage and loss of vision. Many more hazardous chemicals are used in hydraulic fracturing.
Benefit-risk of epidural analgesia - post-operative period Epidural analgesia is also widely used during the post-operative period and has been shown to be superior to systemic opioid analgesia for the control of postoperative pain (23). Other beneficial or harmful side effects of TEA during the postoperative period were investigated in a systematic review and meta-analysis including 125 trials, with a total of 9044 patients, analyzing various outcomes (24). In the group receiving TEA vs. systemic opioids the major outcome was a reduced mortality rate (2-3.1% in the epidural group vs. 3.2-4.9% in the control group (OR >0.60)). The main adverse effects of TEA to be mentioned are pruritus, urinary retention, motor blockade and hypotension.
The link between saccharin and kidney failure in humans has also been repeatedly established, as well as the tendency of saccharin to cause bladder cancers. Infants who are fed saccharin develop muscular disorders, alongside irritability, and
According to the NIH effects of a flaxseed overdose have been researched in animal studies and symptoms may include shortness of breath, rapid breathing, weakness and trouble walking. A flaxseed overdose may also cause seizures or paralysis. 2. How much is too much? The right dosage depends on the individual and their current health condition.
The unknowns were all basic except for the acetylsalicylic acid which was an acid and pseudoephedrine hydrochloride which was a neutral pH when tested. We tested our unknowns and found that both had a basic pH when tested. When we tested the ingredients for acetone solubility we found that most of the ingredients were acetone soluble except for acetaminophen, cornstarch, and sugar. For unknown A we
Amnesic Shellfish Poisoning Amnesic shellfish poisoning is a rare type of food poisoning. You get it from eating seafood contaminated with a toxin (domoic acid). This toxin is produced by a saltwater form of algae and is often eaten by shellfish, such as clams, oysters, and mussels. Sometimes crabs that feed on these shellfish can also become toxic.
The sodium citrate then dissociates in aqueous solution to form citrate ions that are able to form a buffer solution. This allows the Alka Seltzer to act as an antacid by neutralising the excess acid in the stomach, as H+ is used to form citric acid. The excess HCO3- ions in the aqueous mixture also act as a buffer which helps to reduce the acidity, further functioning as an antacid. (Shakhashiri B, 1989.) The aspirin in Alka Seltzer acts as an analgesic and also as an anti-inflammatory drug.
The long-term effects of the drug are; the drug being toxic to the kidneys and cause renal failure to the body. The short-term effects of Flakka are; Euphoric sensations, Rapid heart rate and palpitations, Increase in blood pressure, and alertness. A very common short-term effect is aggressive behavior which causes one to lose their mind and that can cause physical or emotional harm to others. These side effects can last a few 3-4 hours or can liger to several days. It is often taken while the user is already high on “flakka”—a practice known as snacking—or cut with other drugs such as heroin, cocaine or marijuana, often leading to additional serious health
ADME 1. The most common route of exposure to Arsenic: The primary routes of arsenic exposure are ingestion (about 80%) (Vahter, 2002) and inhalation. Ingestion most commonly occurs through consumption of food and water containing arsenic.
These include heart disease, diabetes, obesity, metabolic syndrome, tooth decay, muscle and joint pain, loss of bone strength and less sugar level to control in the body and gout. Consuming sugary beverages can also lead to tooth decay, muscle and joint pain, loss of bone strength and less sugar level to control in the
