Adopting is a process in which a person or a couple become the new parents of a child. In fact, all the rights and responsibilities of the child are transferred to the adopters. Adoption isn’t the only way to take responsibility of a child, there’s also guardianship (when someone takes custody of a child which is ordered by the court). But adoption is different from guardianship because adoption is meant to be permanent and that’s why it requires legal or religious recognition (depending on the country or the state).
As we can see, adoption seems like a noble thing to do especially that it helps a child in need of a family. But it’s no easy task and it comes with several problems both on the adopter and on the adoptee.
The most common problems on the adopted child are emotional, but they can also be psychological and social. On the other hand, the problems on the adopters can be legal, financial, social…
This essay is to show that adoption is not something easy to do and comes with a lot of problems that should be taken care of because it’s becoming more and more common (in 2008, 135000 children were adopted in the USA). But to every problem it’s solution and adoption problems are no exceptions and have solutions too.
