I believe that many behavioral problems can often be handled through discussing the student’s behavior and giving them a second chance. The discipline hierarchy allows the students to self correct their behavior before incurring a harsher form of punishment. Overall, although I believe that having clear expectations and behavioral procedures are essential for good classroom management, I also believe that one must still remember what an effective teacher looks like. Thus, when it comes to the area of classroom management, it is still vital that the teacher strives to maintain positive relationships with the students. Effective classroom management is not simply about punishing the student and moving on.

This goes beyond providing a wide range of manipulatives for students to choose from (which is beneficial) but tasks teachers with identifying what types of manipulatives lend themselves well to specific concepts, or the idea that tasks and tools go hand in hand. In the future this knowledge will inform my decisions about how to best approach new concepts and what I can do to help set my students up for success. As a teacher, having a variety of manipulatives at your disposal gives you the ability to give individual students the type of support they need to understand ideas and achieve goals; what works for one student might not work for another but having multiple options for them to choose from and connect with makes math concepts much more

Teachers can give tests to their students to know how they are comprehending the material being taught. It is important to teach students about the classroom rules, schools rules, daily routines, learn to practice new skills in the classroom and out of the classroom, and now their school schedule and outside of school schedule. You want to be patient with them and be consistent and have a trusting relationship with them because, if they are suffering depression, anger issues, then they think think that the teacher is gonna failed them. It is best to have a teacher tutor them for whatever is their weakness that needs to be worked on for the children. They want to help them as the best that they possibly can to help them pass, but we want them to know that we care about who you are and we just want to help you to learn something before you move on to the next grade and for the future. One most important tip is for teachers should educate themselves and learn as much as they can about intellectual disabilities. There are some techniques and strategies that teachers can also use to support children educationally. First teachers must recognize that they can make a difference in student’ lives by finding out what their strengths and interests are, focus on them, and create opportunities for success. Teachers must also be concrete as possible by demonstrating what they mean rather than giving directions verbally and tasks that are longer in steps should be broken down into smaller steps and provide assistance when necessary. As it relates to student skills, teachers should teach life skills such as social skills and occupational awareness and exploration by involving students in group or club activities.

In an society where people focus on results society tends to loss track in the middle. This can be applied to schooling because students today focus on passing the test instead of understanding the meaning behind the things they learned. There are many ways to help students to look at the deeper meaning of topics they learned. However, personally I believe the way to get them to understand these topics are to make them active and engaged learners. In my eyes a person who is a go learner is open minded to learning new facts and listens to opinions that may conflict their own.

In the Educational Leadership article entitle “The Boss of My Brain”, authors Donna Wilson and Marcus Conyers examines the explicit instruction in metacognition. Researchers stated that “explicit instruction in metacognition puts students in charge of their learning.” It was also stated that “meta-cognition supports learning by enabling us to actively think about which cognitive strategies can help achieve learning, how we should apply those strategies, how we can review our progress, and whether we need to adjust our thinking.” I believe this a unique teaching tool for teachers to implement with their students. With the use of metacognition, students whether they are struggling learners or gifted can learn how to use a variety of cognitive strategies to help improve their learning.

Implications of Empowering Teachers as Leaders Teachers have a unique perspective regarding improvement of the educational system. They can be a vital part of reform efforts when encouraged to step into the leadership role, as their sole focus is student learning (Sinha, et al., 2012). Teacher leaders can use the central focus of student learning and mold reforms from the inside out, which can have major implications in the field of education.
