Young and extremely talented, Adam O’Farrill is a modern jazz trumpeter from Brooklyn, NY, who comes from a lineage of marvelous musicians. His father, the widely known Cuban pianist, composer, and bandleader Arturo O’Farrill, has all the reasons to be proud of a son who, at the age of 21, has collaborated with Rudresh Mahanthappa, Vijay Iyer, Ambrose Akinmusire, Joe Lovano, and more recently Stephan Crump’s Rhombal.
For this recording, Adam had the company of his brother Zack on drums, Chad Lefkowitz-Brown on tenor saxophone, and Walter Stinson on bass.
Outlined for quartet, “Stranger Days was pretty much influenced by film and theater. Each tune attempts to paint a scene whose variable natures are somehow connected.

The effective improvisations succeed one another with color and feeling.
Highlighting Stinson 's basswork and Zack 's dry drumming, “Survival Instincts” appears as an awkwardly disconcerting dance that gets epic contours. It opposes to the simplicity of movements revealed in Stinson’s “Why She Loves”.
“Alligator Got the Blues” is another high point, showcasing a leisurely-paced introductory section before exploring alternative beats with a strong foundation in rock music. The mood is animated and the horns’ feast is no less vibrating.
Melodic repetition seems to have a purpose in “Forget Everything You’ve Learned at School”, contrasting with “Building the Metamorphosen Bridge”, which deals with a curious rhythmic complexity as it privileges interaction. “The Cows and Their Farm Walt”, stepping on a scenic ground, precedes the album 's last tune, “Lower Brooklyn Botanical Union”, a contrafact of Billy Strayhorn’s “UMMG” that mixes bop and post-bop

I felt like I had temporarily left the practice room and traveled to another realm. I can never remember what happens after I cross over, and the only real glimpse I get of that world is at the threshold. As I close my eyes and let the groove I am playing possess me, I swear that I can hear voices. No, not voices -- music. Gliding across Girl from Ipanema, the airy sound of Stan Getz tickles my ears.
MUS120 Comparative Essay: Week Two Comparative Essay From a distance, it is easy to say that Choo Choo Ch’ Boogie by Louis Jordan and Hoochie Coochie Man by Muddy Waters are both songs that belong to the blues genre. Yet, when placed under the microscope and compared next to one another, the division between the blues and jump blues becomes very clear. A choice of differing instruments and vocal styling allow for a change of ambience between the two pieces, along with a drastic change in tempo which sets the energy and results in a noticeable variance in the mood. Choo Choo Ch’ Boogie is a high energy and up beat variation of jump blues, whilst Hoochie Coochie Man maintains a slower and solemn tone, with a true blues style acoustic range.
The lead singer talks about how he tries to satisfy and be their for his significant other, but that doesn 't stop them from being disrespectful and rude. The beat of this song helps to show readers the frustration Pattyn had toward her father. The harsh tempo helps demonstrate how rebellious Pattyn is feeling and how fed up she is with being ignored and abused. When Pattyn is at her place of residence, she feels very alone unless she talks to her sister Jackie.

I picked to write about Alvin Ailey because I feel like this is the decade and generation that his legacy died in because when it comes to dance no one thinks of Ailey as the founding father his dancing is a lost art.. Alvin Ailey was not born with his name in lights he had a rough beginning. Born in Rogers, Texas on January 5th 1931 as Alvin Ailey Jr.
The Murdaugh family murders have to be one of the most intriguing and interesting stories that has happened in South Carolina maybe ever. The Murdaugh family, what many looked at as southern royalty due to their wealthy past, came crumbling down when father Alex Murdaugh killed his son Paul and wife Maggie. Firstly, what seems to be the start of the downfall was when oldest son Paul, was involved in a fatal boat crash accident. Paul was “charged in 2019 with drunkenly crashing a boat in an accident that killed one of his passengers, 19-year-old Mallory Beach, and injured several others”.
In life, there are few things as organic as jazz music. With its raw sound and scrappy roots, one cannot help but feel life head-on whilst witnessing players produce such a sound right before their eyes. Its origins and arch are a product of the United States’ national culture and identity. Jazz exists not only as a deeply rooted form of art but as a cultural marker, particularly during its commercial peak in the first half of the 20th century. Its impact transcends borders, and it is one of the most beloved musical genres worldwide.
This Double Trio project, put together by the virtuous Boston-born, New York-based percussionist Tomas Fujiwara, fits in the contemporary jazz panorama with a laudable degree of excellence. The band, two mirrors of the same nature, comprises a pair of horns, masterfully handled by Ralph Alessi and Taylor Ho Bynum, a pair of hooky guitars, whose barbed sounds are fruit of the imagination of Mary Halvorson and Brandon Seabrook, and two drums, provocatively banged by Gerald Cleaver and the bandleader himself. “Triple Double” features ten tracks that morph from catchy indie rock to sparkling avant-garde jazz and vice-versa. One can admire the group’s suppleness right in the opening track. The ternary “Diving For Quarters” primarily strikes with a double six-string roam.
An example of Seeger 's music goes with this book. Melodies incorporate “If Had a Hammer, " with its call to go up against bad form; "Where Have all the Flowers Gone?" and its melodious speak to stop the cycle of war; and "We Shall Overcome, " the standard song of the battle for flexibility. Lavishly looked into and freshly composed, Allan Winkler gives a holding record of the force of Pete Seeger 's melodies in advancing a superior world for all
The final poem of significance is Jazzonia, in which Hughes experiments with literary form to transform the act of listening to jazz into an ahistorical and biblical act. Neglecting form, it is easy to interpret the poem shallowly as a simple depiction of a night-out in a cabaret with jazz whipping people into a jovial frenzy of singing and dancing. But, the poem possesses more depth, when you immerse yourself in the literary form. The first aspect of form to interrogate is the couplet Hughes thrice repeats: “Oh, silver tree!/Oh, shining rivers of the soul!” Here, we see the first transformation.
